CG We had and to a degree still have the same problem. That is why I used to sign all my post "Unity and good shooting". We have started to relax a bit but that can lead to a false feeling of security and Shucky and HGC are still alive and waiting for a chance. Karl

FC Hello FC. I remove them when I clean the pistol so that is not a problem. The wood is a very nice oak and the result was well worth the effort. Karl

I Hate Lying..misleading Enlistment Adds On Tv
karlunity replied to karlunity's topic in Chewing the Cud
Fellas you are both right. Yet, it does more harm than good in the long run. Parents KNOW that they and their children are being conned and resent it. Enlistees soon learn to hate the service which DID lie to them and do as little as they can and leave as soon as possible. Plus it just is not right. Karl -
I know that recruiting Sgts have been at it since Troy but I really hate lying misleading enlistment adds. We are at war and it is right and just that we should be so. If you enlist during a time of war, you may well go to battle and there you may kill or get killed or wounded. The Service, any Branch of it , is NOT a happy day at the local college strolling around the campus. Why in the hell do the Adds try and present it as such? This is most dishonorable. Karl

Well, Hollis Wayne Fincher is a man of principle. It would appear that he set this up to bring the fed to court and force it to define its perceived limits of the Second Amendment. karl

"Any particular reason you posted this in the "Fightin' Words" forum? " Nope. I shall move it to the proper place. karl

'What's your read on the Iraq time frame for withdrawal/stay?' I would think that his party will force a decision between June and Nov of next year. The GOP wants the House and Senate back. If the Dem's get the White-house and if history is any guide, barring an another 9/11, they will. The GOP HAS to hold the Senate at the least. One way or another that issue IS going to be settled by Nov. at the latest. I think the gloves are going to come off. Karl

The part of the speech that I found of most interest is the fact the we are sending another carrier battle group to the area. Now carrier battle groups are not much good in urban combat but they can sure blow the hell out of Iran or Syria and the rag heads know this. If President Bush finds that the maggots in Iran or Syria are suppling weapons to the foe all it takes is one phone call and the Ayatollahs and Syrians are history nor could the Dem's make political heat for him as doing so would annoy the Israeli lobby, which needs the job done and cost the Dem's their support and vote. Like the good Marine I was, I would watch what happens at sea. Karl

We have to give the President a chance to see it through and I think that the county, not the dam libs who are already bitching, will give him till Summer. But if he cannot pull it off by then, the doves will rule the roost. Karl

I know how you feel. I hate to sell my tools or toys. But I am glad to read that you are taking up smithing. You and TYRVR are among the very few I would think of sending "Boris" to if he needed a new barrel. Take care Karl

Dr. Hess. Sir, I did not question your word, if that was the impression my post gave to you, I stand corrected. I have a visceral dislike for Bill and his ilk but that shocked even me. The interesting thing is that Mr. Bush has the power to repeal a former President's order, so I am wondering why he did not. I seem to see the House of Saud in the shadows. Karl

I gotta just gotta have one!!!!! Talk about "one shot ..one kill" !!!!! Wonder if I could make a pistol out of it????????? karl

Dr. Hess. Sir, I have little love for Bill but if that is true, it is the blackest treason. What could his reason be? Does he want more money or power that badly? Perhaps our own oil barons have a hand in it as well? Cheap oil does = less profits? History has made strange bedfellows before. "If those diaperheads realized their whole world as they know it was about to crash and they have to figure out how to make food out of sand and oil,I think we would have them fighting over who's got the cheapest oil instead of who can run their country and reap the riches off Americas oil money." Jerry. Sir. That is just plain brilliant. Karl

OK. so that tells me that the M-16 and the SAW will NOT go through a brick wall. But an AK-47 will. Since, as I underatand that the walls in the mideast are made of thick hard mud brick this is not good. So the foe has the advantage in infantry weapons in city fighting. So what are we going to do about it? Karl

Well, perhaps we cannot catch Benny or prevent IEDs in Baghdad. But we can sure bust a few trouble making good ole boys . I feel safer already. Secure Karl

Nope. We are still here. karl

Fellas. The wood on my Remington 58 appears to be oak and the finish it came with is only passable so I decided to refinish it. Pistol grips are a bit more tricky that rifle stocks to refinish. The edges of the grips have to fix exactly into the frame so you should not use sandpaper. I used only steel wool one coarse and a finishing oooo fine wool. I hand buff with 3M fine" plastic steel wool to add a luster between coats. It takes about 90 minutes to remove the old finish. I apply 10 coats of "Tru-oil" let dry and buff between coats, and let the last coat dry for 24 hours. You finish up with ten coats of wax. It takes a lot of time but it sure looks nice. Karl
