Screw Drivers To Fit A Remington New Model Army 1858.
karlunity replied to karlunity's topic in Chewing the Cud
Thanks TYRVR. Take care. Karl -
Any one know where to find screwdrivers to fit a Remington New Model Army 1858? Most of mine won't fit and the ones that might fit are only "kinda sorta". I don't want to strip the screw heads so I need to find proper screw drivers. Karl

Most of Iran is Shiite as is most of Iraq and they want us gone. The Saudis are Sunni and I would not be surprised to find them giving aid to the Sunnis of Iraq. They have hated each other since 600 A.D. So what we have is a power struggle between two branches of Islam and an Arab vs. Persian conflict and they have hated each other since 500 B.C. Than, of course, there is Saddam and his supporters, I am sure that he is still pulling strings, rather like a mob boss giving orders from the pen, we should have dropped a frag on his head. I hope we win, but with the PC types and Liberals now in Congress, I fear to turn on the TV and see helicopters on the roof... This is only one battle in a long war. Karl

This is no accident. It is part of a world wide plan by Commies to destroy the core values of America and enslave us all. I am not kidding one little bit. Karl

Went To The Range With Ye Ole Cap And Ball Pistol
karlunity replied to karlunity's topic in Chewing the Cud
Thanks fellas. I went out and got a bag of pads to use, in place of the Crisco and a nice powder flask by "Pedersoli". It has a 28 grain tube and the Hippy is kind enough to go back to the store tomorrow and get me a 15-17 grain tube to go with it so I can use one flask with both BP pistols, Take care Karl -

FC. I went with the Pietta as a first Cap and Ball, as the price was less and I have read a bad report on the Uberti. If I get more, I will give them a try. Fellas Thanks I will get some pads at the BP store tomorrow. You know, it is a wonder that these early revolvers found favor with the infantry in the Civil War. I could see Calvary using them in a mêlée, but over a long infantry battle with all the dirt and mud , how did they clean them? Some sites say the that only way to clean them is take them completly apart and pour on hot water on them or soak them with boiling water. Hot water was dam hard to find in Nam 100 years later. How Lee or Grant's guys found it after every battle is byond me. Karl -

Man..the purists are gonna hate me. But, here goes.. Any one know if they make "Houge" type rubber grips for an 1858 New Army ? Sinner Karl -
I went to the range with the Remington New Model Army 1858. First the good parts: It has to be the most powerful handgun I have ever fired. It put holes in the target the size of grapes!!!! The 1858 is as accurate as my other pistols. It took no longer to clean than my other revolvers. Now the bad parts: Having to cover the chambers with Crisco or bore butter is a real pain. The grips tend to become slippery. On the whole, I am glad that I got the pistol, but I don't think I am going to start a "collection". Karl

Jim. The Hippy said to have your friend's family double check the x-rays. It seems she came across a report of someone being misdiagnosed as having bone cancer when the x-ray was mis-read. take care Karl

Jim, you are a good man. I agree. As long as the Hippy is ok, nothing bothers me. karl

Hello fritz. "Is your's blue or nickel? Mine is nickel, and I like the cylinder removal better than the Colt 1860." fritz. Mine is blue. I think that you are right about the cylinder. I have cleaned mine and lubed it, the nipples were hard to remove. I am glad that I removed and lubed them before I went shooting as I think that it would have been a job to remove dirty ones. I have been reading up on how to smooth the trigger and hammer, but I am going to shoot it BEFORE I try and "fix" it. Gee.. it only took 57 years for me to grow a brain. : ) Karl

Fellas. I was shooting the "boot pistol" with real BP. It has no sights but by laying the trigger finger along the side using it as a pointer, the old point of aim point of impact, and using the third finger as a "trigger finger" I was in the black at 25 meters and could see dust at 50 when I over shot. Any one know what the range or Muzzle energy on one of these smooth bore muzzle loaders is? Karl

Well, the 51 navy had problems. The hammer would not consistently engage the sear, it would come half way back, about three out of 6 shoots, and stop. You would have to lower the hammer and try again this, of course, played heck with the firing sequence. I returned it for a refund, but after a few days, called in and asked to pay the difference and make it an exchange instead for a Rem new Army. I figured that it would take a week or two, but the lady said 3 to 6 days. When it did not show up, I called and asked for a "tracking" number and was told that they had not received it. That was quickly cleared up, but I was told that as it was a gun, someone from the "gun dept" had to check it, please call back on Friday. I did, and was told that no word had come back and would I please call back on Tuesday. Everyone there was very nice and a week or two is not a long time for mail order, but I was sorta hoping for" the 3 to 6 days." I will let you know how it comes out. Thanks fellas, that makes me feel better. I guess, I just gotta grow up learn patience. : ) Karl

$ 400 to replace a hard drive!!!!! A HD for a desk top runs about $ 100 for a 200 gig( a very big HD) and takes ten minutes to put in. As for service, that is just tightening cables and blowing out the dust with a can of air. Most of the time, a HD will freeze if it is clogged, or has a virus. I use these to keep the old box running. They are free. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/ http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html You are not alone. A guy came to fix my roof, 20 mins and some tar...$ 200. I gotta learn to fix roofs. take care Karl

Thanks AzRednek. Cabela's said "100 % guarantee refund or exchange" on their site. So I will give them till the middle of next week, they said, their "gun-dept" had to check it should be done by then. Take care Karl

Anyone know how long it takes Cabela's to make an exchange? I know these things usually take some time, but I want my new toy!!! Mature Karl

The replacement battery was bad!!!!! : ) I acquired a new battery and this time, tested in on the meter. All is well. Thanks Sir. Karl

Fellas. What do you think? The clock on the computer was slowing down so I changed the battery. After that I get "CMOS checksum error and the CMOS setting default. (I have my computer hooked to a power station which I shut down at night) I checked the battery and set the CMOS to "default" but I keep getting that error . any Ideas? Karl
