karlunity
I spent about the last 9 hours, today and yesterday, trimming, reforming and polishing brass. : ) And I still have almost a whole coffee can to go. ( thanks gents) If I take up pistol shooting, I gotta get a progressive press. With Bolt act long range rifles, you need a single station as every thing, charge, case, bullet, primer has to be exact. But with a pistol?? Plus once I start banging away, I can use up a whole box of pistol ammo in 10 minutes.. Now with rifle, bolt gun, You shoot ...look...take notes..chect the wind etc and shoot. take ya two hours to fire 25 rounds. This could get interesting. karl
Dr.Hess
Get a Dillon. I've churned out 223 with my RL550B that shoots sub MOA from a 14" Contender.
karlunity
Not worth it....yet. karl
AzRednek
You might also consider the Hornady Lock N Load for an economical progressive press that actually works reliably. I'm very fond of mine and have loaded thousands of pistol rds with it. IMHO don't get fooled by Lee's advertising. Unless you're very mechanically inclined and have a very patient personality, avoid the Lee Loadmaster. Especially with in an ear shot of women, children or in Karl's case a cat that is frightened by loud swearing. Lee's turret press is a handy device and will speed things a little but Lee's progressive tools especially the Crudmaster requires constant tinkering. I like and use many of Lee's tools. I really like their Factory Crimp Dies. Dillon is by far the best but also the most expensive, to much for a tightwad like me. I also wont buy from Dillon for personal reasons. karlunity
The Hippy was asking "if the local range (indoor) won't allow reloads, and the outdoor one is a two hour round trip, and you can get bullets at at walmart for $ 22 and they are all ready together, and it is going to cost $20 just for the bullets and 5 for the other little round things? (primers) and you have to spend hours putting them together, that seems a waste. Sometimes girls just don't understand : ) karl
AzRednek
You have to invest in bullet casting equipment to save the maximum $$'s. If you have to buy bullets go with lead. At 45ACP velocities leading shouldn't be a problem. I'd search for another location if the range don't allow reloads. I can understand it if they are renting guns but to insist you can't use them in your own guns in BS. They probably claim insurance reasons but it is more likely to persuade you to buy their ammo. You might also look for local gun/shooting groups. Possibly there is a place in the boonies you can shoot. This guy is slower than cold molasses but his lead bullet prices are pretty good and quality is top notch. http://www.mattsbullets.com/
karlunity
<p>As to the reloads I agree.I cannot see the harm in it in my own guns. He is trying to boost sales...Same guy tried to sell me a $ 200 mauser for $ 800.I asked him if it was Hitler's personal rifle?A friend told me to keep the Win white box, the guy sells and refill it with reloads from Win brass and bullets, but until I find another place to shoot, don't want to get declared persona non grata. So I am following the rules.karl
ken98k
I would not use any facility that dictates what kind of ammo or firearm I can use, but then I'm somewhat of a nonconformist.
karlunity
Hello Ken In principle you are right. Problem is that the only other range is a 4 hour round trip and this one, the one that limits ammo, is 10 minutes away. So you can see the problem. karl
