FC
From Investors Business Daily Burned By The Costs Energy: Nine of 10 Europeans believe that man is causing the planet to heat up. Will a report that tells them they face sharply higher power costs if they try to do something about it cause some to question their faith? Not only do 90% of Europeans believe that man is behind a warming trend, a Financial Times poll found that 68% would either “strongly” or “somewhat” support lifestyle and purchase restrictions that would help resist warming. Nice of them to be so selfless when dealing in dreamy hypotheticals. Let’s see what they do when reality hits their wallets. Global Energy Decision has issued a report that says electricity prices could at least double if European nations are to meet emission-reduction goals set forth by the Kyoto Protocol. When presented with the prospect of financial burdens to meet Kyoto, only a fourth, the poll says, are willing to part with one week’s wages or more to curb the warming process, while a third said they wouldn’t be willing to pay anything. We’d expect those numbers to move downward even further when the higher power bills begin to arrive. No one should be surprised that living up to the demands of Kyoto will be costly. A study by the DRI-WEFA consulting group estimated that Britain, Germany and Spain would suffer GDP losses of 4%, 5.2% and 5%, respectively, in a Kyoto world. The International Council for Capital Formation believes the EU would lose from 1.5% to 4% of its GDP and millions of jobs, possibly 4 million in Spain alone, and that 1 million a year in Britain from 2008 to 2012, would be lost. On our side of the Atlantic, according to the Clinton White House that backed Kyoto but never sent the treaty to the Senate, the hit could be as much as $400 billion a year in costs and nearly 4.9 million lost jobs. Still think that efforts to stop global warming would be worth the costs? Consider this from junkscience.com: Each one-billionth of a degree in warming avoided will cost $100,000. “Guess that means for the bargain price of just $100 trillion we could theoretically lower global mean temperature by about 1 degree Celsius,” the Web site says. Environmentalists bemoan the costs of doing nothing in a world that grows warmer. But as Yale professor Robert Mendelsohn told the Senate in 2000: “Climate change is likely to result in small net benefits for the United States over the next century.” Even true believers in Europe should be able to see that the real costs far outweigh the benefits — which aren’t needed anyway. Dr.Hess
Hey FC, The thing is that the Kyoto BS really does nothing at all for global warming, even if you believe that "man" is causing it. What Kyoto really does is set up a new financial system to extract money from industrialized nations (read the U.S.A.) and transfer that money through a "banking" type system that takes a cut to third world dictators. They call this "selling CO2" something or others. See, the Republic of Kawanabamba Obamma has zero CO2 production because, well, they have nothing to produce CO2. But, the UN, through Kyoto, gives them so many CO2 "coupons". They sell this on a newly created "market" to the US, which has to pay them for the right to burn gasoline and produce CO2. See? Meanwhile, a whole new banking sector takes a slice off the top, plus that money going to the Republic of Kawanabamba Obamma somehow never quite gets to the poor people, or even to build infrastructure but somehow or other winds up in bank accounts in the Caymans or Switzerland or wherever else the rich are hiding their money. That is the real story behind Kyoto. It has nothing to do with "global warming" except to BS the ignorant. Dr.Hess
