Gettin' Older

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know

"why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads

weren't paved.

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?

I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a

nice change from being young.

Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

I'll be 54 next month, and now laugh at all the time spent worring about getting old.For the first time in my life,I am in debt to no man, have wonderful grand children that love me,and 2 kids that have aged enough to be making wise decisions. All it's cost me so far is weaker eyes and a lot of hair.A very good trade. The only part that sucks is,my parents are getting older too,and I still have a Grandmother.I dread the day! You guys are living good!

I'm happy about missing that whole "mid-life crisis" thing. Well, maybe I didn't miss it completely. I may not have a red sports car, but I do have a room full of rifles, and a shop full of tools to modify them.

" I may not have a red sports car, but I do have a room full of rifles, and a shop full of tools to modify them. "

I like that! As a senior member here, I can say the same. I used to have a red car, but it wasn't a sports car. In the '50s there weren't many sports cars around. So I painted my old '52 Ford red to attract the girls. My son did have a red sports car, a Mazda Z-car with the rotary engine. That was when he was starting college at UT. Remember the old days when a kid had to have a Stutz Bearcat and a fur coat when in college?

Green Acres TV show had one about that the other night. Eddie Albert was sending his hired helper to college (Harvard) and Mr. Haney tried to sell Oliver a "college kit". A Stutz Bearcat and a fur coat. I love those old Green Acres TV shows, Oliver Douglas was a true gentleman farmer.

As it turned out, the red Mazda ended up costing my son a bunch of money in repairs. Seems there are not many mechanics that know how to work on the Wankle engine. He eventually got rid of it and bought a Mazda sedan, and met the girl he is now married to. A girl that wasn't attracted to red sports cars.

Now, back to the room full of rifles and the shop to modify them--I just remodeled my workshop. I made it so as to do general farm maintenance work. But we all know that rifle work will take precedence.

Just this morning I cut the threads off a Yugo SKS barrel and installed a scope. Why, I have no clue, except the fact that my friend wanted me to do it. It now looks better, but with the trigger pull on the SKS, it will not be exactly what he was wishing for.

Such is life. Few things we wish for ever actually happen. But there are exceptions, and we live for those.

Still waiting for my well to come in,

fritz

Now I don't know about that!! Seems like when I was young I was carrying around a few less pounds, clothes were more comfortable, fit and getting out of the chair was a little easier. On the other hand I don't starve for a week anymore to be certain the suit fits by the weekend. It is much more comfortable just to buy one that fits.

I left my workshop behind with the X, now I have an entire back yard with no damm swimming pool all to myself. I use anything from the doghouse or my reloading and bullet casting tables as a work bench. I promised my g/f I would keep the garage as a place to park cars. My 74 Ford truck needs an engine overhaul so it looks like she is in for a big disapointment. I'll have to put a greasy hand print on the wall she painted to get her used to it. I'll have to make sure the grease comes from her car before I break the bad news. She is not going to be a happy camper!!
