Black Powder Revolvers...they Are Not That Much Work

A black powder revolver is a pain in the neck to clean after shooting.

You have to fool with hot water and Q-tips and it takes an hour to do it right.

With cartridge arms, you are done in ten minutes.

Yet, ....

If you stop and think about it, with cartridge arms, you have to then, clean are resize all the brass, re-prime and re-load. So by the time you are done, you have spent another two hours of work.

In the long run, the cap and ball may be faster to take care of.

What do you fellas think?

The cap and ball take longer. Loading takes a long time.

When I clean mine, I boil water and pour it through the parts. I used to strip the pistol down and boil it in a pan, but not anymore. They're fun to shoot, but the fouling makes it hard to shoot more than 6 rounds through the pistol unless they are really lubed up with Barstol, is it? It's a spray that's hard to find.

I agree that C&B revolvers can be a pain in the donkey but black powder shooting is fun. My last outing with C&B's we used Triple 7 and wonder wads. Not only is the cleaning much easier, allot less scrubbing at the range. I know it is not real black powder but sure is allot cleaner and just as exciting.
