karlunity
Senators Challenge Pres. Obama on Rumors of Executive Order Amnesty if violating the border is a federal crime, and it is, Mr. Obama has the Constitutional power to issue a pardon. Only questions are: Would the Court let it stand and what political damage it would do to the left ? It could have the same effect for the Dems that the "Freedman" vote had for the Republicans after the Civil War. If memory serves, the GOP kept the White house from 1860 till 1912 with the exception of 4 years for Cleveland. That is a 48 year run. His problem is that a pardon alone would NOT give them the right to vote or to stay in the nation so he has to have some sort of program in place to allow them to stay and vote and that takes an act of Congress. The critical time will be after the Nov elections, during the "lame duck" period many dems will have nothing to lose and may for idealistic reasons or revenge on the voters who turned them out, put in place a bill granting citizenship to illegals. Then, next election, the new voters return the left to power for a generation. If the right does not win 2/3s of the Congress, they cannot override the veto any repeal would surely bring. AzRednek
Remember all the questions raised about Clinton's 11th hour pardons?? Despite the questions raised in congress there was absolutely nothing that could be done about it. Obama being the ego maniac he is might just do it as revenge when he discovers he is a single term President. My guess, he is raising the issue now for leverage to pass his so-called comprehensive immigration reform so the Dems can gain another 40 million voters. If any of you are radio junkies like me you have likely heard the public service announcement regarding Hispanic voter drives.
