cougar69
Hi guys, it`s me again. I was shooting the Rem JSPFN 458 dia 405g bullets over 34g of Reloder 7 out of my originable M1873 TD & it is very accreate out to 200yds with this recipe. I can`t find the Rem`s anywere so I`m going to try some Oregon Trail Laser hard cast 459 dia 405g bullets in it. My question is, can I use the same ammount of RL 7 for these as I did for the Rem bullets? Thanks in advance.
AzRednek
You can use jacketed data for lead of the same weight. You do however want to keep lead velocity to apx 2,000 FPS or less. Maybe a bit faster with gas checked slugs. If you drive lead to fast. The chances of leaving lead residue in your barrel is greatly increased. The standard common sense rule applies when you change any portion of an established load. Reduce load by 10% and work your way up checking along the way for signs of high pressure. I can't comment on your particular load as I've never used RL-7 in 45/70.
ken98k
I alway heard you were not supposed to use smokeless in original Trap Door Springfields?
CurtInAtl
My Sierra and Lyman books both have smokeless loads specifically for the trapdoor rifles.
