FC
Have a look at bbc.com about the worldwide ransomware attack.
Dr.Hess
Yeah, I saw that. Anyone that is hit needs to wipe the disk and start over. With book drives in the hundred dollar range, there's no reason not to have a weekly backup.
Racepres
I have already evicted two cases of Ransomeware..Daughter in law and a Friend... Keep a "live" copy of Linux on hand, and off we go
gun nutty
Microsoft supposedly pushed a patch for this in March to Vista, Win 7, 8.1, & 10. For 8.1 and 10 users, I'm at a complete loss as to how any machine got infected. Users need to enable security updates frequently. Patches are listed as available via this link: https://it.slashdot.org/story/17/05/13/1745241/as-world-reacts-to-wanadecrypt0r-microsoft-issues-patch-for-old-windows-systems I won't work on XP, Vista, and Win 7 machines anymore. I point the user to the Walmart ad with the $299 HP laptop, or I offer to install Fedora 25 Linux.
karlunity
I run Fedora 25 but keep Win 7 for the minor stuff Fedora still wont run. I had W 10 but took it out..the stuff has more spy wear than the NSA! You can also get bit in email..as a rule if you dont know who sent it ...dont open it. Best figure that if it is on the web someone can back track...The things the boys and girls can do on computer are amazing. karl
Dr.Hess
From what I've read, the current ransomware thing was sent in an email. Who knows it that is accurate or not, but that is what I've read.
karlunity
I would think E mail for a weak point as well. karl
