montea6b
Richard's Microfit has several different Mauser stocks, the Mauser 98, Mauser 98 FN, and Mauser Mark X. Can anybody here tell me what the differences in inletting might be? The only thing I can possibly think would be different is some additional inletting to accomodate a side safety, and I find it hard to believe that they would even bother making an extra cut for this when it is so simple to modify a standard 98 stock for this. cold shot
hey monte, like you i'm at a loss too unless it might be due to barrel contour plus the side safety issue. personally i've just been using 98 mil stocks. i bought a corlite/barrel combo few years ago and only inletted for the side safety. dave
z1r
The FN & MK X can usually be treated as the same. The main difference between the commercials & military stocks is the triggerguards. The commercials tend to be shorter at the front becuase they don't have locking screws. Having been in their shop numerous times I can say that I've never noticed a difference in the inletting. It all appears to be short so you can fit a longer guard if needed.
flaco
Monty- I never thought I'd see the day I'd order a Richard's stock, but I have two "Old Classics" coming to use for target/varmint rifles. I spoke to the production manager, and he said their CNC inletting for an FN Commercial would work for both a 1909 and a Mark X. (I did tell them I wouldn't be using the Mark X safety.) flaco
montea6b
Thanks guys, I forgot about the front triggerguard tang being longer on military TGs. The first stock I did had the shorter length for a commercial guard, but it was easy enough to lengthen. Or one could grind the military guard to fit I guess. Racepres
I am as far from a "wood expert" as one can get... but Having dealt w/ boyds.. I would bet that if it is worthwhile... they did it. And probably for a reason. At risk of sounding like a "commercial" I will say that they have won me, and my business... No need for me to look elsewhere, unless it is abt truly custom stuff... Which I don't deserve !!! MV
