Went looking for a Mosin and came home with a FN Mauser.
As far as I am concerned, that's the most fun thing you can do with a Mosin Nagant; trade it in on a Mauser.

As Pacrat said, the scope base was crudely fitted to that receiver. The rear hole on the receiver ring is in the lug web or maybe even on the seat. Snap a pic of the lugseats. More mportantly, the hole spacing is off. Should be .860" and looks be .500" or so. The hole on the rear bridge should not "normally" be on the charger hump but behind it. No biggie because if you recountour you can pace a second hole .500" behind it.

Thanks gun nutty! Like I said stupid question. I am just a shooter and all the loading stuff is still very fuzzy to me. I hope to start loading and trying to learn these things soon but now Im just ignorant to that stuff.
Not a stupid question at all. The fact that you were thinking about feed issues shows you were thinking. When you consider the cost of custom dies these days, wildcats like this are very expensive. You'd need a reamer $150, gages $50, dies up to $200 plus the barrel, chambering, & fitment. The .308 isn't that hard to make feed, neither is the .30-06. The 7.65x53 is a .308 equivilent but with .311" bullets as gunnutty said.

Why not a po box?
Cuz UPS don't deliver to PO boxes.

Why does the bolt need replacing?
-
Me, I'd forego the .35 Remin Favor of either the 9x57 or .358 Win. Either can be handloaded to duplicate the Rem's performance with 100% feeding & extracting reliability.
Yea, not quite sure what's going on with teh 6,5 barrel????

Those G33?40's are junk, you should just sell it to me:)

It will fit, it just won't look correct.

Me, I would send it down the road and get a good looking action. Structurally, it's most likely fine. But, I hate to see someone build a nice rifle on an action that, once finished, they may not feel is as nice as the rest of the rifle.
Three holes in the siderail and front ring for a side mount scope. You can unplug the one in the front ring and call it a gas port.
It really all depends on what "caliber" rifle you want. By that I mean grade rifle you want to end up with. As I said, structurally....probably fine.
If that scope is toast, I'd be interested in buying the turret caps off of you.

I lost the love of my life. My wife of 42 years died in her sleep last night. Her heart just stopped and she passed without pain. This lady was to out live me due to my health problems. This was just a total shock and so unexpected. So here's my vent. If you love someone or something tell them so or just go do it! Instead of waiting till tomorrow for an I love you. This morning no kiss no more I love you's. So go tell your love that you do love them and don't end up being an old man banging his head on the monitor saying, "I should have".
Sorry! I just needed to vent and this is only place I felt safe enough to do so.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. You gave good advice, advice I try to follow.
All the best,
Mike

What a unique and inovative way to put the fix on a busted stock. Looking Good
How the heck do you shoot that without sights?
-
I'm pretty happy, especially when I get to buy a new rifle.
-
The most popular small bore I'm asked to make is the 6.5x55. The 7x57 is also a very easy conversion, in fact, it can be a tad easier than the 6.5 which is pretty simple itself.
-
Yes.
Many 1917 enfields were made of very hard steel and the barrels were instilled very tightly by machine.
So many receivers cracked when the barrels were replaced.
In short, if the barrel does not say 1917 or 1918 have the receiver checked.
Karl
This is really only an issue with Eddystones.

Yup. Thats exactly where I seen it.
Rojelio, I agree that double triggers are not "necessary" but its not about a need. It's just cool. And I already have a couple good hunting rifles so I'm wanting to turn this into a long range target rifle and change it over from 8mm K98 to 6.5x55 or 7x57. I can't decide. I would really like to try F-Class shooting and I want a light kick so this rifle is primarily going to be "just for fun" shooting.
But as was pointed out this will be expensive and difficult to install. So I'm planning on installing a Timney first, then later I'll switch it over to a double.
Not that expensive and not that difficult.

All the parts you need can be found at Brownells, or NECG.

Fellows,
On another forum I stated that on Mauser rifles that a multi barrel or take down Mauser sporting rifle need only be hand tight when attaching the barrel. That on a fixed barrel Mauser just a little more than hand tight is enough. The site moderator responded that I was wrong. (This is assuming that your primary and secondary tourque shoulders on an M98 or primary tourque shoulder on a pre 98 and headspace are machined correctly)
Am I wrong? If not are there any sources I can site to show that I am correct?
Thanks guys,
Vlad
The thing to realize is that yes, on Takedown or Switch barrel mausers the barrels are screwed in hand tight such that no tools are required. However, these also rely on some other device to keep the barrel from unscrewing. The Simplest, a screw in the receiver ring to keep the barrel stationary. The more complex being a takedown lever similar to those on nice double barrels

someone needs to tell me i DON'T need an Enfield 1917... i DON'T need a large bore DG rifle... i NEED to finish the projects i have going already...
ugh... the sickness is BAD this week!
You really don't, they require much more effort to make look good than a Mauser.
What cal WERE you thinking of?

Does anyone make a .311 barrel?
Lothar walther does.

Jerry,
You have our thoughts and prayers.

Turkey barns that collapsed under ice, right? I never heard from him again, and wondered what became of him.
Yup, lost the Turkey coops. Like I said, he's a tough man, just found another horse to climb back on top of. Work keeps him busy but he does check in from time to time to read. Like many of us, too much work and not enough time for our projects but at least we have work.
It's been fun being able to meet some of the forum members.

Manureman was driving through town and called so I met him for a cup of coffee. Spent a good couple of hours just talking and killing time. A nice way to spend the afternoon. He's a hell of a nice guy that seems to have rebounded from that awful winter several years ago. Works keeps him busy so like many of us he gets little time on the forum.
Thanks for the cup of coffee Jim!

I know that the VZ is Brno made. I guess I'm confused as to where Zastava is and where in Czechoslovakia is the Brno factory?
What does the circled Z proof mark stand for?
Obviously still learning
Tinker it is cz's trademark
Zastava is made in what is now Serbia in the town of Kragujevac.
Brno is in what is now the Czech Republic.

Brian
Turn your VZ action over and check the bottom for a Z inside a circle.
That is for the Zastava factory proof mark.
Whomever is just referring to the bolt by where it was made.
VZ 24 is just the short rifle version of the 98-22.
You can't tell by looking at the bolt which gun it was made for.
They were all products of the Checho. Zastava plant at different times.
Now as to the barrel, I never heard of a 300 win mag. coming out of
Zastava Although I've been wrong before, I think that it was likely made by someone else.
As far as fitting is concerned, if the barrel is cut for a large ring Mauser
1.1 X 12tpi it should likely fit. If you are lucky it will be a tight fit.
Tell dad that you need some father son bonding time.
Surely you could talk him into staying late some evenings or going in on
Sunday with you. It's not a 24X7 shop is it?
VZ24's were not made by Zastava in what used to be Yugoslavia, they were made by Brno in what used to be Czechoslovakia. Zastava did offer the Interams Mk X in .300WM, as did they on their Charles Daly made rifles, and the Rem 798 all of which are Zastava made actions. The Zastava logo is a zcz inside a circle that can look like a CZ, the two are often confused but they are NOT the same.
the parts will work in most cases as they are considered standard 98 actions.
