  1. It was a Timney Featherweight Deluxe trigger. It is a very good trigger, only I don't like the side safety. I'd rather have a safety blocking the cocking piece rather than just a sear block safety, just my opinion. The stock started life as a bishop before it went on a diet.
  2. I squared the notch and fit a block of steal to it and radiused the inside to match the inside of the bolt raceway and tig welded it up and dressed the outside with a file.
  3. This rifle has been one of my favorite rifles for A number of reasons. It'll take care of most everything in my neck of the woods, and it is fun to shoot to boot. I put a Douglas barrel on it and filled in the thumb notch, and hung a nice trigger on it. It shoots well under 1/2 MOA @100 yards.
  4. measure outside to outside, and then deduct bullet diameter. That will give you center to center measurement. It is shooting Sub 2 MOA.

    Help!

You can always re-nig on the deal, it's becoming a frequent practice now days.
  6. If the throat need cleaned up you might consider rechambering to 8mm-06 and gain a little more umph out of it. Still cheaper than rebarreling it. How does it shoot now?
  7. Acuraglass will hold up to the temperature of of hot blueing tanks, I filled some pits with black acuraglass and bead blasted it and are almost undectable after hot blueing, with the bead blast finish.
  8. Should be a slam dunk. One of my turks is now a 35 whelen Ackley Improved and will feed upside down if need be with Nosler 225 gn. ballistic tips.
  9. Usually the throat is eroded in the old GI barrels, and the crown might need some looking at. Why not rechamber the barrel to 8mm-06 and clean up the throat and recrown barrel? That is if there is not any lug set back problems.
  10. Yes it's almost like that here now!
  11. Way to go! I used my 7.62x39 small ring rifle this year and dropped 2 does opening morning with no problem. I was using 150 grain round nose 30-30 type bullets, was all I had on hand at the time of load development, but did get a box of hornady sp 150 grain bullets but haven't tried to work up a load in the rifle yet. Both does went 10-15 yards and dropped dead.
  12. Maybe you do for the 1,000 White tail deer that you here about, but I've never seen one that big. A 22LR and good shot placement will get them down, but not legal here. 7.62x39 with good hand loads and good bullets is comparable to a 30-30, which is plenty good for a average size white tail deer.
  13. Opening day today, I got two does with my low budget project rifle. Pictures coming.
  14. Here's my 35 Whelen Imp. pretty straight foreword conversion. I used a A&B barrel and it shoots about .650" groups @ 100 yards.
  15. No I just been kicking myself in the A** for a long time, for getting rig of another 380 I had.
  16. I've been doing some work on a friends house and he told me he would have to pay me later, no big deal. So the other day I was talking about a PPK/S I saw on the net for sale and he said he had one and would be willing to get rid of it instead of coming up with the cash, so I said let's check it out. Long story short I now have a PPK/S, and have always wanted one. 380 is cheep to load and is very fun to shoot.
  17. No, they taste WAY BETTER than white tail deer!!!!
  18. Nice looking Deer, I can't wait to go in December my self.
  19. Mix some sanding dust from the stock into the acra glass and it will be less noticeable.
  20. Reinstall a new piece of nylon and don't cut it that short next time.
  21. Re chambering to 8-06 will usually clean up the throat.
