  1. The shroud is a Mark X type and then a slot filed into it and the lever is all made by hand from a block of steel and then hardened.
  2. No you don't, and their a but pain to make.
  3. 89 mauser but there was no crest on it so you're guess is as good as mine.
  4. Here's my .35 Whelen Imp. I put together out of spare parts I had laying around the shop. I think I had about $320.00 in all of it, I got the action for $3.00 it was in very bad shape, all cosmetic. I worked up a load for it and it shoots about .620" groups@ 100 yards. It is one of my favorite rifles to hunt with.
  5. I think 4D products rents them, along with chamber reamers.
  6. The worst beer I had in college, all It said on the plain white box was Plisner that was it. 2.85 a 12 pack including tax. it had a hang over worst than any 3.2% flew you ever had
  7. 35Whelen, 9.3x62, and 416 taylor should work just fine on you're 09.

    Thumb Notch

I squared up the notch and beveled the edges and fit a piece of mild steel and tig welded it in place. The clean up on the inside took several hours, I tried to get some pictures of the inside but my Camera and the lighting couldn't seen to get anything to come out very good I'll work on it tho.

    Thumb Notch

Here are some pictures of the 1909 arg. action I welded up the thumb notch on. Check out the safety It's hand made.
  10. To me I think they look like what a real cartridge should look like, fat with sharp distinct shoulders. In reality I work up A load until l I get the best group within the loading data I can find, or until I start getting excessive pressure signs. I don't in any means hot load any of my rifles, or try to get or match any published data. Powders have changed over the years, or at least the published data in the loading books have. So If I'm in dought I call one of the powder company's and ask one of their teck's about a load. As far as my 7-08 Imp. so far all I've shot through it so far is factory 7-08 off the shelf ammo. and have been getting 1/2 MOA groups fire forming with winchester 140 balistic silver tips. An Ackley Improved or most any version of the parent cartridge is not going to work wonders and S***T Spiders over the parent cartridge. You either love them or you don't. The most popular of the Ackley improved's is the 257 roberts, but it is not the most improvement in his experiments. The one that had the most improvement was the 25-35wcf followed by the 30-40 creg. But if you're still interested in loading data when I start working up a load I'll share it with you.
  11. How about some pictures? I might want one or two.
  12. I picked it up at a local guys wood working shop, that has a lot of unique kinds of wood scraps laying around. I like it too, hell until then I'd never seen it before, but after working with it I don't think I'd use it for a hole stock as it's a little on the soft side.
  13. Thank you AzRedneck, the stock needs refinishing after going hunting last year, other than that I'm happy with the way it turned out. No it is etched with glass bead can be done before blueing or after, and on polished or bead blasted finishes.
  14. If anyone is interested in etching you're barrel feel free to contact me.
  15. 9.3x62, 375 whelen, 400 whelen, or 416 taylor, I've been looking at all of these but don't need them my 35 whelen A.I. seems to do the trick for me.
  16. It is one use I have found for my cnc decal cutter, using it and then bead blasting it.
  17. Not to bad, it took me about an hour and a half on the first one, the second one about half that much time. I know a lot of people don't like them, but the ones I installed work just fine, and weren't that hard to do.
  18. Here is my latest build. It started out as a turkish mauser. It's fitted with a Douglas match barrel, chambered in 7mm-08 Imp., Gentry 3 position safety, timney trigger, mark X trigger guard, and a richard's microfit XXXstock. It's nothing ,Super fancy but it fills the bill, considering I got two White tails with it last year at about 400 yards+. It has a zebra wood fore end tip and grip cap Sorry I'm not a pro Picture taker.
