  1. Hey guys good to see you, been a while. I went home on leave during rifle season and did some deer hunting...only got 1 doe with my DPMS rig.

During my visit to the good old USA I built a few more toys smile.gif

This one is a FN action, FAC 300 wm Stainless 26 inch barrel, Richards Microfit tac driver stock in Tigerwood, Bold Optimum trigger, Sightron S3 Scope, Leupold Mount and rings.

Action was trued, parked, luggs lapped, raceways polished and modified for the magnum cal., Glass bed action and free floated the barrel.

    Should be a shooter.

  3. Im getting the stuff together for fiinishing my 25-06, the action will be back to me next week from Skaggs Gunsmithing, and Im getting a stock from richards microfit, in the tiger wood laminate. My question is what fisnish to use on the wood, so as not to darken it much if any, I would like it to be as transparent as possble without actually stainging the wood. I used a clear satin on another laminate, in camo, and it darkened it quite a bit.  heres a pic of the wood Im dealing with and what Id like it to end up like, Thank You

  4. Nice bedding job!  I was hoping for a pic.  Is the stock relieved just a bit at the rear of the tang also? I thought I remembered reading that it was necesary to prevent a crack from forming there.

You are correct, yes it is

  5. Yes I bed the entire action

no need to bed the barrel unless you are doing a full bed/pressure bed, no need for the first 2 inchs to be bed unless you are sporting a very heavy barrel and even so, you will be better off letting the barrel free float all of the way, in the picture it shows the first 2 inches bedded but I cut it out before finnishing the gun.

  6. Jason,I have a Corelite and Hogue, and I like the lightness of the Hogue but the Corelight seems to be a harder material. My Hogue has a Swede in it and I'm going to attempt to get it Accra Glassed before deer season.Tougher or hander, looks like your decision.I looked at Butler Creeks a couple times at the Dallas gunshow, and if I had enough scratch,I would've bought one. They looked and felt like good work stocks.Jerry

corelight will do you fine....and save money

  7. I have glassed the ATI to look like the first picture, but in the second, it looks like the trigger gaurd is made of glass or covered with glass.

Does the action still come out of the stock?

    TIA

yes the action still comes out, no Glass on the trigger guard.

  8. Sorry took so long, I am TDY down south in Korea, Iam in a Hotel.

What did you use to finish your stock,?

First sprayed with car trunk paint for texture, then cammo done with Krylon.

Is it reinforced to attach the bipod? no, never had a need too.

Also do you do anything special to hold the mag spring in place? no it works fine

  9. I got a n e-mail back from one of my friends that I built a 35 Whelen for from a VZ 24.

    Hi Jim

how are you doing?? DV got back from Africa and said

his gun you made performed very well!! (he only used

    200gr)..he shot many animals,including big

Kudos--which they say tasted very great! I think his

longest shot was 150yds--whatever he hit he knocked

over!! He said this African guide said your rifle was

the nicest he had ever seen in all his years guiding!
