  1. Kenny don't take offense to this because its not directed at you. But umm...who cares? I mean really, who gives a rat's ear?
  2. Quote of the day - "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." - Margaret Thatcher
  3. If that's new definition then I believe the politically correct term for a Mugger is Democratic politician.
  4. I'm not big on the whole "Christmas" thing either. I celebrate the significance of Christ's birth but all the commercial, OMG SPEND MONEY crap has ruined the rest of it. I'd much rather have a couple days off to go to church and be with family and exchange gifts throughout the year than I would get sucked into the "Holiday spirit" and help the retailers out.
  5. Got pics of the mystery gun? I love a good challenge!
  6. Jerry! I envy the hell out of you. All I've had time to do this year is work. Work, work, and more work. I've been deer hunting twice this year and didn't see anything. So, I'm glad to hear you cats had a large time on the border. Stay warm up there in DFW! -Jason
  7. I'm sorry, your avatar was distracting me. Again. As to your rifle, well...looks like a helluva wall hanger. I'm not sure you'll be able to surface grind that one back to health. I'm afraid it looks just a little too far over the edge to be brought back.
  8. Tinker, If I understand, you used hollow point factory 7.62x39 ammo to kill your deer with? Something like the hollow point Wolf I shoot in my SKS? As I understand it, this stuff isn't really made to hunt with. What these bullets don't have, that Core Lokts and other soft nose bullets do have, is a bonded core. This prevents the jacket from seperating from the lead core on impact and keeps the bullet from blowing up. This is an essential to get the good penetration needed for a good clean kill. The hollow points are more like Sierra Matchkings which do not have a bonded core. They're very accurate and lots of guys hunt with them. However, they tend to explode on impact instead of penetrating to the vitals which might result in a wonded animal running off...which is never a good thing. I would be leary about hunting anymore big game with these. There is softpoint 7.62x39 available on the market and I would hunt with that over to hollow points any day. That's my $.02. -Jason
  9. Yes, I do. That and much, much worse. The grass ain't necessarily greener in the other pasture once you get over the fence; trust me. I'm going to have to echo Jim. You're a senior officer stationed in Hawaii. Even if your boss is a douche and you can't stand the people you work with, there are far worse places/situations you could be stuck in.
  10. Tony, With the economy slowing down there's a bunch of people looking for work and there will probably be a bunch more who are going to be looking for work before things are all said and done. I know you're not too wild about your job; I'm not too, too fond about either of mine and really, I don't know too many people who are in love with theirs either. But, you do have a job and that at least puts you ahead of a bunch of other people. While it may suck, you might as well keep on working down in Hawaii. You've got job security and a lot better benefits than most - and that's not a horrible position to be in just now. This is just one man's opinion, so take it for what its worth. -Jason
  11. The government hasn't won the war on drugs because it doesn't want to - there's too much money tied up in fighting it. Its kinda like medicine - the money's in the treatment, not the cure.
  12. I sure hope Obama can deliver on everything he commited to. Otherwise, there's going to be a great many disenchanted, koolaid drinking, dreamers who are gong to feel very let down. So may Obama be everything they hope he'll be. ....otherwise I'll be standing there with a sly grin saying "I told you so" and chuckling quietly to myself...
  13. ...I'm working two jobs now. I never thought I'd need or want to, but here lately its been both. Anybody need a custom stained glass window? Ain't life grand?
  14. This isn't precisley what you're looking for, but might this be helpful? Steve Wagner's Baking Oven Edit: Wait a minute...you're looking for that baking oven Fritz made out of a piece of pipe, a plow disk, and a fish cooker. If its not immediately apparent in the archives, you'll have to run a search to find it. It was a pretty informative post so I imagine its still here.
  15. Well, we had to have a Carter to get a Reagan. Maybe something positive will come of all this mess.
  16. Tony, I'd hang on to them as an investment. You never know...they all might be worth more in a couple years after the damned socialists take office. It is my philosophy that you can't have too many guns. -Jason
  17. You'll know the economy is really circling the bowl when they start seizing our guns and preventing the sale of ammunition. I try my best to remain optimistic in my outlook, but the current batch of politicians keeps making it easy to think negatively about our future.
  18. If there's too much spring tension under the promag follower, why not shorten the spring and take some of the tension off?
  19. Nope! Ain't me. I put 200 miles on the bike yesterday running around East Texas and its getting to be a bit too chilly to for cruising on a motorcycle. I really can't see myself heading north this time to year - commies or no commies. Besides, I'm never one to run away from a problem. I love my country and if there is to be trouble, I want to be here to sort it out - not run away from it.
  20. Well the commie has won. What else is there to say?
  21. Jerry, Here's a few ideas based on my own workshop experiences. First, get some insulation and insulate the roof. The walls maybe, but I would definitely put some fiberglass between you and the roof. I saw a guy do that to the steel awning he put over his shooting benches and it helped keep you away from the heat generated when the sun warmed up the roof. Next, buy the biggest window unit you can find and install it - either in a window or cut a hole the wall for it. My step-father's next door neighbor did that to his shop and it was a great place to piddle around in on the stifling August afternoons. A heater probably wouldn't be a terrible idea either if you could swing it. Then, sit down with a pad and a pencil and kinda plan out how you want your shop to look and what all furniture, tools, and equipment you want in there. I know you're looking for a place to keep your tools, reload, work on guns, and watch NASCAR and football so you're going to need to know how to wedge a couch and card table in amongst the workbenches and power tools. Further, build some sho' nuff workbenches. The kind you can beat on, weld on, and spill caustic stuff all over without hurting them. You know, the kind like we all used to have in shop class in high school. Also, wire up more electrical outlets than you think you'll need and allow for some good lighting so you can see what you're working on without straining your eyes. And when you're done with the benches, do think about some cabinets and shelves to store everything. I have basically converted my garage over to a workshop and motorcycle storage and if I could change three things, I'd have more light, more outlets, and more places to store my tools. Lastly...put a big lock on the door and hang a "Jerry's Place" sign outside!
  22. Hope everyone had a safe Halloween. Since its Saturday now, yall be sure and set your clocks back an hour. Dad sent me an email to remind me and I wanted to pass that along. I'm sure gonna enjoy that extra hour of sleep!
