  1. Yo hablo pocito espanlo y lo hablo mal. No me aprenda nada aleman. German is one language I plan to learn someday and is the one interesting language that is offered nowhere in my area. Neither the high school nor the University had enough interest to offer it as a course. Tis a shame really because I'd like to go to Germany someday and converse with the Germans like I do when I go to Mexico and speak spanish with the Mexicans. I guess learning German is another one of those life goals for me. Jason
  2. Wheel-O? This must fit the 30-40 age bracket. I'm 22 and haven't the foggiest what it is. As Jimro will agree, Legos are still far and away the best toy for a creative kid! (I do admit to having lots of fun with cardboard boxes and wrapping paper tubes too!) And, for its worth, I always wanted a Power Wheel - never could sell Dad on that or a go-cart. Bummer...

    gun laws

The problem with disarming the citizenry is that we have owned firearms for so long they're a part of our culture. As such, the goverment will never find all the firearms out there, nor will they be able to stem the flow of illegal firearms entering the country via the criminal element. If they could, they could also stem the flow of illegal narcotics and illegal aliens - neither of which they've been terribly sucessful at. And again, I don't trust a government who wants me disarmed "for my own good." What if Al Qaeda launches another attack on us? What if Mexico invades? I have a right to defend myself. Frankly, all the arguments against gun ownership are in some way flawed. The genie has been out of the bottle for so long now that I think its better we just continued to live with guns as a part of our culture and hertiage rather than surrender them so the Clintons and Kennedys can sleep at night. Futhermore, I have no immediate plans to surrender mine. America is still a free country and we still have a constitution that enables me to own firearms. For as long as I walk this Earth, I shall exercise that right. That's my opine on the subject. Jason
  4. What really gets to me is when I have to stand in line at the self-check out counter while Ma Kettle and her covey of piglets check out one and half cart loads of groceries and then she gets into a debate with that one clerk who's job it is to cover said four machines over her method of payment (check!) and her coupons. See, the self checkout is made for people like me who are only buying a gallon of milk and a hawiian shirt and don't want to stand in line at the "Express Checkout" while everyone runs their 20 items or less through. I've all but abandoned the regular checkout isles and there are certain times during the day when I simply won't shop as I quite possibly the most impatient person walking the Earth when it comes to waiting on other people. I think anyone who intends on running a month's work of groceries through the self-checkout during peak business hours deserves to be taken to the hardware section and beaten with a length of rubber hose. The self-checkouts are there so a person can get in and out quickly! And I'll admit that I use them frequently as here in Nacogdoches, they work beautifully 95% of the time. Jason
  5. Tony, If you get your money back from this Elliot Lee character, let's pack up our bag of tricks and head elsewhere. I think its time that we looked into Infopop or somebody else that will at least be able to provide steady service. I think you've put too much time into the setup and maintainence of this board to glean second rate results from a college kid who's doing this on the side to make money. It's not our fault that he ain't available on the weekends - for $169 he can darn well be available to fix our problems. I think this charade has gone on long enough. If Lee can't provide steady service, I say that we can fire his service and take our business elsewhere. Anything less isn't fair to you as I know you're exceedingly busy and don't have time to fight with the service provider, credit card company, and a half-interested college kid. You have made a large investment in both time and money and right now I see you getting a good return on neither. Jason
  6. Vladymere, For simplicity's sake, I think I would build a 6.5x55. I know that caliber has been used successfully for a long time as a match caliber and I have seen match rifles so chambered. In fact, I have a long range shooting program that was given to me by a relative that uses the 6.5x55 as the "lightest" caliber to hone your skills. Furthermore, I would tend to think that you may find more match grade components for the 6.5x55 than the 6.5x57. Plus, commercial ammo is always more common for the x55. I don't think you could go wrong with either caliber though. And I doubt you'd have much trouble building either caliber on an intermediate action. I myself am in the process of building a semi-varmint 6.5x55 on a Yugoslavian action. This just my $.02 so take it for whats its worth. I think you'll be find which ever cartridge you choose. Jason
  7. Does that mean somebody would finally be able to tell me what's wrong with my computer?
  8. I'm convinced that many of these little corrupt governments have managed to keep themselves in power by convincing the population its our fault instead of theirs. That way, they'll hate us instead of their own government and use their negative energy to lash out against us instead of toppling their own government and setting up a better system. They have to hate somebody for their predicament - the less they believe their government is taking advantage of them, the better off and healthier the men running their government stay. I have no empirical evidence to support this; its just one of my theories. It does seem to hold some truth though. So, just my $.02. Jason
  9. Would you write this off as sabre rattling? Or is the US covertly trying to pull some slight-of-hand black op down in Venezula? I just can't imagine why we'd bully them? They have something we want and so far, they've been willing to sell it to us at their price. How are we being aggressive? ---------------------- Otherwise, I believe the US still practices the Monroe Doctrine to a certain extent. If the Venezulan minister thinks he's going to bring us to our knees by shutting off our oil supply, I'd advise him to rethink his stance. We have a long history of exercising our hegemony in Latin America. Threatening us is the best way to bring about a revolution in your country and wake up with slit throat. Oil, in case he hasn't noticed, is something that we are actively pursuing through diplomatic and military means. Venezula ain't nearly as far away as Iraq or Iran and the neighboring countries have far fewer insurgents to send in as help to the beleagured Venezulan regime should we be forced to take action. I think the Ramirez is simply trying to beat his chest a little and gain a little attention. Remember, its always fun to get your digs in on the neighborhood big guy when you can...
  10. I traded for one last year and kinda have it installed on the action I planned the project for. The step is very different on the barrel than any other Mauser barrel I have yet encountered so I plan to buy a stock that has the action inletted and a 1/2" starter channel cut in for the barrel and do the rest myself. Eventually, this will end up as the Mannlicher I started last year for my Dad. All I need now is the money to finish it... Jason
  11. roscoedoh.... This is my number one dog Roscoe: The Dukes of Hazzard was my favorite afternoon show my freshman year of high school. I put two of my favorite things together and hatched my most used online handle.
  12. Jimro, The 8x68s is its own case and actually pre-dates the 300 Win Mag by several years. Moreover, its a beltless case that is ~ 5mm longer than the 300 Winnie. Its more on par with the 8mm Rem Mag. It looks something like a huge 30-06 case. -------------------------------------- On the WSM and WSSM cartridges: at what point do bolt thrust and other such technical issues become serious issuses with working on Mausers? And don't the short mags operate at higher pressures than the cartridges we generally rechamber for? Jason
  13. Take the shortest distance between to points...build a 458 Lott. They seem to be hot thing going right now and are said to have the ability to kill darn near anything dangerous on the planet. (500 grains @ 2300 FPS!!) Furthermore, Numrich I believe may have some type of magazine conversion kit for you to enable you to use H&H based cartridges. If you want a complete "African" battery, build a 300 H&H or 375 H&H and a 458 Lott. You'll also want to study up on recoil absorbing stock design and invest in thick recoil pads and possible mercury recoil reducers. Neither the 375 nor the 458 are anything to laugh at in the recoil department. They'll probably be the easiest to get to feed too. Good luck with this. I wish I were you and was sitting on a couple nice Enfields and I'd surely do what I mentioned above! You're a lucky guy. Apparently you and Z have had nice a week! Jason
  14. A quick note to everyone that owns a cell phone (and who doesn't nowadays?): When you go into a public place like a crowded store, restuarant, library, or movie theater please place it on "silent" or simply turn the darn thing off. There really is nothing like trying to enjoy the movie I paid $7.50 to see or eat the meal I'm paying an arm and leg for while you're next to me shouting into your phone. You didn't really need to have that conversation right then did you? Afterall, I came to these places of polite enjoyment to get away from the hustle and bustle outside and I am paying to be there. As I don't think you aught to carrying on a conversation with food in your mouth, while looking for a book, or while trying to watch an expensive movie, why don't you take your phone outside and visit. See, I'm old enough to remember when nobody had a cell phone or more than one telephone line in their home. As I am still alive, I can see where the need to be absolutely in touch with your "peeps" all the time is unnecessary. So why not enjoy your meal or the movie and have some common friggin' courtesy for the people around you? Or have polite manners and common courtesy passed completely into antiquity?
  15. If you have The Ten Commandments in your courtroom, you lose your job? You rip a page out of the koran, you lose your job? If you burn the US Flag, it is freedom of speech but if you desecrate the koran it is criminal. If a crime is committed to a minority, it is a HATE crime requiring harsher sentencing. However if 19 people murder 3000, you need to learn to understand them and it really wasn't their fault? If you decapitate a US contractor who is trying to rebuild your country, it is troubling. If you humiliate a detainee who is intent on killing you, it is criminal and you should go to jail? A teacher can discuss about the muslim religion and the koran in public schools to promote understanding but that same teacher will be fired if she/he discusses Christianity?? Thank a liberal!
  16. "Made in America by lazy and incompontent union labor. Tested in Japan." Piss on them; they started it - we finished it. Have no regrets. Feel not sorry for yourself. Jason
  17. U.K. Institutes New Deportation Measures Something tells me we would not get away with this over there...
  18. Flaco, I've been told by a local psychic that my 6.5 may actually be done...but that has not yet been confirmed. I hope when I call my 'smith tomorrow, he'll say "Yeah, its ready. Come get it." Hopefully... And to prepare for that scenario, I loaded up some dummy rounds last weekend to test my barreled action in case of any feeding issues. I used 140 grn Sierra Gamekings. I set them to the max COL with the Sierra manual specifies as 3.150". The A-Square manual concours this. I have no loads for you using this bullet 'cause I have yet to have a finished product in hand. That will soon take care of itself and then I'll be up to my eyeballs in yet another stock project. I'll keep informed of my progress as perhaps it may help you. Jason Post Script: I have found the $25 Brownell's extractor pliers to be very helpful and well worth what I paid for them. Some guys are good at removing and replacing extractors with their fingers; I'm not one of them. These pliers took the work out of bolt work for me. Just some food for thought. PSS: I am also still playing with my new digital camera and thought I'd post some pics...
  19. Why, a story based on a Marvel action comic book my good man. Of course you do remember Marvel comic books don't you? They've been around for quite a while...
  20. I concour. Probably alright for the young 'uns too. The Incredibles wasn't bad either. Jason
  21. Flaco, I scanned your post and I wouldn't worry about it. I think there was a mis-communication and given a little time, everything aught to pass into memory without event. DT's right...they do put up with much more garbage over there from other regulars than anything you may have caused. As we are often given to saying in Texas, "it'll be aww-iight." Jason PS-Nice photograph. Taking good classy photographs of people is much more difficult than most assume. Good work!
  22. Does anyone see the irony in a "relatively" new terror group trying to scare the Brits into submission? These are the same people who've weathered much larger threats from nation-states bent on the total destruction of the English people. And the Brits have endured this for hundreds of years. Now the Islamic fundalmentalist movement thinks it will terrorize the Brits into submission? I think they're barking up the wrong tree. Our British cousins can be some pretty vicious people when need arises. Given the choice, I think they would be among the last people I'd want hot my trail with blood in their eyes and murder on their minds. The British have played this game for a very long time... Still, let us pray for God's speed in helping our friends across the pond route out this heathen mass and send them where they belong. I think popping that radical today was most definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully an inspiration for more to do the right thing when dealing with these animals.
  23. Strange, I'm trying to get in and they're dragging their feet. I can't imagine officer programs taking anymore effort to process than enlistment - its all paperwork? And on the subject of B-52's. Barksdale AFB is about an hour and half from me and one of my real good friends is an Air Force Reserve crew chief for one of those B-52's they have parked up there. Gentlemen, I assure you, the planes may be old, but they're in good hands! Jason
  24. This is a racist and discriminant policy. Last I recall, California did away with bilingual education for the flood of Mexicans immigrating from Mexico. If this is the case, how is it then that it right/moral/legal to treat little black kids differently? Don't Mexicans have the same rights? Ebonics is neither a form of English nor a new dialect - it is a form of slang. Slang is improper English and this school system is therefore cheating the children from recieving the best education available. If this school system is introducing slang as a way to "get through" to the children, I think the school systems here aught to "tawlk lieke I do" so they can get through to the children here. Funny though, as thick as my drawl is, I have never had trouble communicating to those around me. Ebonics speakers included... Ebonics is yet another form of reverse discrimination and I consider it stepping down to someone else's level and I reject this change. I sincerely hope none of these publicly trained ebonics speakers ever have business with me as I most certainly will not be speaking any ebonics during the exchange. Education is not fun. It is a lot of work. But then, life is a lot of work. And frankly, I see work spent on education as being proportional to the pay-off at the end. The sooner the youngsters of this country realize this, the better off we will be. Half-assing public school should not be rewarded. Karl, you sir are to be rewarded! Good teachers are damn hard to find these days. "Education is not the filling of a pale, but the lighting of a fire." Truer words have never been spoken... Jason
  25. Precisely what I'm after. Thank you. I'm fumbling around in the dark with this stock making stuff I'm doing right now. I figured I'd experiment with an oil soaked spare I had stored in a corner so I could glean some knowledge before I tackled the two store-bought semi-inlets I have on tap next. (Although I have worked on the 30-06 stock a bit, that was after I figured out how Mr. Rasp worked.) What the heck? It is ugly, but it does fit my montrous hand well enough. I'm going to see this one through just for kicks. Perhaps this will be the first stock I checker someday? I'm not out anything other than a few pleasant evenings and I've actually learned something. And I'm having fun. Fellows, I appreciate the advice. This entire rifle is a "parts" gun I'm putting together out of spare stuff I have while working on some skills and techniques. I have to start somewhere and hopefully I'll improve as I go along. Thank you all for your time and those very helpful photos. And as always, be frank! Thanks, Jason
