I've said it before and I'll say it again - global warming is a myth and a shakedown, pure and simple. The planet goes through climate cycles and mankind can in no way influence the heating or cooling of it. To think otherwise is hubris. If we were really serious about dealing with global warming, we would figure out how to stem exploding populations in developing countries. I think overpopulation does more harm than any of the steel mills or coal-fired powered we're running. But to think that we can somehow cool the planet off is laughable.

You might also talk to Gentry about installing it. I'v read reports online from several gunsmiths that installing this particular safety almost drove them batty. It might be worth the extra couple bucks to hire it done. You might also visit Brownell's website or call and speak with one of their techs on Monday. I'd bet one of their gunsmiths could point you in the right direction if you cannot come up with anything online this weekend.

No, its not a crazy idea. And it is possible...however... A fellow that posts here from time to time named Clark put one of these conversions together a couple years back using a Win 94 barrel he bought from Numrich GPC. I believe he was even able to get the sights to line up. However, what he found when he was done was he could not make it feed from the magazine at all and had a hard time making it extract and eject even after he'd spent a whole bunch of time tinkering with the bolt face. Looking at the Mosins that I own, short of milling out a new magazine, turning a new bolt head, and constructing a new magazine interrupter/extractor, I'm not sure the end result will work as well as what you started with. I hate to say it, but this may be one of those projects that sucks up a lot of time and energy but the results aren't there. I am not saying it can't be done though. If you are looking for a bolt action 30-30, I'd try and locate an old Savage. They're really neat old rifles. A couple things you might look doing with a Mosin are rebarreling it with an actual .311" diameter barrel (none of the current crop of surplus rifles' bore diameters are in spec) or rebarreling it with a .308" diameter barrel and cutting a long lead to allow shooting .311" bullets if you had to. Ruger did that with their Mini-30's and none of them were ever damaged that I recall. Either way would probably give 10X more accuracy than you have now. You may also relocate the bolt handle behind the rear bridge and fab up an over-the-bolt scope mount. There was a pretty article about that in SGN a year or so ago. I'd like to try it some day.

I will also say that I say our President's "comments" live on Fox as they were happening and I must say that I've never been that angry at a politician. He should've just kept his mouth shut. I mean really...wow.

Some Finnish Mosin Nagants used a .308" diameter bore. However, the general rule with Mosins is the bore will be .311" or larger. Load for mine using the same bullets I use in my Lee-Enfields. I recommend .311" bullets. Sierra Matchkings are most accurate in my 91/30.

Was the rifle doing this before you sent it off and have you spoken with your gunsmith about this? All I can think of would be to take the bolt completely apart and reassemble it. Maybe something was mis-aligned during reassembly after the work was performed.

Rice, JB Weld will probably work in a pinch, I would try something like Loctite first. If you cannot find Blackmax, use Acra-gel. That stuff is ridiculously strong. I've used it to glue all sorts of stuff together. Still, I've seen people like Duane Wiebe make reference to using Loctite to install sight bases. I'd start there.

Bob, Its quite possible. My family lived in Panola county back when Carthage was "the big city." Off topic, but why would you be passing through the Carthage area? And if Carthage, do you ever make it down as Appleby?

My father and great aunt collaborated a few years ago to compile my family's genealoy and it is sitting open on the desk in front of me right now. Apparently, my ancestry dates back to Nottingham, England in the 1500's. Later on, I had two ancestors that fought for the Confederacy. After the war, it looks like they all settled in or around Panola County, Texas. My great, great grandfather is buried 35 miles from my chair and I have visited his grave. Consider this: A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline. A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons / year. That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil. 5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's US consumption. And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl. So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million. How good a deal was that ??? They'll probably do a great job with health care though!!
