  1. I spent 32 winters in Alaska and I'm thinking more and more about warmer climates. But where? My priorities are first and foremost it must be a "Red State," friendly to gun owners.
  2. I'm hoping Biden goes directly from the white house to the big house.
  3. I wonder if people will ever realize just how badly the socialist / democrat parties have damaged the country?
  4. I was able to find factory ammo and starline brass. The brass looks just like 45 acp but 1/16 longer, although it is loaded to the same length as 45acp. It is also much stronger than standard 45 brass and not interchangeable. The new trigger, although sold as a "short trigger" is still longer than I like, so I ordered a GI surplus from Numrich.
  5. He would have a difficult time with that!
  6. Without ever firing the 45acp above, I picked up a "460 Rowland" kit from www.clarkcustomguns.com It's a drop in kit that increases a 45acp to near 44mag power. I also replaced the factory grip panels and got a shorter trigger. It shoots great and recoil is similar to a 357mag.
  7. I was going through some of my old gun photos and came across this one of K-Kale by Fritz. I don't recall if it was 8mm or one of the 6.5 sweede conversions that were popular 15 years ago. I just like the rifle and save the photo.
  8. I'm pretty much over it, I plan on returning to work on Monday. I stopped taking the Paxlovid last night. Made me feel like I was pooping porcupines'
  9. Wow that sold quick!
  10. I'm past most of the fever, chills, body aches, mostly soar throat and cough now but that's improving. I'm very tired due to cough keeping me awake but as I said, that's improving. They have me on Paxlovid. 2 pink, 1 white tablet, twice a day for 5 days. Also, I'm carefully watching my blood sugar, which I didn't do last time around.
  11. Coincidently, I became sick this past Friday and finally went to the clinic yesterday (monday) for what I thought was strep throat. Turns out I have covid again.
  12. I had covid in oct/nov 2021. It caused a severe spike in my blood sugar, which in turn caused 6th nerve palsy in my right eye. The various doctors I've seen all said they palsy would eventually go away but it has not. Since the covid I have also noticed a huge lack of ambition. I find it difficult to make myself do anything that is not absolutely necessary.
  13. I have read that the Norinco is a good candidate for this type of conversion. How can a Doctor and merchant mariner not be working? Have you had medical issues yourself or just taking time off from the rat race?
  14. I ordered my kit from https://clarkcustomguns.com/product/460-rowland-conversion-kit-for-1911/ They recommend against using "Filipino 1911's, other soft metal 1911's or aluminum 1911's." The Tisas has a forged steel frame and slide, so I'm going to give it a try.
  15. I've got two Mauser rifles and a 1911 pistol in the works. I have all the needed parts and tools for the rifles, including brass and components for the ammo. They are, or will be, a 416 Taylor and a 257 Roberts. Now I just need the time and ambition to put them together. I ordered a 460 Rowland kit for my new Tisas 1911. The kit includes a new barrel with compensator, guide rod and recoil spring. It should be a kitchen table conversion. The 460 Rowland raises the 1911 into the 44 mag power realm.
  16. Now that is the coolest thing I've seen in a while! I want a set!
  17. Latest GunBroker purchase Tisas (Turkey) Duty 45. Brand new with 2, 8 round Mec-gar mags, case and cleaning tools. $430 shipped to an ffl down the street. Forged receiver and slide, series 70 inners, ambidextrous safety.
  18. These days I keep practice to a minimum.
  19. Yup. You are right. I don't think the US should be involved in this Russia-Ukraine thing at all.
  20. Well that was a short but sweet love affair. Went to the range today, fired one, 8 round mag, accuracy was very good, especially considering I was mostly just checking for function, spent cases went to my right rear and I was able to find them all. Recoil was mild. However, I had 3 failures to completely cycle, I had to manually push the bolt closed on those 3. Does the gun just need to be broke in? Maybe, but I'll never know. I wont own a firearm that I don't completely trust. This one is for sale.
  21. I picked up the Desert Eagle from the FFL thursday evening. It is a massive piece of machinery. As heavy as it is, there is no doubt that 44 mag recoil will be a non-issue. I was going to try it out today but it's too cold out. (-17*)
  22. I should have this one in hand by the middle of the week.
