They do feel a little different but it didn't take long to get used to it, I didn't thin mine out a lot and bent it out a little at the end for leverage. I'll try to clean it up a little over the next couple of days so it looks good,enough to post a picture,it's well a wrench. I've got a couple of irons in the fire right now (one an 88 also I'm trying to restore and one I still have'nt decided on the plan for yet) This bolt is for an M44 someone else's post on here got me hot to do, check out the mosin posts really nice work, I just think the butter knife goes well with the split bridge the design and operation is close enough to the 88(other than that damn sleeve to attach the action screw to) to get some ideas. Check out Steve Wagners site the info for the mosin would be a good starting point, his Bolt is threaded but the bridge clearing info is interesting, Did you ever think of using an old wrench for a butter knife handle another cheap option that would look cool.

I've done some projects that people with more experience questioned, , and I appreciate the questioning it got me to look for answers to questions I could'nt come up with myself, so i'm not trying to change your mind. but for these why not use a turk kkale 8mm barrel, it needs to be modified a little to fit but will correct the diameter issues and make a good, unique, cheap, brush gun. Now if we can find some bolt faces we'll be on a roll. Roy

I bead blasted a a polished receiver and barrel with aluminum oxide 320 grit than hit it with perma blue and its pretty damn close to the rem take-offs

I have one on the side for my next project, I hope it comes out half as good. Great work, Roy

a standard mauser 98 barrel works fine in the m48 action

The m48 handles 30-06 pretty well also, with just a little file work on the magazine, I have put over 100 rds through mine without any type of failure to feed. Go through some of the older posts there is alot of great info here. Roy

Thanks R. this will be my first pistol. I included the compliance info for DT just in case he will be doing a rifle. The first rifle I did I didn't know how many suppliers for the compliance parts were out there and ended up paying too much for parts that didn't look authentic, some of the cheaper guys out there's parts are pretty damn close to the originals and quality is nice. I'm still going to do one in .308 but I have one rifle that is "experimental" that I have to wait until I head up to my cabin in New York to test, next week. I don't want another one that has to sit for months until I go up again.

Sonic is right, I can use any parts even from a rifle to make a pistol as long as I make the receiver , I am going to stamp it pistol just to be safe though even though its not required. also there cant be a way to attach a stock or a forward pistol grip on it. DT these are fun, just check out some of the ak boards to get compliance info, for one with a muzzle brake you would need 6 us made compliance parts. PM me if you wanted any of the info mailed over. I may give this a go with the stamped kit, I aready decided to turn this one into a pistol, I made a sheetmetal receiver (home depot) and copied the rails but set the ejector back farther. I hope it will still eject the 7.62 russian. I bent it so the milled parts barrel trunion, rear trunnion are drilled and tapped in, I just need to fill the g3 size mag well back to normal

Uncle cautious, uncle carbuncle I am greatful for your concern, This is why I ask questions here there is a lot of experience with our members, I need to test this one , I will do it safely and check for any bulges in the barrel and use all of the info above (oiled cartridges checking inside of case and removing barrel and looking for setback) . I'll take both of your suggestions on this one, no actual data on wether the bolt or trunion will take the pressure, and the barrel does follow the contour of the case (reduces in thickness at the case mouth) a little too close for me. I guess I'll be doing an AK pistol out of this one. (it is a dark bore yugo milled kit with a decent barrel) I just need to weld up the cut out for the g3 mag now. Thanks guys for the info

I probably worded it wrong but I meant how much steel should be left around the case in the chamber area after its reamed to withstand the pressure. Thanks, Roy

The 8mm yugos use the same bolt as the m70 yugos (what I'm using) the 308 galils use 2 lugs too. The yugo m70 lugs are a lot thicker than romanian ones

Does anybody have .308 semi barrel chamber dimensions available. I need a few dimensions to see if a yugo AK barrel has enough meat to rechamber to .308 Thanks in advance

I went out to the range out at french creek this morning trying to get there before anyone else to test it, But a ranger who was in the parking area walked over and said I could'nt fire it with a string on the range, I probably should have put the stock on it but if something does go wrong I don't want to destroy it, I already gave away the turk stock. I guess I'll have to wait until next month when I go up to my cabin to test it on my own land.

It came out pretty good, I will probably get another stock at some point, its big brother is behind it I havent been able to get out and test it, work has kept me pretty busy the last few weeks. I have 2 I'm in the middle of right now the 300 win turk and a 308 ak I'm converting from a milled yugo m70a 7.62x39 parts kit to use g3 mags with a home made modified receiver. as soon as I get a break from work, I'll post the test results from the 300.

Thats a good ideal I think the butter knife handles make these look like the old mannlichers looks good, I was thinking of using an old wrench, but I'm gonna try this. Thanks Roy

I was away over Easter and this is my first chance to look at the posts I have a plan in mind for testing. I will fire a box of ammo checking headspace and cases between every shot (all fred from a string) Would 20 rounds be enough of a test? I appreciate "uncle cautions'" concern. I do want to test it though and I am more than willing to post photos of everything, brass the primers and what ever else some one may think would give an indication of the test results for you gentlemen with more experience to take a look at.

I have not been able to find any info on someone who has actually rebarreled a turk to .300 win. just alot of debate and conversation. The rough work is done (bolt welded, rails opened ,face opened extractor opened, mag opened) everything need to be polished but it feeds and extracts fine. waiting on reamer, but barrel is on (700 rem take-off sonic threaded for me). First couple will most likely be from a string but what should I look for on the fired brass or the action and barrel?
