  1. Sorry, it don't look like that right now. The Boston part is right, but the Rockies are rockin'. fritz
  2. I had my house completely remodeled 11 years ago, tore out all the old wood siding (or covered it with hardboard siding where it was still solid) then my neighbor, who is a professional painter, painted everything, inside and out, with DeVoe paint. It has held up well. Now, I am considering having him repaint it, and he now uses Scherwin Williams paint exclusively. He paints houses for a living, so I trust him. BTW, we paint exterior with brushes. Rolling is only done on drywall inside. Brushes do the trim. I didn't know about that Sears/Scherwin Williams connection, but it makes sense. They sell a lot of paint. And have a lot of happy customers. fritz
  3. I have no doubt that the story told by Tinker is true, but I have heard stories from some friends that were their version of how they got their father to buy them their first rifle. The one that comes to mind is this one---My friend tells me that there was a crow sitting in a tree 300 yards from the house. His father told him that if he could hit the crow with the .22 he let him use, he could have the rifle. He says he hit the crow. With a .22 at 300 yards. Well, maybe it was not quite 300 yards, maybe not quite 200 yards. But he hit the crow and got the rifle. We have been friends all our lives, and far be it from me to question if it was true or not. I have come up with my share of tall tales myself. fritz
  4. "Welcome to the Rockies. -------------------- Mike McCabe - Licensed Firearms Manufacturer" I want to wish the Colorado Rockies the best in the next round of the playoffs, since the Astros are not there, I am for them. Anybody except Boston! BTW, I have nothing against the Diamondbacks. I think it is great that one of them will be in the World Series. fritz

  6. The Case-o-matic transmission was kinda a different bird. I never had one, but if they are like the Ford Select-o-matic, I wouldn't want one. For an operator's manual, try (ssbtractor.com), or do a google search using Case 630 tractor manuals. ssbtractor.com does offer manuals for this tractor, try their website and give them a call. fritz
  7. Dave, You are welcome on my spread anytime. And I might even be a good host to Karl, if he gives up the idea of turning my farm into a commune! fritz
  8. I don't care what they say, he is out there in the darkness, just waiting for his next prey---- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/fritz/chupacabra.jpg fritz
  9. How time flies. Today, 43 years ago, me and mrs fritz got married. It was a normal church wedding at the church we both attended. She was a Methodist, I was a Lutheran. We attended my church and have been Lutherans ever since. How times change. Today, many weddings are not held in a church. Today many marriages do not last 43 years. Today, many people do not have a church (because they have lost the faith in God that most everybody had 43 years ago.) Yes, time flies, time changes. Few things are the same today as they were 43 years ago. 43 years ago, LBJ was the president, taking over the office on Nov. 22, 1963 after the assination of JFK. LBJ was fighting an unpopular war in VietNam, and the draft was going full force. I eventually got sucked up into it in 1966 after me and mrs fritz had been married 2 years. But I just made a mistake, some things are still the same as they were 43 years ago. I am still happily married to mrs fritz, and this country is still fighting an unpopular war. So, while time flies, and is gone forever, some things remain. Some good, some bad. Nobody ever said life was perfect. I have had a good life, about as close to perfect as one can expect. But I remember the old times all too often. Maybe that is what keeps me going. Hoping you all have had as good a day as I have had today. Remembering the old times is sometimes good for the soul. fritz
  10. Tank water is from a hole in the ground. That is what we Texans call a tank, unlike the folks up north. My sister-in-law, a born and raised Texan from oil field and farm folks, married a fellow in Kansas. They visited us one time and she produced this glass bottle and said she needed to fill it with "tank" water. So I took her down to the tank and we filled it with the water that the cows drank (and schitt in). Then she took the bottle of tank water back to Kansas and showed her yankee friends what tank water is. They assumed it came from a metal container, and there was no such thing as a tank being a hole in the ground. She proved them wrong. fritz
  11. Single shot .22s bring back memories to this old man. My first real rifle was a Springfield bolt action single shot, the one where you cocked it by pulling the cocking knob (like the '03 military rifle had) back. It was a very safe design, and I never shot myself with it, or shoot a hole in the mattress like I did with a pump action. It was passed down to me (sorta, you know how those things go) from my dad. He shot a lot of hogs with it, using .22 shorts. That was the start of a long day of work---butchering a big fat hog and making cracklings and lard and soap out of the fat. mmm, I can still smell the aroma from that old iron kettle with all the fat boiling in it. And the aroma from the smokehouse with the bacon and the sausage being smoked after it was made and hung up. But, those days are gone now for me. I hope that you can bring just a bit of it back to your children and grandchildren, by giving them an old single shot .22. BTW, I still have the old rifle. fritz
  12. Jerry, My son, just like his daddy and his grandad, is a long tall Texan. We had a heckuva time finding pants to fit him---same reason they gave you, meskins wear big waist/short length pantaloons. And they catered to the meskins, even back in the 70's. You see, we have always had Mex down here. You North Texas boys should be glad that they did not invade you before now. We have a Halloween party planned again this year at the club. Two years ago I went as Pancho Villa, and won first place. But I do not look as much like Pancho Villa as many of the Mexican members do. Years ago, in a place way to the north, they could have won a masquerade party just by showing up. Now they are everywhere! fritz
  13. Jason is right. It will all depend on your district attorney---he is the one who will, or will not, prosecute you. I used to hear people in Texas say that their district attorney said it was OK to carry a pistol if they were transporting valuables (like the day's store receipts). Texas law at the time did not have any exemption for transporting valuables. You could be arrested the same as anyone else. But since the case would go to the district attorney who told you it was OK, then (if he was true to his word) you would not be prosecuted. The District Attorney is a powerful person. Here in Victoria, we elected a new DA last election. He has thrown out a lot of cases that the previous DA had filed, with the reason given that there was a lack of evidence when the previous DA went to court. He is catching hell for it, but he is right. A DA should not indict a person on mere opinion. There must be enough evidence to convict before going to court, or you are just wasting everybody's time. fritz
  14. AzRednek, Your post about Home Depot and Lowe's is right on. I have noticed the same thing here, only Lowe's came in before Home Depot. The thing about Home Depot is that about a year ago, their stock plumeted pretty badly, and they layed off a lot of people. That made the shortage of employees even worse. And they hired the cheapest labor they could get. The store in Victoria has only one checker most of the time (for a huge store), and she is black and is just putting in time. I believe a Mex could do a better job, but they went to work at Lowe's. As to your experience at Lowe's, a friend bought a lawnmower from them last week. They only had a few riders left (it has been a big mowing year), but they came up with an identical mower that was slightly used. Seems that they had taken it back in trade from a customer who bought a bigger model. How many chain stores would do that? Bottom line---he got the mower for $400 less than the new one just like it. It was just like new, because they had honored the customer's request to trade it back. And my friend got a good deal. At Lowe's. I doubt seriously if Home Depot would do that. When Home Depot opened here, it was just like your experience---many customers at first. Then the other shoe fell. Now they have a huge store with one checker and no customers. fritz
  15. That's a good one, in fact I posted it before I realized that it had already been posted. fritz
  16. "A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money. -G Gordon Liddy" I used to listen to Liddy on the radio in my tractor cab while plowing, planting. and cultivating. When my crop was ready to harvest, it didn't mean schitt if there was a liberal or a conservative in Washington----my yield was the same. Your mileage may differ. fritz
  17. Ken, If it were 19 degrees here in south Texas, I wouldn't even get out of bed, much less go hunting. I did get out of bed once to take a fellow out deer hunting under similar conditions---but I stayed in the truck with the heater on, and took a siesta. When I awoke, I spotted a nice buck down the sendero where I was parked, and shot him. My friend returned cold and empty-handed. I'm waiting on cooler weather to work on the house. It is too damned hot here now. fritz
  18. Above posts taken. Les' see----Jerry lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. AzRednek lives near Phoenix. Now, let us assume (that is sometimes a bad thing to do) but let us assume that it is true that the meskin illegals head for the bigger cities, with their open-arms policy to cheap labor. Now, assuming that the illegal meskins are concentrated in these markets, it is only logical that a big chain store like Home Depot would alter their marketing (is that what they call it?) in these areas where the illegal meskins congregate. Are you with me so far? Now let us assume that, even though the illegal meskin customers are not all they cater to, they decide to alter their marketing approach to only them. If nobody objects to having to get a sales clerk (have you ever found one in Home Depot?) to explain what a sign means in English---you will learn to read Mexican. Corporate America has already figured this out. Someone in their marketing (is that what they call it) department went to college (an American college) for four, or more, years to come up with a way to market their products to the public. I am not against education. I had a formal education totalling 14 years (and I did not flunk two years). But I am at a disadvantage to the marketing (is that what they call it?) empressarios that run the country today. So are you. fritz
  19. As a child of German parents (who settled here legally in 1893) I found the first grade in public school to be just fine. My teacher did not try to teach me in German, I was taught English same as the rest of the students. Hell, I already knew English, that was the language my parents spoke to me in. I guess if little Pedro or Maria had had only spanish spoken to them before going to school, they may have had a problem (a problem that was soon corrected by teaching them English). I graduated high school with a lot of Mexican descent students, and we all spoke the same language the entire 12 years. Never, in any day, did the language barrier (is that what it is called today?) have anything to do with anybody getting a good education. I will put the teaching given us in the 50's and 60's against the teaching of any school in America today-----and ask this question, "Are we better off"? Forget the education that countries like Japan give their children. I will admit that it is far better than we give our children. But what if Japan had a huge influx of Meskins into their school system? Do you think that they would teach them in spanish? fritz
  20. " Just Think What Hillary Could Do With This Tool" Yes, that is true. Remember the old saying, "What goes 'round, comes 'round"? But Bush can always blame any misuse of this tool on the Democrats (as he always does). fritz
  21. Thanks, fellows. I plan on being just as salty and grumpy this year as last year. Remember the movies "Grumpy Old Men"? That's me. As to rattlers, I killed my first one of the year the other day, ran him through the conditioner rolls of my hay cutter. Man, he flatter than a month old Coors. He was also much younger than me, he only had 4 rattles. Shame to kill something that young, ain't it? NAHHH! fritz
  22. One more year to go before I qualify for Medicare. Then I can get the supplements (A and that will cost less than what private health insurance costs. mrs fritz has two years to go before she qualifies for Medicare. If she should lose her job before then, we would only be able to survive if my well comes in (and the price of crude continues to rise). I wonder how many others are in my category in this country, only being able to get good health care because they have (or their spouse has) a good job? A job where their employer offers health care to them at a cost far less than the unemployed (or self-employed). Believe me, I have been there before. I know damned well what health care costs today. I don't know what the answer is, but there damned well sure needs something done to fix it. Maybe a little baling wire is better than nothing. Since when does "B" equal a smiley face? I guess without it would be Especially after you get the doctor's bill. fritz
  23. I know that hombre on the license. He rode with me in my fight against the corrupt government of Mexico. He was a very good soldier. He could knock a Federale out of the saddle at 400 paces, and that was just from his odor. He was also very good with a gun and a knife. I always wondered what became of Jose after we left Columbus, NM. We tried to take over the town, as part of our plan to take over the US, but we had to retreat back home. It is good to know that Jose (and his kids) have found a way to take America without a shot being fired. I would have prefered to do it by treaty, but whatever works is OK too. Pancho Villa
  24. "Be nice...fritz is gonna adopt him.. karl ' Not me, we already have plenty of them here. But Bush keeps ending us more. Please tell him to stop! fritz
  25. An accident like knocking the rear-view mirror off reminds me of something that happened to a Mexican friend. This was back when cars were not required to have turn signals, and you just stuck out your arm--straight out for a left turn, out and up for a right turn. This fellow was struck by a passing car as he was turning left, it tore off his rear fender and running board. When the officer arrived at the scene, he asked if the fellow had stuck his arm out to signal. He replied, "Hell, that guy tore off my fender and my running board, do you think I was crazy enough to stick out my arm for him to tear off too?" fritz
