  1. I want a side mount on my 91/30 hex what mount works? I know the Kalinka mounts sure look nice, but they are kinda expensive. Does a #1 Weaver work on a hex? If not what have you used? I want to be able to remove the scope on rainy days in the woods. Thanks.
  2. That is how I feel raising kids, lol.
  3. You can keep showing that one as often as you like, or any of the nice rifles you build. I think I even saw some stock blanks for sale on Ebay sitting on that table. Nice wood at that.
  4. I watched a hunt in Africa with Boddington and Steve Hornady last night. Hornady was using the new .375 Ruger. They said that it was a round that matched the .375 H&H but in a standard action. The Hornady site has ammo that is about 10fps slower than it with the 270 grn bullet. Ruger has a Hawkeye Magnum rifle chambered in the new round with a 20" barrel. I figured somebody here might be interested. I have not seen it discussed yet. I still dream about rifles, even though I have no projects going on.
  5. That is amazing! Looks like a bug one.
  6. I have been playing with numbers on here. I have been into ballistics from Winchester and Remington ammo fliers since I was about 12. Now with handloading I enjoy it even more. I thought someone else might enjoy it as well. http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/ballistics/traj/traj.html
  7. My Birchwood Casey bluing job on my Turk took a beating through use and a day of bear hunting in the pouring rain. I bought Oxpho Blue and went over it after cleaning it up and it looks better than it did when the BC job was new. It is easier to use and doesn't continue to stink like the other stuff.
  8. Well part of the requirements is soft point hunting loads. More development is in order, as are larger diameter bullets, and better brass.
  9. Mine was stiff too. I rounded the edge of the cocking piece a little to make it easier to operate. What do you experienced guys do?
  10. I tried what I have and had mixed results. The best group I shot was with Varget near max, 180grn Winchester sortpoint. I only loaded 3 rounds of each, but I shot a 1 1/2" 3 shot group with this load. The rest with RL15, H4895, and some with 165grn Remington PSP bullets were poor groups.
  11. It kinda looks like part of a kids story book. Boy would that be fun to watch happen in the backyard. I watched a bear about 200lbs climbing a few feet up a slanted tree and rolling down it backwards. When it noticed me it ran away like it was embarassed to be caught playing.
  12. With the bolt installed without the factory safety, opening and closing the bolt cocks it. Then it can be installed on the bolt with the bolt on the gun. I think that is how I installed mine. Somebody who has put many of these on will pipe in and be more helpful.
  13. Fantastic deer. A hearty congrats. I hope it is good luck to have a sported Mauser out for its first season. I have never had a crack at a buck that big.
  14. I have heard good things about how these powders meter. I am curious if any of you have any experience with them. I reload for 8x57, 7.62x54R, .30-30, .308. I am sure that .30/06 and 7-08 dies will appear on my bench one of these days. I am still in the new reloader wanting to try everything stage. My wife is under impressed.
  15. I am just getting started loading for my M-N. I have some RL15, and a smidge left of Varget and H4895. I am giving .308 180 grain bullets a try to start. I loaded 45grn of RL15 and was hitting about 16 inches low, compared to Wolf Gold. I haven't slugged the bore. The Silver Bear 203grn softpoints that I have had good results with mic at .309. I will probably wind up with some 180grn .310 Sierras if I need to, but I am 50miles from any type of store with components, and I have Winchester 180grn softpoints. Thanks
  16. I used the cut/bend/weld method. I recommend cutting it off and welding it, or welding a new one on. I would rather have a longer handle than I wound up with. It works, but I would not use the same method again.
  17. Every year we have ant problems. I buy diazanon crystals and shake them around the house, and mist them in with water. I then take a shovel and hunt for nests. I stick the shovel into the nest and administer a good sized dose of poison into it. Then I soak the works down with the hose. Seems to at least shut them down for a while.
  18. A good man that has lived his life as he saw fit. Godspeed Marine. See ya when I get there. Semper Fi
  19. Congratulations! I must live vicariously thru the lives of others for now, please send details.
  20. Nice guns. What is the designation on the first one. I like it.
  21. Drool! I am surprised not to have seen this type of rifle before in 8x57. I am a fan of it. I hope to get a chance to take a whitetail with it this fall. I know that 200grn Speers blow up coon, hope to try them on a bear and deer.
  22. Fantastic group! It sounds like quite a rifle, may we see a pic of it?
  23. Well I suppose it is a bad rap. After all there were Legionaires back then. They were probably at some African outpost when the Magino line fell.
  24. I am not surprised to hear that a French rifle shoots to the LEFT. I bet it is in good shape. I have heard that most of them were only dropped once.
