  1. I remember playing with braiding ropes a long time ago, possibly scouting. I remember a many rope braid we did. You might want to try it with para cord or small rope. Sometimes when you look at a diagram it makes little sense until you try your hand at it. Then the light comes on and you get it. I remember Bosuns Mates doing all manner of amazing things with ropes and braiding on ship. There may be some good info available related to Navy or sailing stuff. I look at a diagram of a new fishing knot and find myself not understanding it until I try.
  2. Congratulations on a healthy granddaughter. Some may think it silly to build a gun for a newborn, I do not. I can think how proud I would be to have a rifle built especially for me by my grandfather. I presently am now in a race against time and the checkbook to get a rifle built for my oldest daughter to hunt with this fall.
  3. Is a .416 Rigby bigger than a .416 Rem?
  4. She has definately made herself a target. She has used the most powerful weapon towards them, the truth. I doubt that they will swallow the truth without retaliation.
  5. I like that rifle. That stock really has some character.
  6. My prayers and condolences are with you.
  7. I believe in the saying "Never argue with a Fool, others cannot tell you apart", but sometimes still have to participate. If I hated it here as much as some of these whiners I would move. It is embarassing to read all of the tearshed in my union newsletters. If you believe what the world is about to come crashing down because a republican is in the Whitehouse.
  8. I believe here in Minnesota it is always ok to shoot crows if they are causing destruction. I believe that the attitude in my neck or the woods is they either are destroying something or about to. When I lived in AZ I accidently stepped on all of the smaller rattlers that I saw. Never encountered any too big. The smaller ones are rumored to be more dangerous as they have not developed venom control, and hit ya with everything they have.
  9. A Marine brother of mine lives in Kentucky. The state released something like 5000 of some kind of dwarf rattlesnakes in his area. They were endangered you know, can't have that. He said that his family is doing everything in their power to make them endangered again. Who could be so stupid as to do a thing like that, but do-gooders from the city. Up here in Minnesota it is the timberwolves. More city-kitty legislators protecting predators. Some of my family has hunting land about 60miles from Canada. Some years ago they were preparing for deer season, fixing stands and sighting in rifles. The game warden stopped in to see them. He was wet and ornery. He told them that if a timberwolf happened to die FROM ANY CAUSE on their land, to hang the radio collar in a tree. He said that he was tired of having to swim in blueberry swamps to find them. He cussed the wolves high and low and left. Why do we need timberwolves again??? I know that many were released in Idaho only to severely damage the elk population. We occasionally have wolves around here traveling solo. I have heard reports of several coyotes getting together and chasing them off.
  10. Is it still in Minnesota?
  11. My theory is look around the globe, where there is war and terrorism there are Muslims. The only places whee this might vary are places like the old USSR that is scattered and financially ruined. And even some of those new countries there have Muslim problems.
  12. I had always been led to believe that was how the Muslim religion worked. But to mention such things makes me insensative and closed minded. That was how it was explained to us on ship back in 1991 in the Persian Gulf, by an intelligent black Marine officer.

    Switch Barrel

I personally would rather have several rifles that I didn't take apart. Then I could shoot more than one at the range. Also there would be fewer variables, opportunities for less than desireable results. I don't mean to poop on your parade. It would be hard to let one of my children or a friend use a barrel to hunt/shoot with. I am also the guy that doesn't get QD sling swivels, I never remove a sling. I guess that is all part of the fun of messing with guns. We all do as we are so inclined. Different minds don't necessarily think alike.

    Tazer

I do know a guy that dropped himself in the kitchen with a dog shock collar. He said he thought he should see what the effects were like. NOT GOOD!
  15. Sounds like a good time to me! Add another project to the endless list that continually rolls around in my overactive mind.
  16. These are cool looking rifles. I wonder what .45WM is capable of in a rifle length barrel?
  17. I also have 3. My oldest 2 are girls. I live in an estrogen swimming pool and feel like I am drowning most of the time. Congrats, you are a lucky man.
  18. Maybe I am BUBBA, but I just used sandpaper and my dremel in the tight corners, and had very good results. I sanded to 600 grit. What would be the advantage of using a stone?
  19. You take care over there Rev! Thanks for the pics. Thanks for all you are doing. Please send more pics.
  20. I appreciate the idea of a cocking piece peep sight. My fear is that I would get to add to the beauty marks already on my face in using one of those, esp with it down due to using a scope. One not-thinking habitual bolt operation and I may find myself sitting in the Veteranarians office adding to my stitch count. I was already contemplating adding a safety extension (small bolt handle) in the notch of the cocking knob, as the weaver side mount fits very close to the receiver. I think that the safety being obstructed by the scope I could weld in a handy little extension to make it easier to use. I need to get working on one of these soon as CABIN FEVER is kicking my behind.
  21. I was thinking of a Duracoat camo job on one of these with a modified original stock. Does anyone have any hints on using Duracoat on wood? I was thinking I may dishwash the wood and seal it with some old epoxy that I have. I figure the Duracoat will not be stronger than what it is applied over. I see Williams makes a sight assembly with a ghost ring rear blade. I do not shoot a V notch rear sight well. But I want a side mount scope to go along with a barrel mounted rear sight. How do you figure compatable sight heights? I do not want to own stock in Williams sight blades. These guns are FUN. We all have fun blasting away with mine at summertime informal shoots.
  22. I am planning a project like this myself. I have an m38 with a scout mount from here http://www.crankyfarmer.com/mounts.html . I stripped the little screws and installed the mount with a roll pin. I never trusted them anyway. It is a good mount. They also have the ATI mount. I have seen scout mounts for as little as $11 but I do not know what they are like. This is the mount I plan on using on mine http://www.grafs.com/optics/product/16940 and these rings http://www.grafs.com/product/17055 .Another mount system http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=179 I have seen the ATI synthetic stock here, as well as scout mounts. I have never done business here. http://www.gungarage.com/mosinnagant.htm Here is a few sporter sites. http://makarov.com/cart/mosmount.htm http://www.gswagner.com/mosin-nagant/mnsporter.html http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/m...rifle/index.asp. Surplus rifle has several articles on them. They are mixed into their 20 or so pages of articles. Here is a Russian site that has a couple of interesting ones. http://www.hpbt.org/articles/ots.htm Good luck with your project.
  23. Thanks fellas. Z, what do you build now that you have one in every caliber? I'm just teasing. You have a bunch of big bores, which one is your favorite?
