  1. I just checked some alum flashing that I had that comes in about 1ft. wide rolls. It measured .008 thick. Then I measured a beer can and got .004. I didn't measure a gascheck yet for thickness. I'm wondering if the alum flashing is too soft and perhaps create galling. Come to think of it, I guess that's what they made bullet lube for. Spiris
  2. I was just made aware of this new round. http://www.hornady.com/images/2008_sell_sh...5_Creedmoor.pdf Spiris
  3. LL, there is some info on the 25 Ackley short Krag at the ammoguide site but the three loads were for TC single shots. If you are considering a rimmed build, there seems to be more info available for the 25/303 Brit and it's quite popular in Australia & New Zealand. Here's a pic of a 25-303 improved with original 303 case. I think it's called the 25 Epps. When used in a p-14 action, it really zips. Close to the 25-06. The weaker regular Enfield actions have to be loaded down quite a bit though. Spiris
  4. I have not tried it myself, but perhaps spinning a solvent-wet brass brush with an drill in a honing motion will remove it. Spiris
  5. I won't bid on items if they are hosing me on the shipping. I guess you didn't know though. Midway is offering a special on this sight for $59.95. Here's a link. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/...leitemid=716636 Spiris

    1936 Mexican Mauser

That is so crisp & clean looking and I especially like the simplicity of the bolt's line. Everything flows so well. What barrel is being used? Spiris
  7. For those of you who fortunately (or unfortunately) own Remington 5mm mag rimfire rifles, a new supply of ammo is currently available at J&G sales. Made by Aguila. http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/products_id/1837 Spiris
  8. How many rounds did it take to go bad after the mods? A barrel doesn't just go bad in a few rounds, especially if you're shooting the same loads that grouped acceptably before. I agree with Jimro that perhaps it's a bedding issue. Try messing with the guard screws with different tensions. Make sure your rear guard spacer is doing its job and not causing a deflection of the receiver. Mausers are notorious for shooting badly due to poorly fitting rear guard screws and spacers. Nothing to lose except a little time and ammo. Spiris
  9. It must have been a honor and privilege to talk to those Heros. We are loosing them at an alarming rate. Spiris
  10. Looks good. Let us know how well it shoots such as group size. Spiris
  11. I'm going to buck the trend here and recommend using one of your lever action rifles that I know that you have mentioned before. If it's wooded area, they are still relevant and a lot easier to carry than the mauser, if you're still hunting. If you hunt from a blind or stand, then anything will work. Spiris
  12. Thanks for posting that moving tribute. Spiris
  13. It's a shame that testimony will not be printed in any of the national papers. They WILL print the drivel emanating from the Godless anti-gunners decrying the lack of more stringent gun control laws. Spiris
  14. I don't know if it will fit, but I really doubt it, but then you never know without trying. The problem is the proprietary cases preclude other brands from interchanging. One solution is to get an external USB DVD burner. Several places have them. I shop at GEEKS.COM and they have some. Don't be afraid of refurbished units as they are generally run through factory tests. Another solution is to use a desktop type dvd burner that you may already have, with a usb adapter which are available for around $10. They will all get the job done. Spiris
  15. Damn computers! You may know about the info that I will list here, but it's all I could come up with for now. That model has a fairly small hard drive(20gig I believe) and perhaps the drive has more than one partition, making C: drive, the default, too small for the install. If you have a floppy drive, I believe that model came with one, I would run a boot floppy with fdisk and take a look at the partition(s). Correct the problem if you find one by following the fdisk menu. Then reformat off the floppy to FAT 32. XP likes to use NTFS format but will work fine with FAT32 and some of the older utility programs do not recognize the NTFS format. Maybe it will help and maybe not. The other OS's that did work have a much smaller footprint. The only other thing that I can think of is that you may have some bad hardware that XP is having a problem with but the linux install should pick that up. Spiris
  16. Thanks FC, I spent some time at the site listening to the different renditions of that classic, including the guitar, piano and violin and even accordion versions. Still amazing after 300 years. Spiris
  17. I thought that I would use this thread to put forth this crazy theory. Now that Obama appears to have the nomination pretty much locked up, perhaps Hillary will push to be on the ticket as vice president in behind the scenes activities of releasing her delegates to back Obama at the convention. If the Dems win the White House, knowing the past controversies of the Clintons, could Obama end up like Vincent Foster, giving Hill the Presidency? HMMMMM Spiris
  18. His velvety voice will live on in our memories and music collections. Spiris
  19. The information that I was able to garner indicate a 1 in 10 twist for the '03, the 1917 and the original Garand in 30'06. Spiris
  20. That's a sweet European style classic. Is that a standard length 23.5" barrel? Spiris
  21. Wonderful pictures, and life is good! Spiris
  22. It's only speculation on my part, but it makes sense to me that the early forties steel of the Husqvarna M38, under the control of the meticulous swedes must have been at least slightly better than the older models made at the turn of the century. Advances in steel technology and processes had to play a part over 40 years of production. But they are all sweet looking and useful. Spiris
  23. I built mine using a bench rest single shot follower from Sporter Express. I do not like running my ammo thru the magazine anyways. You only need one shot with an accurate 22-250. I use the 52 gr. A-Max in my 1in14 twist Remington barrel, and it is THE combo in this Mauser. Spiris
  24. Here's a link to some homemade Brown's gas generators (HHO) that can be utilized to supplement fuel mileage. Some of these are being sold commercially, mostly as informational packets for $50-$200 on the net right now. They simply run a line to one of the vacuum lines and depending upon your degree of sophistication such as buying map sensors designed for this, mileage estimates show an increase from 15-40 percent FROM WATER. You will see ads for the commercial ones on this site. The guy in the videos shows from a rather crude start to a more usable generator and he takes it step by step. It might interest some as it did me. http://www.mefeedia.com/user/support2/queue/ Spiris
