I see the latest poll which covered around 1300 people (probably the same bunch of liberals that they always choose) indicated that 81 percent say the country is headed in the wrong direction especially with the economy. Just what the hell direction do they want to go. The main problem as I see it, is the cost of energy that's driving the loss of jobs and foreclosures of homes and inflated cost of goods and services. OSAMA BIN LADEN said that he would destroy this country from the inside by economic means and the Arab countries now at around $110 dollars a barrel for oil and OUR OWN GLUTTONY is making it a reality. The oil companies are enjoying record profits and half the country drives around in 7-10 MPG SUV's. We need to implement a crash course in the production of Hydrogen producing fuel cells and vehicles utilizing the technology. Right now the major manufactures are only toying around with the concept on a small scale. I'm sure the oil companies do not want to see us filling our tanks with water and are reluctant to back anything like that. The ethanol deal is just a temporary joke on us. The farmers won't grow corn or other crops that they can't make money. It won't be long before you'll pay $5-$6 for a box of corn flakes for breakfast. And so it goes. OK, i'm done ranting for now. I agree with MorgansBoss that in my experience, free floating a sporter style stock resulted in better accuracy. Every one that I have is floated. The only exception is my Remington 541-T HB. That is factory original with the little bump in the barrel channel. It shoots the PMC moderator ammo into half inch groups at 80 yds. I understand that PMC stopped making ammo a while ago. I realize that my free floating a barrel was also coupled with handload development so I cannot validate that free floating alone was responsible for the improvement. An actual before and after sequence with several rifles shooting identical factory loads might shed some light on the question. I haven't checked, but tests may already exist on the NET, answering this question. Spiris

I believe they were called Corelite but now Fajen has their name on them. I find they are quite adequate for those on a budget. I cleaned up the mold lines in a few minutes. If you can afford it, I really like the Hogue overmolded stocks. They feel great in your hands and give you a sense of confidence. I have one on my Turk 22-250. Spiris Corelite

Anything is possible but there are dimensional differences in the 6.5x57 and the 7x57 besides the caliber. You might run into headspace problems because of those differences unless you create an initial false headspace with the 6.5 sizing die. I've listed ammoguide's dimensions for the two. I realize that you are doing this just to do it, but I'm sure you know it would be more sensible to have another 6.5x55, a ballistic twin. But then, I'm not always sensible at times. I was beginning to suspect that was the situation. Thanks for the pics. The headspace is good on the 03 turk action with the bolt that I got and I have fired it. I know it has turk crescent on the safety. A mixture of parts I guess. Thanks for clearing that up as I was wondering about the "teardrop" bolt that I did not have. An original Turk 03 bolt might be a little bit easier to find but not much. I did want to try to keep the 03 turk in original shape. I think that I'll use the good bolt in the 48. Thanks for the offer Z, but i'm not sure what you mean by the guide nubs. I have a shot of the bolt faces on my 03 turk and the yugo and they appear to be the same. The cocking pieces look different on the end, but that's all I can see that's different. I got a few more pics. Spiris

Thanks for your insight guys. I gave this a lot of thought after reading your posts and although I personally believe the metal failure was due to being dropped or someone whacking the bolt or being run over or some severe outside force being involved, I'll probably part out the rifle eventually. I should recoup the 50 bucks it cost. Like I said, the action is in beautiful condition with no pitting at all plus the bolt parts are worth quite a bit by themselves. I have the barrel threads soaking in Kroil and would like to see how hard it is to remove it. Just maybe I can run across a reasonable bolt body for it. I had thought about a 250 savage or 257 Roberts for this action. Thanks again, Spiris

This is a bolt from a yugo 48 u fix'em that I got from Century recently. With the scarcity of yugo bolts and bodies I plan to repair it by inserting my aluminum heatsink and using a layer of food wrap to isolate the threads from a thin layer of JBweld or something like it, that I'll form in the center of the valley to insulate. After it hardens, I can lay a few puddles of stick weld and grind as needed until I get it where I can graft a bolt handle in place. I want to avoid having to retap the bolts shroud threads. At least that's the plan. And yes, I will take precautions to protect the lugs and cocking slot surface. I do not have the original bolt piece that was broken off. I was able to insert my 03 turk bolt into the action, which is in beautiful shape, and it functioned ok, but the cocking piece is different. The barrel on the yugo is junk. Does anyone have a different solution, or recommendation that they might share? Here's a pic. Spiris

That is a vast improvement, DT. It sure paid off to do a little experimenting. I'm sure there are a lot of milsurps that people relegate to the closet because they will not shoot standard ammo well. But then, many of us that haunt this site are a little different. Spiris

Sorry z1r, I knew that some folks here were inquiring about Swede barrels and thought I would give a heads up. Probably will end up selling for $60-70 I'm guessing.

Thought that I would show my Mosin collection. The sporterized (oh my god, what have I done!) M44 is a pristine version with near perfect bore and metal. I fabricated the sleeve much like Steve Wagner shows on his site and cut it to accept the ATI front sight. I'm not really sold on the ATI sight, and I might modify the sleeve and reuse the original section of the front sight and pin it. The whole rifle is much lighter and quick handling. The laminated stock M44 is my latest acquisition. Pretty nice stock but the barrel on it looked as if it had not been cleaned since it was last used. A lot of green patches later shows a rough bore. I'll just have to take them both to the range and try them. I pulled some of the Albanian military ammo and dropped the charges by 4 grains to try. I also have some 180 grain Prvi Partizan boxer primed to try. I do plan to modify the bolt on the sporter with a dropped bolt and the safety ring. The Mosins are still a good buy right now but we all know they do not possess the artful lines of a Mauser. Spiris
