  1. Amazing story about an amazing man. Thanks Sailormilan2, for posting the interesting links. Spiris
  2. Nice utility rifle that will take care of business, congratulations to you and your son. Nice flag by the way. Spiris
  3. Absolutely true, we have seen many of the leftist news organizations remove their comment sections, and I personally do not do Facebook, or Twitter so many of those requiring membership are not accessible to me. I have been banned from the Huff Post for comments about the Obama administration that was less than complimentary, but completely true. Now we have to deal with another impostor, Hillary, for the next year coming to the elections, and it's important that the truth be known when we can discuss it. Spiris
  4. Here's a couple that I finished a few years ago, the first is a K.kale in a Corelite stock sporting a lightened Swede 8mm barrel, Bold trigger, and stainless Duracoat over parkerized metal. I have around $140 in it without the scope, but a lot of sweat equity in the metal prep. Test fired only. I reload all my center fire ammo. The second is a K.kale with a overmolded Hogue stock that I love, Bold trigger, Remington 24" in 22-250 using a singleshot follower, and is the most accurate rifle of the bunch with the loads that I have worked up. Matt black Duracoat over parkerized metal. All work performed by me in my shop, right down to the bolt handle, with Mueller scope. Spiris
  5. Certainly is a good deal. Are they marked K.Kale on the receiver ring? I have converted some K.Kale stamped receivers, and it worked out well. They all seem to have a good heat treat with no sign of set back. Made a 270 Win, 22-250 w/ a single shot follower and an 8mm with a Swedish light weight barrel. The 270 and 22-250 have Remington take off barrels that I turned down, fitted and cut the chamber and headspaced. I just had to fit the Swedish barrel and cut a new chamber and headspace. They all shoot great, and the 24" 22-250 is exceptional because I worked up loads using a-max bullets. I have one polished K.Kale action left and two Remington take off barrels in 243 and 30-06. I have 6mm-284 dies and a reamer but no ambition to build right now. Spiris
  6. I'm glad to hear that you're on the mend Karl, your posts often bring out a smile. Spiris

    Pope

Just what we needed, a liberal Pope spreading his political ideology. No wonder the Pope and Obama got along so well.
  8. I also believe that Jimmy Carter is basically a good man, and I admit that I voted for him when he became president, but have never voted for another democrat since. It was my first presidential vote and I learned a lot from that experience. Mr. Carter has lived a long and useful life, and I hope he can have a bit more worthwhile time, in spite of the fact that his political views are not mine. Spiris
  9. I love that floorplate, and the jeweling is superb, and the peep certainly is functional in a pinch. That's a great rifle, in a great caliber. Spiris
  10. I certainly agree with Dr. Hess, the projects can sometimes overwhelm and you find it tough to find time. I've built several rifles and they all shoot well and they look good too, but it's been a while since I have fired any of them. Been shooting my pistols. You can probably sell your action and stock parts, and cover much of the cost of the Ruger, or not. Then all you need to do is work up loads for the 243. Good luck with whatever you decide. Spiris
  11. Yes, very interesting. I love reading about unique talented people and their creations. Thank you!
  12. "Will a legal pot-head be prevented from buying a gun??" Not likely if his voting record passes muster. Spiris
  13. I'm thinking that a 405 Win may be possible, my only concern might be the 2.58" case length in a Mosin magazine. Spiris
  14. Very interesting video AzRedneck, thanks for posting. I remember back when the Turk 8mm ammo hit the market with stripper clips and bandoleers, @ $60 a thousand, and I got 2 cases. I sold a bunch and shot some, even broke some down for components. I'm hanging on to some full bandoleers for posterity. Spiris
  15. Without looking, I believe I still have 4 Rem 700 barrels left of some that I acquired over the last few years. a 24" 22-250 Rem, with camo paint, a 24" 243 Win, a 22" 270 Win, and a 22" 30-06. Some have sights, but I don't know without looking. All have great bores and no takeoff marks, IIRC. If anyone is interested, $20 each plus actual shipping for the 270 & 06 and $25 each plus actual shipping for the 22-250 & 243. I can get them out and see what ones have the Iron sights on them tomorrow. Spiris
  16. I'm old enough to remember many of his televised shows that brought a bit of home to the many service men and women, away during the holidays. "Thanks for the memories." Spiris
  17. Thanks guys, sometimes I'm my own worst enemy. Spiris
  18. Sorry for the multiple posts, it kept churning with no apparent results, so I kept clicking. Maybe someone can fix it? Spiris
  19. It seems that the ATF has halted the plans to ban the green tipped M855 5.56 ammo for now. I know that I sent an email opposing the ban. Small victories, and I don't even use that ammo. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/mar/10/atf-drops-proposed-ammo-ban/ Spiris
  20. Here are the regulations, and under Allowable Hunting Equipment, it appears to me to be a specific list under the heading of "Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers:" IMO, a 444 Marlin might be a workable project in a Mauser bolt rifle with it's semi-rimmed design, but the feed rails will likely need reworking. http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/hunting-trapping-and-shooting-sports/hunting-trapping-regulations/deer-hunting-regulations Spiris
  21. Here's a PDF file listed at the Ohio hunting regulations site that list the approved "straight walled" rifle cartridges used for hunting deer. Handguns require a minimum 5" barrel in .357 caliber or larger, using a straight walled case. http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/portals/wildlife/PDFs/hunting/Cartridges.pdf Spiris
  22. RHA, that's a seriously sweet build. Spiris
  23. This site, you might be familiar, has a Mauser ID section that shows dimensions that may help. It has to be something that you're overlooking. I didn't know that we were talking the intermediate length M48 action, but the protrusion dimension is the same as the M98. http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/mauser_reference.html Spiris
