  1. Deepest condolences Brenden, allow your faith to give you the strength to bind your sorrow, as life goes on. Spiris
  2. That's very good news. Congratulations, you certainly deserve it. Spiris
  3. For me, the Republican field does not contain a viable candidate, who is palatable. Ron Paul has some good ideas, but also has some kooky ones. Gingrich has strangely come out of the gate blasting Republican ideas, to place himself between obama and the ultra conservatives. He's a smart man, but has too many skeletons in the closet. Romney has the ghost of romneycare haunting him, among other issues. I keep waiting for someone who can rally this country back to the values that I hold dear, and who can create the job atmosphere necessary to overcome the damage the liberal socialists have caused. 4. I chose not to renew my C&R last February for several reasons, but mainly for the lack of good cheap Mausers anymore. Over the years, I've accumulated actions and barrels and other parts, to the point that I'm probably set for quite a while. I'll let the new generations of shooters and amateur gunsmiths have a crack at a great hobby. I learned a lot at this site, and although I don't visit here too often, it's still like coming home. 5. Yes, they have RH threads. Here's a link to the best info on the internet for Mosin Nagant. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinSpec.htm Spiris
  6. I'm twice divorced, and I say close the door, and consider yourself lucky. Spiris
  7. Here's data from Nosler's load site using the 250gr Accubond. http://www.nosler.com/Reloading-Data/9.3x62mm-Mauser-250-Grains.aspx You'll note that Nosler seems to favor faster burning powders in the 9.3x62. IMO, the data available at manufacturer's/distributor's online load site are the newest, up to date information available, and I use the printed manuals for reference only as a cross check. Spiris
  8. I believe that collective bargaining for public employees needs to be restructured to ease the burden faced by the taxpayers in states facing budget shortfalls. States with right-to-work laws and constitutionally established RTW rules, seem to suffer less budget problems than states locked into union collective bargaining. There will be a push in those states to lean more in the direction of right-to-work based rules, to cut budgets, instead of raising taxes. Union workers need to realize that their salaries far exceed the average worker's private sector wages, not to mention the people on fixed incomes from social security and disability, who have not seen a COLA increase going on three years. The unions need to bite the bullet, and perhaps we need all the states in the country to become right-to-work states. We need a concerted effort to elect a president in 2012, who will listen to the silent majority, and who will allow our oil companies to drill, baby, drill. Spiris
  9. Check the leade for fouling build up that may be impeding the reamer's pilot, or maybe it's just a tight pilot or barrel. I've not run into a hard chamber myself as I have not reamed that many chambers, but anything is possible. You just need to be careful when you are that close to fitting. Spiris
  10. The biggest Grinch is headed to Hawaii on our dollar, so you can relax a bit, just remain vigilant. Sorry to hear of your balky safe problem, things like that happen at the worst time it seems. I like a safe with a good fire rating, because you never know. Merry Christmas! Spiris
  11. I'm sure it will be your dad's favorite rifle, and it will be a great Christmas. Nicely done. Spiris
  12. A Fox poll indicated that 29% now believe that obama will be re-elected. And many Hollywood liberals have made it known that they will not vote for obama again. H. reid has pulled the 1.1 Trillion dollar omnibus bill from consideration this evening, and wants to work with Republicans to keep the government going. What will tomorrow bring? Spiris
  13. I have my FN Mauser in 308 Norma Mag that came with that style alloy trigger guard with the cast antelope. It's a bit light duty, but functional. I have no plans to use it for anything but an occasional range session, as it's one of my "pretty" rifles. I don't have a shot of the bottom metal. Spiris
  14. Those times will make wonderful memories. Congratulations on the successful hunt. Spiris
  15. I would like to interject my thoughts on the subject. Around 5 years ago or so, I decided to get into fabricating my own firearms when loads of Turkish Mausers hit the market. I did a bunch of research on equipment needs after buying and trading for several decent Turk rifles. This MFRC site provided a bunch of information after joining and I picked the brains of several machine savvy members here. I had machine shop experience, but little actual lathe experience. My limited funds caused me to consider a mini-lathe for reworking Remington take-off barrels to fit the Turk's Large ring/small thread actions. I bought a Cummins mini 7x12, and with a steady rest and live center and a good bit of patience, I started my adventure into amateur gunsmithing. I added a 4" chuck, and was able to rethread some Rem barrels that I bought on ebay, back when they still sold them. And yes, it was a tight fit on the 7x12, but once I developed a technique, it served my intentions very well. You'll find that common sense and a mini-lathe can do a lot of work for you, but they do have limitations. Here's a link to a nice mini and some good information. http://littlemachineshop.com/4100 Spiris
  16. I've had a 17HMR for a few years now, and it's quite accurate, but I've stopped shooting it. HMR ammo was $6.95 when it came out, now it's around $12-$15 a box. I can load 50rds of my 222-223 ammo for close to that, and they are longer range and as accurate. I found that the 17gr Hornady was much more accurate than the heavier jacketed 20gr TNT round out of my NEF Sportster heavy barrel. Spiris
  17. Those are nice basic usable calibers that you chose, and you will enjoy them. I don't have the patience to fully inlet stocks, but I do tune my stocks by floating the barrel and glass bedding the action. I'm not a big fan of muzzle brakes on '06 based cases, because of the redirected blast, but to each their own. It would be great if you could post pictures after you complete your rifles. Spiris
  18. Is there any way to offset the drill jig, front to back, to miss the old holes? How much off are we talking here? I've heard that some epoxy heat softened screws into the holes and clip them close and file down after allowing proper dry time. Then D&T. I've also heard that a quick tig weld of screws in the holes will do it, but I would be concerned about any damage to the heat treat in the front ring. Perhaps someone with more expertise can advise. 19. Some 50 years ago, I was 15 and I had most of my summer money from working on the farm. I was a gun nut even then, but I was not yet into reloading, and had a Stevens in 22 Hornet and I was ready to move up to a a more powerful rifle. The local gun dealer that my buddy and I frequented, had a Remington 1917 in 300 H&H mag and I walked out with it and a box of ammo after trading my Hornet and a bunch of cash for it. The short story is that I shot that box of 300 H&H ammo and decided that I didn't really care for the cost of that ammo, so I went back to the dealer and swapped it for another 1917 Remington in 30'06. And I could buy a bucket of surplus ammo without breaking the bank. We put a dent in the woodchuck population that year. I kept that '06 and learned to reload the next year, because my buddy on the same back road, had a 270 Win in a 1917 Winchester and we bought some Herter's equipment and learned to reload together. Those were good times. Spiris
  20. Absolutely a nice doe and a great shot. I enjoyed the story of the "5 minute hunt". Spiris
  21. A beautiful day, a great deer, and a lovely daughter who likes hunting. You are truly blessed scott63. Life is good. Spiris
  22. I thought that I would chime in here, seeing that I reload 410 on my Mec 600JR and occasionally some 20ga on an old Lee load-all. I shoot a lot of 410 at clay targets, and reloading is the only way to beat the $10-15 a box that stores charge. I use Claybuster wads that emulate the major brands at half the cost. I like to use Win AA hulls but they are quite expensive of late, and now I'm using Rem black and green hulls and they also last quite a few loadings with good crimps. They load the same as the STS Remington hulls. For the larger 12ga-16ga-20ga, there are some new powders that are economical and very clean burning. They also give good velocity and lower pressures than some of the old standards. As mentioned, loads for shotshells are available at www.alliantpowder.com, www.hodgdon.com, who are the main powder manufacturer/distributors. The Lyman shotshell manual is always good to have too. Ebay is still a good place to get new/used manuals and they still handle shotshell loaders also. Spiris
  23. My deepest condolences for your terrible loss, swamprat. We ask why, but there is no answer, we just have to trust in the infinite wisdom of the Lord. Spiris
  24. What caliber were you contemplating? I wouldn't go longer than 12" with pad at this stage. He'll be crawling up the stock for scope focus. Spiris
  25. Karl, here's the beep code for your problem computer. I hope it helps. I'm not sure if 2 beeps may actually indicate a bad power supply or not. I have an ATX power supply tester that tests output. I got it from the GEEKS site for $10 a few years ago and it's paid for itself many times over. Pre-boot Diagnostic Codes 1 Beep, Processor fault 1. Check that processor and heatsink are properly installed. 2 Beeps, Power supply overload (crowbar) 1. Disconnect all external devices and restart the computer. If the computer starts correctly, add devices one-at-a-time until the overload situation is achieved and the faulty device is identified. 3 Beeps, Memory error 1. Verify that memory modules are properly installed in the computer. 4 Beeps, Graphics solution error Replace the system board. 5 Beeps, Plug and Play initialization error Replace the system board. 6 Beeps, BIOS corrupt. Reflash BIOS Reflash the BIOS. 7 Beeps, Bad system board Replace the system board. Spiris
