<p>Wish I could remember the brand name of that ammo.  I did print out a picture years ago for my RSO's and to alert shooters at the range about the tracers. If I find it I'll post the picture here.</p>

It was a disaster with the .223 ammo in the mid-2000's. Case head separations, buckled cases, actually seen some that had started deform from heat. It was around long enough for us RSO's to caution shooters not to use it in AR's , total crap. And they had some that was tracer in a red case, which was a big No No at the Range.

Yes you can polish the chambers. However I use caution on using a dremel unless you can vary the speed down a lot. A cordless drill at low speed and your felt polishing cone with some JB bore polish is all you need. A little at a time and SLOW speed, do not go beyond the chamber itself and get into the throat.

I just did 1K of 9mm brass the other day in the ultrasonic, far more than I wanted to FL size on my single stage press. Now I'll take my time loading a couple of hundred at a time.

I still use my tumbler when I'm not in a hurry, I use the ultrasonic more for parts cleaning on firearms in the shop. It does wonders on AR BC's and dirty pistols.

Been doing this for a lonnnnnggggg time, I mix 50/50 corn cob and walnut, add Frankfort arsenal brass cleaner, a cut up dryer sheet, Bounce, whatever and let the tumbler run.

The dryer sheet picks up the dirt and static.

But by far the best of the best is the ultrasonic cleaners. Decap/full length size and throw them into the cleaner and 30 minutes later-----Like new cases, rinse, dry and reload.

Just my 2 cents worth.

If you really want to try something try using 9 to 1 mix of MPRO-7 and water and put a pistol barrel in an ultrasonic cleaner. It really works great. I just picked up one of the Hornady case cleaners for the work bench, small and cheap, and will do a 1911 in pieces. Sure beats scrubbing.

Ain't MPRO-7 great stuff. I've been using it for 6-7 years in my shop and it's really a time saver. Their bore gel is great also, the copper solvent not so much. If you want to get to bare metal use Sweets 7.62 and MPRO-7 and it will clean all the way down.

I have decided to give blueing one more try. It is a barreled action that I will be working on. I have it pretty much sanded down to bare metal and will work this weekend on getting it polished up to 800 grit. This time I am going to heat the metal with in boiling water to get the temp up to 200+ and then apply the blue. We'll see what happens.

I'm about 20 miles North of Ottawa. Have my own small gunsmithing business at the home. About the only guy around here doing any work on firearms anymore. Not real busy this winter so I've been trying to get some of my own stuff done.

800 will show any imperfection up and if you are not doing a Dicropan blue 200F is to hot. Stay around 100-150F with cold blues like Oxpho and you'll be fine. If it doesn't work out let me know and we can go to Plan B.

Brownells sells a nickel stripper that is easy to use at room temp. Trouble is when you are done you have a bunch left over. I have used it to strip a S&W Mod 10 and it did a great job.

Be careful with hydrochloric acid on heat treated steel it will cause hydrogen enbrittlement. This is very small cracks in the steel that can and will widen. We would see this on motorcycle final drive chains when the owner would get the overflow tube to close to the chain, net result broken chain before very long. i've also see it happen on stamping die components after the owners son cleaned the rust from the wire EDM off with a mild solution of hydrochloric acid. Be carefull!!!

Here's one for ya. On the 14th of Dec. went in at 5am for surgery, surgery at 8am, in the hospital room at 2pm. Next morning at 8am Dr. says you're going home, home by1pm on the 15th of Dec.

They removed 2 discs at C6-7 and at C5-6, put in plasic implants and a titanium plate and 6 screws. I've still got some soreness in my right shoulder, but therapy is taking some of that away. I lost 30-40% of the strength in my left arm before surgery which may or may not come back. Still have to wear this neck brace for 5 more weeks. Yes times have changed and all for the better now, no more long hospital stays, I think they found that you heal better at home.

It sounds like that one shot was worth the price. You hang in there and keep plugging along, the advances in Cancer therapy are great. I just wish they were better before, I lost a lot of good people to the big C, HANG IN.

In my days with the DOE, I worked on the Neutron Therapy treatment facility @ Fermilab and on the Proton Therapy accelerator for Loma Linda Medical Center in CA. Both do a fine job and have helped a lot of folks, and I'm glad to have been part of the team. They are in the talking stage about putting in a Proton center here in Northern IL. and I've volunteered to come in without pay to help in any way I can with the construction. If it saves one person that will be pay enough for me.

The method I have used for years with Mausers is simple and has worked well for me.

On the bottom of the receiver find the witness mark.

Install the barrel hand tight, and make a mark 1/8" on the barrel before the witness mark.

Now torque till the two line up.

This gives you about 50-60 Foot Pounds of torque.

I recently re-barreled 2 Swede Mausers with new Swedish Military barrels that were finish chambered. Both headspaced exactly on the Go gauge using this method.

The man I learned engraving from taught me this in 69-70, he learned this in Germany.

Yeah, I marched my sorry old tired butt off to work today. Then I marched 40# cast Iron castings from the pallet to the machine and back again. That's enough marching for today, enough for 57 year old legs and back anyway.

I do agree with some of you guys, everyone should be treated equal, but sometimes it's hard to do that.

If necessary do check into the Proton therapy. it does work and works well.

We designed and built the complete unit for Loma Linda back in the late 80's early 90's. The set up was far better than our Neutron therapy unit at Fermilab, and our unit was very good then and now. The treatment with Protons is very specific in location and accuracy, without being damaging to surrounding tissue. We at Fermilab were proud to be able to do this kind research and fabrication to better others lives, we put every bit of our energy it to the project.

The tooling is available from Brownells for cutting muzzle crowns, they also have laps to finish lap the crown. It's not cheap, the crown cutters are piloted to the bore. They will get you to within .001" of concentricity with the bore if you are careful. You can also get the lapping compound there, or McMaster-Carr has it.

I used Brownells Nickel stripper about two months ago on a Colt and it worked great. Takes about 3-4 hours to work if you follow the directions, and it stinks, but it does work. If it's chrome you will have to have it commercially stripped, there really is no other way to totally strip chrome, buffing does not work, and niether does sand blasting.

My Du-lite tanks are 6"W X 9" deep X 40" long, that gives me enough room to prevent boil over. I set the Chemical at 3" down from the top of the tanks. There was only one time I wished that they were longer, that's when I tried to re-blue my Vetterli, they were about 6-8" to short. Ended up cold bluing the rifle. Check with Du-Lite on their chemicals, pretty reasonable and last a lonnnng time. They supply a whole host of different manufactures. I'm very happy with my set up in the shop, I've had it in place since 2/03 and just replaced the bluing chemical this month, can't remember how many rifles and handguns I've done, but it's a lot.

The very best of luck in what you are doing. I will miss the flatulent chickens posts around here, but I know what it's like to be swamped with projects,work and homelife. Pay close attention to the homelife portion, that's is really what counts.

Nice looking kids, looked like they were having a good time. Of course now I'm jealous after seeing the pictures and knowing that I am unable to go out to the Black Hills this year. The wife and I have had some enjoyable times in that area with the bikes. We had the donkeys sticking their heads in the window of the truck the last time we were out there, fed them dog treats, our Akita was not happy with that. Our hunting group passes through there everytime we go out hunting in Wyoming, always stop at Wall and give them our left over money. Good Times!!
