  1. Thanks AZ. The rifle that I'm loading for is a Venezuelan FN 24/30 Carbine with a 17.63" barrel. This being a 98 action I could use full power loads, but with the short barrel the muzzle blast is horendous. What powders would best? Would a faster powder be better? Opinions? Bob
  2. Hey guys, Do any of you have any loads or load data for 7x57 using the Sierra 175 gr. game king bullet. I am looking for data using IMR 4007SS powder.I also have IMR 4064, AA3100. I need to update my reloading manuals, they are getting out dated. Thanks Bob
  3. As to my previous post,I said that the revolver was a Colt Commander. It should have read Colt Commando. According to "Colt An American Ledgend" byR. L. Wilson, the Commando is identical to the Colt Offical Police with a few exceptions. The Commando was designed during WWII for the US government. It was allocated to Police departments, guards of factories serving the war effort, and other nonmilitary functionaries. The Commando was refind downward to increase production. Only 50,617 were made, starting with serial no. 1. It has a dull parkerized finish with Coltwood grips. All were 38 special. Aother variation is the Marshal. This is some information I found if anyone is interested. Bob
  4. We survived the ice storm up here in KY ok. No power from Wensday 5 am til sometime Friday while at work. Some people are still without power. Lots of trees down in my area, but not in my yard. There are several large pines on the other side of the fence that were damaged though. I hope that everyone is ok. Bob
  5. A friend of mine's mother in law has a Colt Commander revolver, 38 Special. It looks similar to a Colt Police Positive. I did a search for Colt Commander and the only thing I found is a semi-auto pistol. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Thanks' Bob
  6. Most people around here would be better off to chain said vechile to a large tree........................ Bob
  7. Not us Kentuckians are that stupid. Bob
  8. Good luck SS. I go see a surgeon about my left shoulder next week. Speedy recovery. Bob
  9. Littlecanoe, I'm sorry that I didn't reply sooner as I have been on vacation. I think that the castoff will fit me good. I'm looking for the proper fit without having to shift the rifle around to get a good sight picture. The castoff will also give me more meat on the check piece for a good check weld. I've started inletting the fore end. I thinking of doing an ebony fore end tip. By the way I just got home from the National Gun day show. It was disapointing to say the least. Bob
  10. Hi guys. here are some updated pics of the Ruger no. 1 butt plate installation.
  11. Littlecanoe. what is the name of your stock making and who is the author?
  12. Clemson. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've never done a Niedner style plate. Any advice? Bob
  13. Hi guys. I need some opinions. I'm installing a Niedner style butt plate on my Ruger No.1. does the line on the photo look right or is the angle too much. Any help will be appricated. Thanks Bob DSC01546.zip
  14. Thanks Z1r. I am contemplating doing an octagon barrel. I'm really not sure where to start. Are you doing a half octagon half round barrel? What tapper are you going to use? My main concern is warping the barrel. Most of the time when you remove material from one side of a work piece it warps. Do you work around the barrel or do opposite sides? Does the barrel need to be stress relieved after machining? I can probably think of a million questions, but will stop for now. Thanks, Bob
  15. Hey Z1r. How about an update on that octagan barrel project. Bob
  16. Phil, Try Great American Gunstock. I have had good luck with. I usually get what I order within one week if it's in stock www.greatamericangunstock.com Bob
  17. The type of solder dependes largely on the type of bluing you intend to use. With soft solder you are limited to rust blue or cold blue. Bob
  18. Sonic1, I'm thinking that the action will fit ok,but the barrel channel may be diffrent. Bob
  19. Hi guys. Have any of you done touch rust bluing? Can it be done? I have a Mauser sporter that was done in Germany after WWII that someone drilled and tapped for a side scope mount. It looks like they deburred the holes with emery cloth then left bright. I would like to touch up this area with rust blue to match without doing the whole action. Or would I be better off to use cold blue. Opinions needed. Thanks Bob
