  1. Hi guys. Let me see if I can clarify my question. I would like to see some kind of an indication of when a subject has been added to the archive. When I scan down the archives, I see the date of the original post, but no indication of when it was added. Thanks, Bob
  2. Igorrock, That's a nice looking rifle but what I really want to see is the trigger conversion. Thanks. Bob
  3. How about some pics of your gunsmith conversion.
  4. To the moderaters, Would it be possible to add the date that the update was done to the listing,so that we would know when that topic is updated? Sounds confusing. I hope you know what I'm trying to say. Thanks, Bob
  5. Well, I guess that defines me as an Angry White Man. Bob
  6. Tinkerfive, Try it with a new or diffrent extractor to see if it fixes the problem.
  7. Walnut. I am using Minwax's Antique Oil Finish. This is the first time I have used this finish. So far I like it,. It dries fast and seems to be fairly hard. I have been using an old tooth brush to keep as much finish as possible out of the checkering and the carving. I may not have to recut the checkering at all. So far it looks pretty good. I have threee coats on now. The next step is to wet sand with 600 Grit wet and dry. I will use a 50/50 mixture of the finish and mineral spirits. Wish me luck. Bob
  8. Thanks for all of your help and advise. I'm not quite done with the refinishing yet. Will order a viener and a single cutter. Can you post some pics of your checkering cradles. Thanks again, Bob
  9. Kenak2, Thanks for the offer to lend me your guages. I will let you know when I'm ready. Thanks, Bob
  10. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL. Bob
  11. Kernak2, Did you ever find a solution to your 45/70 project? I am doing a 45/70 on a Siamese action too. I have the reamer but still need headspace guages. If you would like to sell your gauges when you are done let me know. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Bob
  12. Hi all. Has anyone done any recheckering? I'm restoring a post war German sporter. The stock had been shallached over the original oil finish, and looked like hell. The only thing to do was to strip the stock and refinish it. The stock was checkered in the European style (flat diamonds). I am wondering what tools I will need too do this job. Your wisdom is needed and appreciated. Thanks, Bob
  13. Nice work Don. I did a lever similar the Meier lever with a couple of differences. For the screw part of the lever I plunged into the key stock with a .187 end mill about .200 deep, then silver soldered a 10-32 socket head screw with the head removed. As for making the bushing for the floor plate, I welded up the hole and drilled a new 3/16 hole. I locate the hole with a transfer punch through the trigger guard from the inside. Bob
  14. Update. Recieved the Wolff spring kit yesterdy and installed it today. The sear/mag catch pin is a pain. The hammer spring is no picinic either. Next step, range session. Will give report later. Thanks for all of your help. Bob
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. The magizine lip and the catch don't look to be worn. The blue is still there. I think I'll order the Wolf kit and try it. To see what happens. Thanks, Bob
  16. I was thinking of installing the Wolf spring kit but I think it comes with a reduced pressure trigger/magizine catch spring. Has anyone had any experience with the Wolf kit?
  17. Has anyone had any trouble with tha magizine dropping open while firing thier SKS? Mine is a Nirenco with the original magizine. Do you think that the mag catch spring has weakened? Any ideas for a fix? Thanks, Bob

    Bone Black

Hi, everyone. I'm getting ready to refinish a rifle stock and was thinking of using bone black to fill the pores of the wood. Has anyone done this? Did you like to effect? Is it a pain to do? Thoughts? Thanks Bob
  19. Hi, If your barrel will only screw on part of the way, try some lapping compound on the threads. If you don't have lapping compound valve gringing compound will do the same thing. Preiodically wash out the compound and check the fit as you can make it too loose of a fit.
  20. Hi all. I'll second the "None of the above" vote. I think they all suck.
  21. I once saw a 96 Swede at a gun show that was chambered in 7mm Mag. It looked good and the price wasn't bad, but I wouldn't touch it.......... I saw that rifle at several shows, no one would buy it. I'll stick to 6.5x55 in my swedes. Bob
  22. Very interesting. I only missed 1.
