  1. Thank you for your replies. Let me see if I can explain what I'm looking for a little better. I don't want just a plain grip cap I want something CUSTOM. I know I need to thin the edges down to about half of what they are now. I have a piece of 99.9% silver, maybe inlet a diamond or something into the face. Or maybe a piece of ivory, I don't know. How about some ideas.

  2. I cut my barrel threads at 55 degrees. Just grind the tool bit to 55 degrees and change the compound angle to 27 1/2 degrees. The tighter the threads are the better the alignment of the barrel. I try to get the threads tight enough that the barrel stops short of contaction the front of the ring. If you buy prethreaded barrels you have no choice.

  3. Thanks Swamprat. I think this revolver will rate VG after I fix it. I don't think it has been fired much. I wish he still had the box. The blue is perfect except for a light ring around the cylinder. Does the blue book say how many where produced?

    Thanks,

  4. A friend of mine asked me to look at a Ruger Blackhawk that he is thinking of buying. It is a Limited production Blackhawk made for a Buckeye Sports Supply. Caliber 32/20, 32 H&R magnum. Production started in March 1989 til ?.

The gun would not cock. The hammer would only come back a little. The paw would not drop for the cylinder to turn. Upon disassembly I discovered that the hammer plunger was bent. After driving out the retainer pin and pulling out the plunger I discovered that the plunger spring had rusted away. I ordered the parts to fix the problem.

Does anyone know the value of this "limited production" revolver?

    Thanks,

  5. Hi all.

Gun nutty, you mentioned that you had a rfile in a Gibbs cartridge in another post ( didn't want to steal someone elses post). Can you tell us more about it?

I'm in the process of building a .30 Gibbs on a VZ24 action. I will be using a 26" hammer forged barrel. The stock is nice piece of English walnut with a buffalo tip and a skeleton grip cap. I am using a Timney trigger w/ side saefty and a streamlined shroud. The trigger guard is an 1909 Argentine unit.

  6. Tig is the best. " MORE CONTROL". You can weld a little at a time. If things are getting too hot, stop. It is easier to put filler metal where you want it. If the tig welder has a foot control ( which most machines have) you can use as much or as little heat as you need.

  7. Bob, thanks I was thinking of doing it myself, but maybe for just one action it would be better to send it off.

Scott63 We have nickel plating done for work. We send it out to have it done, but we do the masking ourselves. the product that we use comes in one gallon cans. I am not sure of the name. It is a wax like material the we paint on with a brush, and it hardens. After the plating process soak the part in mineral spirits and it will soften and will come off easily.

  8. I want to satin nickel plate a Rem 700 magnum action to match the stainless barrel I wil be putting on it, but will the plating on the locking lugs of the bolt and lug mating area of the reciever wear through quickly leaving a headspace problem? Could I do the plating and then lap through the plating by normal lug lapping process? The plating process looks very simple but I have no experience with it and this seemed like the only problem I could foresee as Nickel would be much softer than the steel. Thanks...Scott

Who ever does your nickel plating should be able to mask any surface that you do not want plated.

  9. Thank you for your replies. I bought a Mauser sporter (guild gun?) at a gun show, upon disassembling the rifle I discovered that it used to have double set triggers. I decided that I should restore the rifle as it was. I found a used double set trigger assembly w/out the kicker. I got a new kicker form Midway. But I am not sure exactly how to fit it. Thanks gunnuty for the directions from Brownells. And thank you all.

  10. My book say's mfg. 1970-85 Model 117 is 357, 6 shot, 2 3/4, 4(heavy), or 6 in barrel, adj. sights, checkered walnut grips, square butt.

    60%-$140, 70%-$150, 80%-$160, 90%-$185, 95%-$195, 98%-$225, 100%-$300

    Add $15 for target grips.

Model 717 Stainless version of model 117

    95%-$230, 98%-$255, 100%-$300

500 stainless models were made for the Calif. Highway Patrol in 38 spl. and are marked CHP. A premium may exsist for this in some areas.

    Hope this helps,

Swamprat, Thanks for the info. Where did you get the info. I need a got source for Ruger info.

  11. Does anyone know any thing about Ruger Security sixes? I would like to know what they are worth. When were they discontinued? I just purchased one that is in excellent condition. The paw hasn't wore the blue off of the cylinder yet. It has a 4" barrel with adjustable sights.

    Thanks,
