    G'DAY

Nice to be here all ! Fritz .We have the same problem ! Crocadile dundee& that idiot Erwin ! Have really given us a bad image ! I was told once by a German backpaker that I could'nt be a Pro shooter cause i did'nt wear a hat with Croc teeth round the brim! I thought the load of Kangaroos on the back of my 4x4 was a dead give away but there you have it! I told the wife the next day I did'nt have to go to work that night as I'd been told by a expert ...ect ! But she clarified the matter ! !! So it was off to work again (minus croc teeth) Dave
  2. WE've been lucky over hee as we have alway's had a heavy Dog control program ! I wa on a contract just before xmas that involved working in a Prohibited area of Australia (Mitary range) It had'nt had any form of control for many years .In 2 months I claimed 300 dogs through Trapping ,Baiting & shooting on site.I've still got to go back as soon as it cools down some what ! There used to be a bounty on Dog scalps ! But I belive this has stopped ! Dave
  3. I'll second that Jerry ! The .303 has been my choice of PH hunting cals all my working life .Oh at times it's been a back up rifle but it's all ways been close at hand .I also have a deep seated love for the 30-30 I still own the Mk1 (1902) that I first brought in the late 60's! Damn thing is on it's 8th barrel & just won't die ! Dave
  4. Thank You Jerry nice to be here Dave

It's a Victorian Beer that we do'nt do'nt see all that much of anymore . I think it's more a export brew than a local product anymore .I have'nt seen it in years to be quite honest but I belive it's popular in England & over your side of the Pond ! Dave
  6. Yeah I've lost count of the Blokes who were crippled or worse through not sticking to tried & proven practices ! These accidents happen all to frequently unfortunatly ! It's one of the major reasons that I scaled back my work load ! That & the fact of the Gov increasing running costs for Pro Roo shooters whilst cutting back our quotas (better to let Kangaroos die of thirst & hunger in a drought than to control their numbers ! Now I concerntrate On dingos

I figured if you were here Toney it must be Ok ! Looks great Dave
  8. Yep same here ! might be basic but it's tool's universal ! Dave
  9. Shootertom asked me to tell of my Camel incident ! So here goes! I was out on a Camel cull /pet food contract ! Now we as a rule worked by ourselves in the edge of the Simpson desert ! This particular day I was shooting like steam ! (Money in the Bank ) I had a talley of 35 up for the day & there wa no stopping me !Until !!!!!! #36 I was'nt even concentrating on the job at hand anymore (first mistake ) Said camel just buckled & went down .I always went for neck shots as this breaks the spine & when a camel runs the neck presents a fair sized target ! I approched the "Dead Camel"to tie a chain round it's back legs & did'nt bother to check for any signs off life (second mistake ) I approched it from the belly side & not from it's back (third & almost fatal mistake ) AS I bent over to secure the chain ! The said Camel did laseris on me & came back from the "dead" !!! I'd only stunned it ! what followed was a kick into the ribs (mine ) & broke 6 of them . I'm rolling round on the ground & I sudenly realise that said camel is now getting to it's feet ! At this point of time I realised (sound quite calm do'nt I ? Hmm at the time ) that I now had a very sore & sorry beast on my hands ! About this time the Camel realised who had caused this sudden neck ach & decided to punnsh me ! So I'm crawling all over the place looking for my rifle & the camel is clearing it's head ! THe duel finnished with me shooting it in the chest whilst laying on the ground at a range of about 2 ft (it actualy had powder burns ) ! To make matters worse I had to drive myself cross country for about 90miles to get help & the flying doctor ! Many Pro shooters over here can tell you of the same experiances & many did'nt make it ! To Top it off when my partner heard of what had happened his reply was something to the affect of ...... So he won't be back out today? Dave

Hey no probs FC (just get somebody else to open your mail for a while ) I do'nt know of too many Aussies who actualy Drink Fosters anymore ! I think Victoria Bitter is the Big beer here these days (I had to give up a few years ago ,after a incident with a camel ) Dave
  12. As Soon as I can sell em to a passing White slave trader! I need the proceeds to finish a couple of unfinnished projects ! It's got to the point round here that I feel like the one who was born in the City & they were born out here! It's scary when your 12yr old Step son says that he wants to be a Pro shooter when he get's older (whilst gazing into your safe) Dave
  13. In my misspent youth . The .303 was a favored weapon of choice (due to cheapness & avalibility ) I was taught by a Old Hand that you could get better accuracy by losening the barrel from it's bed .Then getting a piece of car inner tube cut to a single thickness & then slid into the very fore end of the stock under the barrel.the barrel was then tighterned & a 10 shot group fired . The process was repeated pulling the inner tube along a width at a time until the Sweet spot was found ! The Tube was then Trimed flush with the top of the wood ! Ok these rifles would never make the front page Of Guns but they shot well & the gun smithing was done hundreds of miles from any workshop! Dave
  14. What's the Old Yuppie war cry? He who dies with the most toys is the winner But seriously I live on a 20'000 acre property & 4 years ago when my Wife & kids moved over to live with me none of them had ever been out of a city enviroment ! My wife hated firearms with a passion & Had to learn it was firearms that earned me a living (My brother is the Farmer ) These days I have to hide the keys of my safe so she dose'nt lay claim to anymore Of my" tools" The Kids have Their own Car (minus doors ,Windscreen ) That they use to go out for a shot ! The youngest is now 9 & only shoots under supervision ! WE did away with the Vidio games (Wicked Old step father me ) I've spent over thirty years sleeping out under the sky & cooking on a open fire & the kids are all taking to this like a duck to water ! We asked em what they wanted for Xmas & it was a case of Camping gear !WE are always getting can so& so come out for the weekend ? I supervise any shooting then ! But I would like to think I'm doing my Bit to help the next gereration of Hunter shooters! Dave
  15. I once fell heir to a Pat14 that had been converted to .458 win! It was supprisingly accurate ! The thing was Pressure wise I never really wanted to test the friendship I was Shooting Water Buffalo for the pet meat industryat the time & had no problems moving it on to another PH I'm still kicking myself after nearly 25 yrs Dave
  16. A shot in the dark here (no pun intended ) But a number of sporterized weapons were built for private sale at the Army/Navy stores through out the "Empire " It was fashionable for a Officer to have a weapon a cut above the other Ranks .I've seen Greener .303s like this .I'm wondering if this could be a variation of that mode of Firearm Dave
