  1. Money very well spent.

That rifle is a work of art.

I couldn't believe my luck. I was expecting a long project when in reality she just needed a good bath.

That thing looks like "as issued" condition to me. Fantastic bore, etc. Personally, I wouldn't want to chop that up for a shotgun or 22LR conversion. Not that I'm sentimental or one of those originality at all costs types, just that the thing is almost new. Yeah, I think you done good there.

I plan to keep it as it is, just that small stock issuse by the cleaning rod channel needs addressing. I'm glad I took the plunge.

  2. Yeah, that's a tad bit high on brass, but I bet it lasts a long time. Can't stretch the cases much with black powder. Can that be made from 45-70? Seems like I recall reading an article on making odd ball cases, and almost everything was made from 45-70. Turn the rim a little, trim the top, neck that, etc.

I will have to check in to 45-70 If not I may break down and get 20 of the 577/450 shells until the 24 gauge brass comes in.

    Pictures are now posted.

Better than I expected, There is no visable rust or pitting that I can see so far. So as long as there are no suprises under the stock I did well.

All parts are there (screws, pins, swivels. etc.) Action moves freely. A small crack at the cleaning rod channel and a wrist repair that looks like a bug got to it or dry rot nothing to complain about.

  4. Why not clean it up, get some ammo and shoot it? I think that's what I would do.

Dr. Hess I plan on it. I just did a quick overall check of the rifle as i was on my way out the door. IMA will let you return a rifle as long as you haven't cleaned it. I wanted to make sure the rifling looked good. I ordered a set of dies the same day I ordered the rifle. I planned to resize 24 gauge shotgun brass but everyone is sold out. I can buy 577/450 brass but it runs $129.00 per 20.

  5. It's here. As I was opening the box I held my breath, expecting the worse and i was very suprised and pleased no visable rust! Gobs of grease, a very minor crack on the cleaning rod channel that looks recent from handling. It has a minor wrist repair. I swabbed out the first two inches of the bore from the muzzle and the rifling looks good and the action moves freely. it's a keeper its dated 1887. I will get some pictures up as soon as I can.

  6. Thanks Karl, I hope so. Before I knew what happened my evil twin placed the order.

Dr. Hess it is 450.00 for an the untouched one. I think for a pre-cleaned one they are 675.00. I took a chance and rolled the dice on the untouched. From what i've read the 1885 long lever's are the best bet on getting a decent rifle. It was hard to not want to add the 1864 Snider to the order as well.

  7. We stop them by not letting them in period. "You are banned from entry to our Nation because you belong to a, (race / religion / nation) that has been deemed to cause us harm."

If their is a necessary reason that someone from those demographics need entry for bussiness etc. They are to be monitored 24/7 with an escort.

When my 89 year old blue eyed German Mother is fondled and frisked by a chewing gum smacking sheboon they are not out to protect anyone.

What the TSA mission is, It is for submission training that your rights guaranteed by the Constitution can be revoked for your "safety" bend over and take it from you overloards.

If my Mother ever needs to traval again, I will have her wear a Burka so she will not be bothered and waved through.

Unfortunately, Tom doesn't rule things and White little old Ladies and Children will continue to have their genitals fondled before they can go see Micky Mouse.

  8. A couple years ago my Son with the neighborhood kids were playing in the city park across the street, having a airsoft war. At one point the police pulled in on their regular patrol they got out and talked to them. They told them to make sure all their guns had the orange tip in place so no one would mistake it for a real rifle and then they went on their way.
