I always wanted a jeep but could never afford or justify one. Now I've got two!
2 1/2 years ago, I found this 1990 YJ that needed some work. After a month or so of nights and weekends I've been driving it quite a lot ever since.
A couple weeks ago I picked up this 1980 CJ5. This will be my main project this winter. Any suggestions for a color?

What is the status of this project?

Sure hope you kissed the seller...

Looks like a lot of fun. Where in NC is this?

God's will be done.

Flying to Houston to be with family and watch A&M beat Texas.

Back before WWII the 1917 was one of the few affordable actions that could fit the long H&H cartridges. Many were converted to 300 and 375's. And in Alaska, for your use I figure .308 caliber would get used more often than the larger calibers. You can load it as mild as 30-06 or step it up to 300 WinMag. To put a modern cartridge in one seems like putting fuel injection in a '32 Model A. Just doesn't match; too disrespectful to the chassis.
I've often thought about a 300 H&H on a Rem Model 30 (commercial action of 1917 origin) I have that is in 30-06 AI. But you can't ream a 30-06AI to 300 H&H.

Project status check.

I bet you'd use a 300 H&H more often and longer.

300 H&H Sporter - but will take some sweat equity to be reasonable.

I want to see pics -

BRG in the first three shades has a conifer appearance which would fit right in in Alaska. Other greens may be out of context. The last two are too dark to contrast well with a black top. To borrow a phrase from the 50's - the lighter shades would be "really bitchin'". (I need to stop now or some may begin to question my heterosexuality)

I had a couple enfields and if I didn't sequence the rounds such that the upper round was forward of the lower round the upper rim would tend to hang on the lower rim.

Nice - can we see a picture of the feed ramp?

I recently bought a "3rd brake light" for my '96 Bronco. Pretty sure it's nothing more than a slightly reconfigured F-150 bed light. Paid $20 bucks vs. some multiple of that from dealer for a "light kit" I think

Please post pics.

I received a "bundle" of 1908 Brazilian Mausers in 7x57 last week from Century. They seem to be in relatively good shape without any deep pitting. Metal is discolored for sure. Overall, they look rough, and the condition was advertised as "good, cracked stock, dark bore." I expected about what I got, and that is OK. 4 rifles for $356. Once came with a cleaning rod. I think the stocks could be salvaged, too. I intend to use the DWM actions for sporters.

So what do you have in mind... or are you just stockpiling?

I think the oil industry would call that a junk shot. If that is a prescription medication on the left it may give you a clue as to how recent and who may have clogged the drain. Is that a prune?

Title pretty much says it all. I have a couple of rifles that I would like to upgrade the wood on, and maybe change the style. Nobody currently makes aftermarket stocks for these rifles. So, does anyone know who might be able to do it at a reasonable cost? I have a pattern stock already for the inletting.
I'm pretty sure dakotacliff duplicates. He's on e-bay

How about a lever action in 243 - a BLR? Not common but a light repeater with more reach.
-
Heck, Bob, the 257 won't beat you up nearly as much as that 8x57!!
Clemson
True. But can't say you're not impartial in the matter. I'm saving up my money.

Whenever I think about re-barreling one of my 8x57's (a broad and deep assortment of Husqvarna 640 beaters with excellent barrels) I read the following article. In fact I've been wanting Clemson to rebarrel one for me to 257 Roberts for a couple years now but can't seem to bring myself to violate one.
