  1. We called them Tramp Stamps for lots of years.
  2. Collector value of an enemies weapon of war is kinda gruesome for me. Sorta like collecting pics. of plane and car crashes or funeral home mortician instruments. I do love my M1’s and all our battle rifles, but not the guns that shot at my Dad,Grandpas and uncles. I’ve never sportered a Mauser that was so called collector grade. Everyone has been from parts or had barrels chopped and mostly drilled and tapped for scopes. I have 2 complete all no. matching Swedes in full battle dress and a Swede 94 that stock has been chopped that I can’t sporterize cause I’m holding out for a miracle finding a stock I can afford. I have no qualms at sporterizing and rifle that shot at Americans or Allies. At the availability and price of parts, I see the death of our hobby.
  3. My son found Schlitz at a liquor store in San Antonio. I drove a Schlitz truck for couple of years in ‘72 & ‘73 and didn’t care for it, but also had Old Mill that I did like. It’s made again by Miller/Coors but extremely hard to find. It’s fan-cotton-pickin-tastic. I drink too much beer just because I love the taste. Best beer I’ve had hands down in a long time.
  4. I’m getting ready to finish and start a couple rifles and was wondering what you cats may be up too. I’ve got a .35 Whelen to finish and starting a 1908 Brazilian in 6.5x55 for nephew. Also have most parts to put together another Geha. It’s finally cooled off enough watering and mowing has slowed down and except for peppers and eggplants, garden is completo. Could be picking okra but everyone is screaming enough.

Still no reply to text I sent. How different from when we lost Fritz. His Daughter sent us the news and we all thought it was a joke at first.

If anyone has at least AZ’s real name I would do some research to find out what’s up with him. Either personal message here or email me at jerrydoughty@verizon.net. I had a box he mailed a bolt in maybe 10 years ago but can’t find it.
  10. Amazing the lathe work that was done in I suppose days before bed springs. That’s some cotton-picken beautiful furniture. So, spindles across head and foot board are for ropes ???
  11. England defeated Scotland in 1650 at the Battle of Dunbar. Prisoners were given choice of death or sent through out “kingdom” to work for Loyalist business owners. Slaves ! The 1st Doughty(my family) was sent to Maine to work in a saw mill. So I owe the limeys for that.
  12. My biggest personality flaw (at least to me) is I hold grudges. I’ve been watching UKS morning the Queen. Fox is doing their coverage of 911, and had footage of the Queen having our National Anthem at Buckingham Palace because she remembered what it was like when Germany was bombing the Hell outta England and knew what it felt like to be bombed. The hearse going to Scotland carrying her casket is a Mercedes Benze built in Germany. Fox keeps reporting that Biden released FBI reports that Saudi Arabia was behind the 911 attack, while just months ago Biden was begging the Saudis for oil.
  13. Didn’t get to bird hunt with my Geha. We got rained out. Got to hunt a little but couldn’t bring myself to bring it out in rain. The drought has been so terrible for West Texas we gladly sat at camp and drank beer cooking steaks on mesquite coals lying about the old days, cussing and farting. Me and my 3 brothers had a fantastic time.
  14. Thanks Ken but it’s a 50 ft’er. Don’t look so good closer than 50 ft. Didn’t get to use it dove hunting this weekend. Got rained out.
  15. Just shells with pellets and powder out. Gonna put another bolt shroud and firing pin in for this weekend dove hunt.
  16. Gonna put a reproduction Swede 96 sling on it when it gets here. Gonna use it next weekend. Opening day of dove season in Texas.
  17. After several years of off and on tinkering ,I have my frankin-Geha done. I got the action and stock from ‘ think Don Markey’ and scrounged an incomplete stock from who knows where several years ago. So far from correct restore and not a rifle I don’t know where it should be posted so here it is.
  18. Tell me how I’m wrong thinking the cartel is our biggest enemy flooding our country with deadly drugs they receive from China. How great it’d be to hear our govt. tell Mexico and the cartel “today it stops” ,You fix the problem or we will. Not an invasion on the country, but the cartel. The cartel makes the Mafia look like Cub Scouts.
  19. Double what I paid couple years ago.
  20. For maybe 12.00 I bought an adapter at Academy Sports that converts pump up Coleman stoves to propane. It’s held on with a spring. Works great. I melt lots of lead for fishing weights and jigs and piece of cake when I run out of either fuel.
  21. Same thing happened to my green beans 2 seasons ago. I had a great tomato crop this year, but they weren’t pretty. I plant Celebrity every year, but this spring they were hard to find. I bought 4 Homestead plants that are still producing even in this extreme heat and drought.
  22. This has been a great thread starting with Dutch farmers and mostly ending with us and the possibility of having to feed ourselves. Growing food is the easy part. Preserving and storing is the tough part. I’m getting into saving seeds because of the trouble I had getting old standby varieties this past spring. I think it was Tony that brought up his tomatoes were splitting. I ask my Grandpa years ago why mine split and his didn’t. He said too much water too late. I’ve never had splitting again unless there was a big rain.
  23. I’m not a Smith but have tinkered with Mausers for 50 years and have never seen, read, or heard of a failure that someone said “if it had been re-heat treated that wouldn’t have happened”. Good tight action that’s head spaced correctly in calibers within safe pressure range will be fine. I’d rather trust a good tight original action than run chance of heat treater having off day an make something brittle or warped. Not many of us can afford the ammo to wear out an action these days.
  24. I haven’t bought the mix yet. Good point.
