  1. MB,The 2 small businessmen I know with the concrete and lawn service are living a lot larger life style than you or me will ever live and they're using illegale labor doing it.You just wait until you have kids in college that can't get 10.00 hr. jobs with construction jobs because they're American citizens and have to work in chicken joints for 5.50 an hr. because they're in the public eye and the owners are afraid of working illegals.Jerry
  2. If it takes $15.00 an hour for a young man starting out to support a wife, baby, make payments on a second hand car, groceries and clothes, with a little taken out for insurance, that's living tight and the wife will eventually have to work to make ends meet.A small business man such as a concrete contractor or lawn service can hire 3 wetbacks for the same money. That's why there's so much talk of the wets doing jobs Americans won't do.Americans can't live on the 5.50 the Mexicans are making and sending home. It's not that we won't do the jobs,it's we can't live on the money the business owners is paying,at the same time their getting rich off illegal alien labor.I'm surrounded by illegals everyday working for the cleaning company that does or factory, and they don't work any harder the the Americans I work with.If the contractor hires one that turns out slothful,he can fire him right then and there, and the wets know it.Try that with a legal citizen. They'd end up owning your business if you fired them because they didn't work hard enough. It takes lawyers to fire an American.People sure need to live with the illegal immigrant problem before they buy into" they do jobs Americans won't do". Jerry
  3. Where I work,a lot of folks come from our Seattle plant to here in Texas, and they think they know about our wetback problem from what they read in the papers, but are actually shocked when they see and experience the mess we have in our border states. The ILLEGAL immigrants are comeing over our borders like the flood waters went over the levies in New Orleans.Everyone is just setting back and watching it happen, and after the economies are ruined by so many not paying school taxes and drawing welfare, they'll start fighting for jobs that will pay less and less, until it's better for them to stay home in Mexico.Just like the flood waters, they'll go back into they're main channel, leaving behind everything ruined.Jerry
  4. It's so dry here in North Texas, the Parks and Wildlife people are putting flea powder on the catfish in Grapevine Lake.Jerry
  5. FC, I've been wondering the same thing.I wish Noah was around to ask what he thinks.Jerry
  6. What kind of pee-cup did you get fritz? I've been owning and driving cars for 37 years, and have only put a car in a shop 1 time, and that was because I was in a bind.Chevrolets big new idea of using push on fittings on transmission cooler lines sucks, and it cost me $300.00 for a new line and fitting. After I got home from the trip,I checked the price on the parts, and the line, about 2' long was 18.00,and the fitting was 3.50 at the dealer and 1.80 at Auto Zone.It took about a hour for a pimple face kid to put it on.They had me by the go-nads and knew it.The only thing I refuse to work on is a washing machine.Dryers are ok.Jerry
  7. Same thing with us Freemasons. Our initiation ceremony is the only thing that's secret too.Well, there are a few other things, but I've seen them in books and on the history channel,so the gig is up on them.We start and finish every meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Alegence, and then it's normal business.Rev.,Louisiana gave Texas the charter to start our own lodge in 1836,so thanks for that.My uncle was a Knights of Columbus member and a Freemason.Never heard of anyone being both.Jerry
  8. Good to hear Jason. You'll never regret it.If you haven't seen the movie "National Treasure",you ought to check it out.Lot's of Freemason stuff in it.You should be getting your sporter bolt shroud today. It was mailed Saturday from the main Ft.Worth post office.I hope you can get Brownells to trade it for a large-ring. Jerry
  9. Good find Tony. There's a range at Weatherford I'm going to check out. Thanks! Jerry
  10. We built a truck for a company in or around Quebec, and the owner sent his son to watch the truck being built from scratch, and he hung around with me for about a week while I tested his truck. He was just a kid of maybe 20,and knew so little English,I'd say he couldn't speak it.I think maybe it wasn't the English he didn't understand, but maybe our Texican lingo.I just figured a person that young and so French speaking, that French was growing and spreading.A Mexican on a locale talk show was raising hell about 3rd generation of wetback kids starting a new form of Spanish, mixing Spanish and English up,and the newest arriviving wets can't understand them.He predicts in 10 years the Mexican kids won't be able to speak true Spanish.Boo-hoo.Goth,do you live in the good hunting part of Canada? Jerry
  11. I tried every idea, and the only thing left to do is grind the mounts off with my Dremel so that I can get some small vise grips on the screw ends,so reckon I'll bite the bullet and buy some 50.00 rings and leave the mounts on. I gave her a hell of a try,but had to holler calf rope on this one.Jerry
  12. Can't tell,it's a secret! Jerry (nails or screws in the top flange, the next run covers the nails)
  13. I'm a Master Mason, are there any others amongst us.It's a dying fraternity because everybody is like me,way too busy to dedicate our spare time to even a good purpose.Jerry
  14. Goth, what ever happened with all the fussing over French being the official language of Canada? Was it just a Quebec thing?I can't remember where you live, but know you'd be the one to ask.I see the same thing coming up here in Texas. You can see it coming when the street signs are in spanish.Jerry
  15. fritz,is it a front or rear wheel bearing?Since we're not going to get any rain here this weekend,I'm going to change the front wheel bearings on my old Ford pee-cup.I was thinking about just repacking them, but at 240,000 miles, reckon I'll change them.Me and my buddies at work were talking about rain, and I told them I feel like we had just a regular, dry, hot,Texas summer, but it's lasted about a month longer than usual. Most years it rains hard right about when wheat needs to be combined, doesn't rain again until the school boys start football pratice and the opening day of dove season. We're nearly a month past that and still no rain.Jerry
  16. 3 times for me and I'm already so sore my eyelids hurt.I know you done that on purpose fritz. You knew we couldn't follow instructions.Jerry
  17. Not yet Tony,I've been busier than a 2 pe_kered billy goat and haven't had time to work on my own stuff.Maybe this weekened if I don't work.Jerry
  18. Z,if heat isn't a factor, come on to Texas. We'd love to have you! Just stay away from Houston. Jerry not just because of hurricanes
  19. fritz,I've got room for ya'll too! After seeing what Katrina did to Biloxi last week and how far it went inshore, you need to get the hell outa there. If you need anything, help after it blows through, just holler.I may have a weak mind, but I have a strong back, and, unless you have a metal roof,I can't see how you can get by without some roof damage.God,I hope you get by ok.I'm going to send you an email with my phone number.I can roof, chase cows, and build fences, and have 2 chain saws.Just let me know.I'm so glad your going to Austin.Jerry
  20. I drove a beer truck for a Schlitz distibutor in '71 and '72,and Miller in the clear bottle was my favorite,Old Mil was next.I had Old Mil on the truck.Schlitz was $5.00 a case wholesale and Old Mil was $4.20.I made $50.00 a week +28 cents a case for Schlitz and 18 cents for Old Mil,Schlitz Malt Liquor, tallboys, quarts.I was old enough to have a commercial driver license and could sell a truck load of beer a day,but wasn't old enough to buy a beer.Jerry
  21. I didn't know there was a part of Canada that doesn't get much snow! What part do you live in Goth? Jerry
  22. My Great Grandfathers oldest brother made 3 trail drives from Below Victoria Texas on the coast to Kansas City, made and saved enough money to invest in a cattle shipping port where Rockport Texas is now.I would guess that's about 800 miles? My great grandmother told us that when the herds went through, there wasn't a sprig of grass for 40 miles east or west.Every herd would scoot over to the next grass, just like giant lawn mowers mowing a path north.Hwy 287 from Ft.Worth to Wichita Falls has all kinds of businesses called the Chisolm trail this and that. The big crossing was at Ringold, but There was another crossing north of Muenster called Corral Point. It's a big pointed bluff about Red River that drops straight down on 3 sides, and it only took a couple men to watch a whole heard of cattle.Aint history some cool stuff? Jerry
  23. Cripple Creek Colorado in 1962 was a ghost town that looked like everyone just loaded up and left one day.1970 there were a few weird looking folks we found out later called hippies living in some of the abandoned cabins.1985 some people had turned some of the nicer cabins into vacation homes, fixed up real good. Now Cripple Creek is gambling casino town, with all the old buildings turned into casinos. At least I have memories of what it use to be,and besides,it's probably closer to being the town it was in the 1800's than the 1960's when I first saw it.Jerry
  24. Maybe rebuilding is a good idea if it'll draw the vermon back to the den away from our towns.Strange those stats you have say 66 percent of the population is black, but in the news clips,it looked like 98 percent were black that was doing the looting. The liberal news media has pushed me closer to being a racest than ever.I drove the coast from Slidell Louisiana to the Alabama border last week, and am sick to my stomach that nothing much is being said about all the cities in that 250 mile stretch that aren't there anymore, with people living under salvaged plywood and tarps. They could only wish for a house that has sludge in it,and we're not even hearing them crying on the news camera's asking who's going to take care of them.I've seen the trouble down there with my own eyes, and my view is to hell with New Orleans since it's nasty and muddy, lets help those that are helping themselves.20,000 people in the Super Dome, and they have to ask for volunteers to help feed and distribute food, while they sat on their fat asses fanning themselves in lawn chairs.Raping and murder was suppose to be happening in the Dome,so what kind of men were in there that didn't form groups to keep an eye on the women and children.I think we grouped together the sludge of Americans, got them in a 20,000 people group, filmed the hell out of them, and then showed it all over the world how sorry Americans are.The Democrats are scared to death that the Govt. will do a good job of handling yet another major crisis,so they start pointing fingers at what went wrong and whose fault it is before the wind quit blowing.Jerry
  25. Thanks feller! I'll try all suggestions until I get them out.I'd like to get the mounts off so that I can use Leopold mounts, the Conetrol rings are around 60 bucks, and I have Leopold bases and mounts already.Jerry
