  1. Just in case some of you snot nose kids didn't know, when your TV screwed up,you could pull the 10-15 tubes out of the back, and go to some of the larger grocery stores or drug stores, and they had tube testers about the size of a vido arcade game that you could plug the tubes into the correct spot, and hit a test button to check it.If you found one bad,on a shelf under the top, there were new tubes you bought and went home and fixed your TV.Those old rotory tuners sure sucked. You found your channel, and then barely moved the knob back and forth until the picture was clear, hopefuly.TV's and chainsaws are the only 2 things I can think of that cost about the same as back in the 50's and 60's and are much better now.Jerry
  2. Monte, watch the scum close enough to get his scedule coming and going from home, and set up a lawn chair and camp table where he'll be sure to see you,and clean your shotguns when he goes by.You might even hang some rope on a limb and work on your braiding. When my daughter use to bring home some hard_ _ k for me to meet so she could go out with him,I always used the time waiting on them to clean my guns.I don't know if it worked or not,but made me feel better knowing I tried.Jerry
  3. Why am I a guest all at once? Jerry
  4. You ask a good question, and I hoped you'd get some answers,'cause it's something I've wondered about too.Deer are in full velvet in New Mexico during archery and blackpowder season, and I have seen mounts with velvet.I took a taxidermy class at the local JC just long enough to know it's not my bag,and anything we didn't want to stink,we rubbed Borax into or soaked in anti-freeze.I'll ask at work, there's a couple guys that sideline doing taxidermy stuff, and maybe I'll have an answer this afternoon. Jerry
  5. Here in the big city, those kinda of churchs are on every corner, and I've come to a conclusion that there sole purpose is to make the church the members whole life. The reason I say that is,most here have daycare, and some 1 through 6 school, gyms, outside basketball courts, cafeterias, movie theater, and the one right down the street has a bowling alley. The folks leave their kids early in the morning, pick them up at 6pm,and take them every night to some kind of youth group, party,or movie, and in the summer there is vacation bible school, and youth retreats. My brother went to one here and his kids were only at home to sleep, the rest of the time they were at a church function.I think they are raising their future members, trying to keep them on the books. Those kids are going to be raised the sheltered life the way the church thinks they should be raised, and that's a good thought, but what about when they go off to high school and are dumped in the real world. There's a lot of truth in the old stories about the preachers kids.My Grandfather was a Methodist minister, and he wouldn't have wanted a million dollar church just to be the biggest and best in town. When a church here remodels and expands, the next one down the road will be next. They're a lot like car dealerships. If one hangs a big American flag out front, the next dealership down the road puts up a bigger one.I reckon a preacher of a 3 million dollar church has a higher salary than one preaching in a school gym.I'm not down on religion at all, until it's a business.Jerry sorry about my spelling!!
  6. If it's cooked right,it's pretty good.It kinda taste like beef.Well then, why not just eat beef? A BBQ place near Ft.Worth had emu and really pushed it,so I gave it a try,and it was ok,but I wish I had spent my money on the beef that was great.I ate ostrich neck stew in Africa a few years back, and it taste just like stew made out of ostrich necks.I won't be eating birds that can't fly anymore. The locales said the stew was their favorite fancy dish.It sucked bigtime.I've read where most Native Americans favorite meat was buffalo, then venison(deer, elk, antelope),horse, mule, some northeastern tribes, dog, and bottom of the list was cows.Jerry
  7. The bigger and nicer the church is,the bigger the membership will be.The more successful a church appears to be,the more successful people it will draw in,and the more the members can afford to pay a successful preacher that caused all this to happen.MONEY,MONEY,MONEY!!!! The little country church I was raised in but don't get back to very often,75 miles away, would have a big day if 50 showed up.They don't even pass the offering plate. If you can give an offering, you can mail it to the secretary or just hand it to him after church. You feel like you've been to church when you leave there. It's not a fashion show or a place to go fuss.Jerry
  8. They have 91/30 Nagant barreled receivers, cut to carbine length 5 for 29.97,10 for 49.97 Remington marked 91/30 barreled receivers, cut to carbine length,14.97 Hexagon 91/30 barreled receivers cut to carbine length,5 for 39.97 10 for 59.97 If the barrels are at least 20'',would it be a crapshoot to order 5,order a bolt from gunbroker or ebay, and hope one would headspace?Never mind.I just realized it would be a miracle to headspace good, and be a good bore too.A bolt, minimum of 20 bucks, triggerguard maybe another 20,and then 20 bucks for other little parts, nope,I'd have over 100.00 in a gun with a chopped barrel and no stock. Jerry
  9. You might give Old Military Gun Supply a look too. They always have a bunch of Enfields, but they're in Fort Worth. Welcome from me too! Jerry
  10. I bought one of the 19 1/2'' 7x57 barrels on ebay about a year ago for 25.00,and it's new,no matter how old it may be.The thing is coated with what looks like varnish.Like Jason said, the steps are in different places than regular Mausers,so I thought I'd get a Mossy Oak Corelite stock and try and figure out what kinda of dye to use in Accra Glass to turn it sort of greenish color, and then Parkerize the metal as close to A3-03 green as I can.Nikon has their 3x9 Buckmaster scope in camo for 169.00 at Cheaper Than Schitt.Maybe I'll get a black synthetic stock, fit the barrel, and use black glass bedding to fill the gaps.I don't have one gun that I wouldn't mind it getting wet if I get caught in a rain.Jerry
  11. Cheaper Than Dirt has Sellier Belliot shells at a good price, and I have shot a lot of different calibers and have never had a single problem.Guns and Amo did a show on the S&B factory, and it's one of the oldest in the world and has been the no. 1 ammo factory in Europe since gunpowder was invented.I have Cabela's 4 miles in one direction and Cheaper Than Dirt 4 miles in another,so I'll be shooting S&B for a long time.At 7 bucks for a box of 20 for 6.5x55 Swede,I'm not going to reload anymore.Jerry
  12. Tony, any time you work where there is a long chain of command, your going to have crooked,coniving,back-stabbing,lying,2 faced sob's doing anything they can to hold you back because you are a threat to their position,or they need you to step on for their advancement.I've worked with dudes 15 years that go into management, and then turn on the ones they called friends for years, deer hunted with, drinking beer after work, and going to their families funerals, just to get one more step on the ladder. You don't know a person until your in their way of the next step from their ambitions.Good luck getting that other job.If you can get it without lying or screwing someone over,it should be so much more gratifying.Jerry
  13. I wish it had spellcheck.I'd like to hide some of my dumbassity. On the other hand,it does make me try a little harder.I'm use to this new board now and feel at home here. It's working great for me,after a bad start on my end.I sure hate going by the archives and seeing them blank.Thank you Tony for this wonderful place to retreat to.Jerry
  14. My friend told me about his opening morning deer hunt a couple years ago where at sun-up,a emu walks up and ate right out of his feeder, and scared all the deer, turkeys, and hogs off.He screws up lots of words and called it an emule, and it ate all his corn.It had to be the next day when I saw Emul8 for the first time and laughed my butt off thinking of him and wondering how she came up with that name.I know this has been done before, but it was lost,so I'd like to see it again. My Grandpa said me and my twin brother were just like horseflies, pester the crap out of you and irritate your ass.He called us little peckerwoods. For some reason I've never known, folks up on the Red River called woodpeckers, peckerwoods. The blacks in town called white people peckerwoods too.Jerry the Horsefly/peckerwood.
  15. Got it written down this time. Thanks Tony and Swampy. Jerry
  16. I got 9 out of 10.I think maybe I know most of the guys.I wish they would do the same test with women! That would be tougher.Sorta like Martha Stewart.Who'd of thunk she'd have been such a national terror? Jerry
  17. I've been looking for a 38 6.5 Jap too,but the prices have gone out of sight on the gun auction boards.Sounds like you got a good one.I saw a 7.7 a while back at the Dallas gunshow that was in a laminute(gray)stock, had the reciever tangs shortened like a Mauser, and the safety knob turned down to about the size of a 38,and with the nice taper the barrel has,it was a fine looking gun.Jerry
  18. Same with me Dave.Get up at 4am,make coffee, check our gunboard while drinking coffee, and go to work.Get home at 6:45,check the board, eat supper and head to bed.Coming here is the only thing in my daily ritual I look forward too.No matter what Tony says,it's his gunboard and I'm so glad he created it 'cause it makes my life a lot more enjoyable.Jerry
  19. Can you post the address again where to send contributions for our board?Yesterday was payday and I can't find your original message. Thanks,Jerry!
  20. Could anybody tell me the name of a good book on Arisaka's? Jerry
  21. With a name like Billy Dixon,I reckon you know what long shots are! Jerry
  22. Voted! Thanks for the heads up.We have the same restiction at my work, but it's ignored. The company can't search our vehicle without permission.Jerry
  23. Tony,I'd like to know where they get their prices from.A guy at work bought a .270,homemade Turk 38 for $300.00,and it's rougher than a wood haulers ass.I bought a Ranger Arms .270 bolt action for 575.00,and was offered $1,200.00 for it because it has a deep scratch on the left side, like a barbwire scratch. The Fort Worth store has a Pedersoli,.50 double barrel muzzle loader that weighs probably 18lbs. that I'd sure love to own,but I dang sure don't need it,at $695.00.I looked at an old 870 Remington Wingmaster, the small slide style, with a rifled barrel that needed wood refinishing and bluing.I couldn't make out the price at first, and then got out my reading glasses and thought they had gone bad on me.$500.00.My next big buy,if there is a next, will be a Pedersoli or Uberti Winchester.45/70 with a 30 or 32" barrel.Ty pointed me to a gun club west of Ft.Worth that does up to 1,000 yr. blackpowder shoots.Jerry
  24. Jason,if you really want to draws womens attention, get a wallet an pack it with something about 3'' thick. It's the same as a woman wearing a wonder bra.Just remember what kind of girl your attracting though.Jerry
  25. Gosh dang it would take a schitt-load of wet backs to clean that mess up.No,on the other hand, this Gringo would gladly do it for free.I know there aren't anybody on the planes but ragheads extremist.Lets make this the perfect fantasy.Jerry
