Why, don't you just post a link so everyone on the web can out bid you?
Don
That's something I only had to do a dozen times or so before I wised up.

I am looking for 1" mounts for a 1916 small ring action, something of a vintage style that would look good with a Mannlicher stock and a Weaver V-3. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have nothing definite to suggest save for perhaps period Weaver rings/mounts, but you might make a search on eBay for scope mounts, rings vintage gun parts, etc and keep an eye on it and see if something interesting comes up. The auction time gives enough lead to ask around (discretely, mind you ) about particular items.
Good luck.
How did you come by a Mannlicher stock? I'm looking...

Thanks, appreciated- and good news at that.

Can a '98 barrel be rethreaded to fit an '88 receiver? thanks.

"If it is one of Kimbers actions and they didn't already ruin it, [which they were known to have done to many]."
I apologize for jumping the thread- what did Kimber do to them to make them unsafe? Curious, is all.
Thank you.

I just bought a Swede 96 action and a barrel that has been spoterized by Kimber of America. I am new to the whole Mauser building thing. I thought it would be a good hobby for me and my 9 year old son. Where can I find some info on how to install the barrel. I know I'll need the correct tools, i found what I'll need at midway USA. I was going to have a gunsmith do it, but i would rather do it myself to learn how. Is it as simple as screwing in the barrel and checking headspace with a go, no go gauge? Thanks for any help.
If it was me I'd farm out the barrel/chamber work. But I don't mean to divert your enthusiasm.
Installing a barrel and getting the chamber/headspace/extractor slot right is a tall order for a first timer(I've never attempted it). Not that it can't be accomplished, but a tall order nonetheless. There's a lot that can be done to a rifle, less demanding tasks, once it is barreled,
AGI has good videos to learn from, among others. Poke around and see how they do it.
Youtube has videos, also.
Those Kimbers were nice rifles, I missed the boat when they sold them some years back. Swedes are quality rifles and you can't beat the cartridge.
Good luck with this, you already have a good start.

here are a couple pics of mine.
the 6.5 swede barreled 88 with the front section of the barrel shroud
another with just the threaded section from the barrel shroud.
i have a octagon 8mm barrel from a cg haenel 88 sporting rifle with a bad bore that i'm going to install on this rifle after i have it bored out to 9mm.
Thank you for this information. Both rifles very nice- I'm partial to the sporters and carbines. Is the rifle in the top photo blued, or some other metal coating? I'm thinking with the condition of my receiver it might be wise to use a duracoat type finish.
Here's what I'm dealing with- I could save myself some trouble and replace the safety and bolt release as both are pitted quite a bit more than the overall condition of the receiver.
The markings on the receiver ring are in good shape and clear, I'd like to figure some way to save them.
Thanks again.

one of my 88's has a sleeve that just covers the threads on the end of the receiver.
-could the part of an original barrel sleeve that threads to the external threads be used if only that part was installed over the threads?
I mean for example, could the threaded portion of the sleeve be cut from the entire sleeve and used to cover the external receiver threads and look good.
thanx.
What I have is an 88 receiver w/bolt/no bolthead from Old West Scrounger. It's in decent shape, marked on receiver "S" at the witness mark over "Œ" over "WG" over "STEYR" over "1890". Looks to have been modified to take stripper clips, with a notch in the receiver to accommodate a longer cartridge(?) and a shallow notch slightly obliterating the "Gew.88." on the left rail of the action- like a thumb cut.
I understand boltheads are hard to come by.

New here-
How is the external thread on an 1888 receiver dealt with when rebarreling with a sporter barrel where the external thread won't be used?
Thx.

I'm having trouble picturing what you are talking about so I'll just throw out 2 ideas.
1. a retention lanyard that folds up with the spring and limits the upward travel of the follower.
2. guide tabs added to the follower that extend out past the follower such that it would be stopped by the bottom of the receiver.
#2 was my question above.

Here's an illustration to better show what I'm babbling about.
I want to do this too, however all I have parts-wise is a bolt and a stripped guard.
So without a receiver to reference my comments against, is it possible to "ear" the follower with tabs to keep it down?

There is a metal finish, duracoat, I think, that has a filler that can be applied first, may dress up the pits that are too deep.
