  1. Mine came in today. Total cost was 58.00 apiece shipped. I already stripped them down to the actions. All the barrels looked like pretty much junk. A couple might have been cleaned up with a lot of elbow grease. Four of the stocks were good and the fifth was broken at the wrist.

They were mostly complete except 2 safetys, 1 trigger guard screw, and one firing pin tip was broken. Two had stamped bottom metal.

Only one receiver had any pitting to speak of. Light pitting at the wood line. Will clean up nicely.

All of the bolt faces were nice and none of the lugs were set back in the receiver.

    Overall I'm very pleased.

  2. Hey guyes, got a question. I have an Ovedio (SP?) barreled reciever and need a bolt. Unless my memory is lacking, there was two types of bolts for the Spanish guns, flat bottom and regular rounded. Do these actions take the flat or round? or am i completely off target as ususal? Thanks.

Look inside of the receiver at the feed ramp. You,ll be able to tell which bolt was originally used in the action. It probably had a flat bolt.

  3. ?? They are not listed on ther web site.

I think you have to get theit fliers or be on their email list for specials. I get emails.

I believe you can order them in several different conditions. Poor, Fair, or Good U-Fix- Ems.

The January Special was buy 4 and get one free of the Fair U-Fix-Ems. I ordered that deal.

I'm hoping for some good actions. When they had the 03 Turks on special, out of 10 that I ordered only one action had any pitting to speak of and it wasn't that bad and headspace was good on 8 of them and 7 had good shootable bores. I was real pleased with the Turks.

This Deal was buy 4 at regular price (69.87) and get the 4th one for free. They're about out of the German rifles, but, when I ordered they had plenty Czech, and Belgium made rifles left. I picked 3 Czechs and 2 Belgiums. We will see. I hope I luck out again. I'll let ya'll know when they arrive.

  4. Got some bad news this morning.

It seems that this GEW98 that I have searched for years to find may be a stolen gun.

I'm going to give a description and serial # to the state Troopers tomorrow.

I guess if it is stolen the original owner will be happy to get it back, though I'll be heart broken. :(

:( That is bad news!! Keep us updated. If it is, can you get your money back? How did you get this information?

  5. Cool rifle. Where did you find headspace gauges for the 7.65x53?

    Clemson

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Clemson, I used new brass to set the headspace with. I didn't know headspace guages were available (Thanks for the heads up on the guages, Don).

I built another one (with a sported military stock) in 30-06 and now I'm building one in 8mm/06. That will probably be my last one (for a while).

I bought a lot of GAG's firewood stocks and some of them are pretty nice. I haven't used any yet so I don't know how good the inletting is.

Another Enfield will probably be next, but, it will be a while as I will be starting construction on a new shop since deer season is over.

PS Learning how to shape a military stock was a long evolution (20 years). You should have seen my first attempt. You would still be laughing.

  6. Beautiful job on the stock and nicely configured with the sling arrangement, choice of scope and stepped mauser barrel. Interesting choice to go with the 7.65x53. Doesn't get a lot of press but is a very potent round.

    Nels

I bought that barrel off of ebay when you still could and have been saving it for the right action.

    I'm a big fan of the 7.65x53. It's my .308. I think it's very underrated.

  7. I've always wanted to take a crack at working over a milsurp stock into a nice sporter. I think there is a lot of potential in those clunky pieces of wood that a patient wood sculptor could coax out.

Most milsurp stocks look like just that... milsurp. Rojelio, I think yours is the best sporterized treatment of a military stock that I have seen yet.

Did you put some wood plugs over the recoil bolt?

No, it's not that nice. I just made a shallow plunge cut on each side on the milling machine and filled it up with dyed acraglas gel then sanded smoothe with the rest of the stock just to hide the recoil bolt.

Matching huisache would have been nice, but, would have taken a lot more effort.

  8. Second that! My only issue would be that the LOP would be too short for me using the milsurp stock.

The pad is 1 in. I ended up with 13 5/8 LOP which works OK for me with a heavy coat while hunting.

The only problem is it was 80 deg. sitting in the blind this evening. Didn't see any fat sows this evening only skinny ones with a bunch of little pigs on them so the Yugotine didn't get any blood on it today. Maybe tomorrow.

  9. nice rig ...tell me about the stock

It's just a militaty stock that I reshaped and added a recoil pad and huisache forend tip to.

Huisache grows in south Texas and if you can find a big enough tree, it is a beautiful pink and yellow streaked wood. I have a large stump behind my shop that I've been carving on. It has a lot of wormholes in it, but, every once in a while, I find a chunk big enough to use for a forend tip.

  10. This is my Yugotine (Weaver77 coined that phrase). It's a 48 Yugo action and an Argentine barrel in 7.65x53.

I put up the Enfield 7 mag. for the year and figured I'd try to earhole a fat sow or a turkey with this rig before the season ends this weekend.

I like the way this one turned out and it shoots little bity groups, too.

  11. Rojelio nice collection!! What is that one second to the left?? Looks like an 88 with the conversion to me.

Yes, it's an 1888 Commission rifle thats been converted to use stripper clips. It's also a Turk. Those Turks were busy little beavers weren't they?

  12. GA1dad, keep holding out and you'll get that big one. You kill the big ones by not killing the little ones. Weaver77 didn't kill a deer last year on this place and so far he hasn't killed one this year. He's holding out for a mature (4 yrs. or older) buck. I've killed about a dozen hogs and Weaver has killed enough hogs to fill up a semi trailer. We were infested with hogs this year. It was nothing to see 50 a piece in one evening hunt. We finally have them thinned down to controllable numbers. Other than that, lots of javelinas and turkeys.

    Happy hunting, Rojelio

  13. Here you go. Not a Mauser, but, a Mauser variant. P14 Enfield in 7mmRem. mag I finished and used for the first time this year. Weaver77 and I hunt together and build guns together. Although this is my first post, I've been lurking for quite a while. Mainly to keep an eye on Weaver.
