  1. got it this morning, sick to the stomach, massive headach. between the screwy weather and everybody elses getting sick one cannot win. Brenden
  2. i have to give you props for doing the checkering. To me it looks good, but of course your going to see mistakes since your the one that did the work. I doubt once it is completed with stain or oil, that anybody will see an inprefection. My hat is off to you, i planned taking a step and trying to checker but i've been kicked in the groin too much lately and am balz less. Brenden
  3. Tanglewood gave me a nice suggestion last night. Since the barrel is toast, (its been cut to less than 16" and then counter bored with a drill, why i have no idea), i'll pull the barrel and then lightly file and sand away a couple thousands. If one is to lightly tap the bolt, it goes in and functions, so its very close. Maybe i can save it. Thank goodness that he called before i went into the creek. Ken98, your correct, i made very sure i didn't over kill the tension on the action wrench last night when i pulled the yugo, its fine and functions beautiful. Its a very nice action. I've noticed something on these sweed recievers, maybe kimber is like me and didn't know a whole lot at the time, but look at all those recievers on gunbroker, pinched twisted, bent, cracked. I know one can do this to any reciever but are these sweeds a touch softer or what? just a wondering Brenden
  4. No i didn't get the barrel off. This is before i had a barrel vise and thought that i (as well as dad) could just put a pipe vise on the barrel and take it off, needless to say it didn't work worth a crap. Did manage to take my 24/47 yugo barrel off just about 10 minutes ago, the action is fine and dandy, i've learned to use proper tooling and proper tension if nothing else. Makes me f-in sick to screw up a nice action. Bolt is still good though, maybe i can find a nice reciever. i'm gonna go stick my head in the creek and hold my breath real long now.... Brenden
  5. I've got a Carl Gustava (SP?) 1918 that i tried some time ago to get the barrel off of. I set my action wrench a little too tight and now the reciever has been smashed down just a touch to make the bolt a no go. I have lightly sanded inside and have gotton the bolt to go in about 1/4 an inch past the extractor collar. Sanding is going to take forever to get this thing to accept the bolt. Any thoughts or am i just screwed? Brenden
  6. I think thats a pretty nice rifle there. I really like the metal finish, looks very good. The finish, is this a spray on type such as gun kote that comes in an can? The bolt handle looks pretty good too. Is this an aftermarket handle or did you turn your own? Nice job, damn i wish i was your kid! Do you adopt? Brenden
  7. My grilfriend and I spent the evening together cleaning!!! She got an apartment closer to college so i was there to help her move in and do some cleaning. At 12:00, i rolled over gave her a kiss told her happy new year, turned the movie off and went back to sleep. I can't understand it, anyother year i'd be puting down miller lites, guess i'm gettin old like the rest of ya Happy New year Brenden
  8. I have to say this, that is pretty darn cool! That was a good idea to try and boy does it look nice! A nice fine film of poly as Tinker said should keep from tarnishing. I found a shed while coon hunting Monday night and it will be my next grip cap. It will be small, as everyone knows that WV deer arn't much! Good job, bet your son loves it. Brenden
  9. I also have a 1918 Oberndof. It is a very clean and nice rifle and all matching except the floorplate i believe. I picked it up this past summer after my neighbor made the mistake of puting a price on it. It also has the moon on the reciever as yours, but not on the bolt handle. As soon as i bought it i said no to putting a new barrel on it, but man was it hard! Nice find. Brenden
  10. I like the looks of that gun. A shorter stock looks good to me, it looks as if that gun is very well balanced from the photo's. And man, groups like that, what more can you ask for. Very well done. I love seeing a project come together and look and shoot that good. Brenden
  11. Merry Christmas to you all. I really appericate the ones that have sort of taken me under their wing and helped me through my various re-loading and gun building problems. Thanks to all and hope everyone stays safe, and prayers for Rob and his family. Brenden
  12. Tinker, ask the guy if he wants you to buy the lube as well. holy hell. Hes trying to give you a screwing. I looked and looked forever when i was first getting started and there was lee. Get the complet kit they offer, the anniversity kit. If i remember correctly you get the press, pouder measuer, funnel, scale, primer tool, case trimming tools, and shell holders and loading manual for $100 or a little over. I my self have no need for a turret, single stage works just fine and doesn't allow you to get in any hurry, and i feel is better for producing quality ammo. I've got the lee kit and i love it, cheap but very dependable and just as well made as any of them. Your just paying for the name on alot of them. Just me talking though..... Brenden
  13. Rob i hate to hear that about your mother. I hope that the doctor doesn't know what he's talking about and she recoveres. Prayers for you and your family. Have a blessed christmas. Brenden
  14. holy hell camera man, thats a sweet rifle. I bet its a sub MOA shooter. I'd use epoxy on it and just shave off the excess, then dura coat it pink or something exotic looking. Make it a gay pride sniper rifle. Brenden
  15. Glad to hear you had a good time Jerry. As most of us know you don't always have to harvest a trophy to have a sucessful hunt. Good story, thats scary about the gun going off inside the house. That could have easily been a person. Thank goodness nobody was injured. Brenden
  16. Those JHP's are pretty dealdly. I used to use them in my muzzloader, a .45 bullet 180grain over top 82 grains of FFG. Any more than that the light bullets would sling everywhere, but that combo has taken a "few" deer up to 125 yards. I'm now using 250grain T/C JHP sabots over 120 grains of powder. (i shoot a t/c 54 cal.) Its hard for me to step away form serria Spitzer soft points. 125 grainers in the 308 for rock chucks, least i can say is total devestation out to about 275 yards, anything past that its just a tiny hole, but they are equally dead. For deer, i love the 140 serria in the 7 mag, the one i shot this year had a 1/4" entrance hole with about a 2" hole coming out his ribs. I tired to test out my 87gr Hornady hollow point ammo today on deer with my .243. 300 yards is a long way to try to neck shoot one. I used them on ground hogs, and i think i loaded them too hot, its like hitting them with a FMJ. They fly 10 feet backwards, but run it off for a ways. Ballistic tips, i hate them. Used to use em in the 7mag before i started handloading. Deer were dead right there, but if i'd taken anything but a neck shot, meat loss would have been substantial. There deadly accurate, but unnecessary. Partations are ok. I used them for a while in the 243, but found that penetration was marginal. explosion was execellent, but usually pass through one shoulder and stop at the other. This was at less than 100 yards, i expected complete pass through at that range, although i know if i don't get complete pass through thats ok cuz the bullet has used up all its energy and done its job correctly but i like pass through, i'm wierd like that. Shot a young doe at 125 yards with one through the neck, NO PASS THROUGH! thats crazy, my forarm was thicker than her neck, and thats sad. All i can say is I love serria soft points, and have a growing romance for JHP's in my smokepole. Sorry i've rambled so much, nobody is home and the little woman done went to bed for the night. Brenden
  17. What the hell is that "thing" behind that pretty woman and child. Must be some hybrid form of a Yeti. Good looking family, you must be proud. Brenden
  18. Jimro, those are both equally beautiful rifles. Good to hear you got to do some shooting. I've been considering doing a 9.3x57, but the cost of bullets and reloading dies kind of scare my wallet. It will have to be done some day. I've got a sweed that i gave my dad, not the best barrel in the world but he loves it so thats all that matters. Im pretty stuck on the 06 family. I have a wierd fasination with necking up and down a 30-06 case. that 6.5-06 really has my attention. After the 338-06 is complete, i've got a 24/47 action that needs a 308 barrel. I've grown to respect a 308, not the "rainbow" gun i always thought it was when i was younger. Nice site too by the way. Brenden
  19. Good luck to you Jerry! Man you've got it made now. Hope you do well and take some pictures to share with us. Be careful and have a good time hunting. Brenden
  20. Wish all you a good one. Great time of the year to spend with your family and friends. If anybody traveles, be safe. Brenden
  21. Thanks guyes. I was pretty happy with the deer. now i'm horn hunting, that one was for meat. Yeah her eye site must suck. lol. Shes killed a few deer but pretty much got out of it. I'm gonna try to take her doe hunting this year with me. I need a good hunting buddy. Brenden
  22. here is some pics of my monster. lol. the gun is a t/c 7mm mag. Load is federal brass, 63 grains of imr 4831 and a 140 flat base sierria seated to an OAL of 3.219. And theres also a pic of my girl in there too.
  23. Well its that wonderful time of the year again. Snow is falling and gun shots sound like music to my ears. Bow season went well, passed up many bucks as usual looking for the big one, he didn't come close enough. But i did kill a nice doe with my car!! $1300 worth of damage . well gun season opened up yesturday, and it sucked. Rain all day monday, passed up a small 8pt, as well as a small 6pt. Today, it poured down the snow like crazy. passed up another small 6-7pt (couldn't see a brow-tine). Then about noon, i saw a nice buck about 300 yards away, no prob for the 7mag but Too much brush though. Then about 1:30, all of a sudden he appeared again about 130 yards. The 7mag came out the blind, and bam!!!!!!! And he didn't fall. I was scared, thought i made a bad shot. Went and looked where i shot him and there laid his lungs, but no blood after that. But there he lay about 50 yards from where i shot, dead as can be. A nice 8pt, best buck i've taken in a while. I'll have some pictures up pretty soon to show. That 7mag may be a little much for wv deer, but where i hunt, the shots have a way of getting long, up to about 400 yards in one area. So its nice to have a little extra "umph" when it gets there. Hope all are having luck and stay safe. Brenden
  24. Rob, thats pretty good man! Whats your "night hawk"? is it an 8mm? We shot at the range at school the other day. me and a buddy shot in our 7mags. Mine did ok, recoil jarred the stock bolt loose (t/c encore). I've made up my mind to never purchase another t/c again. Just not happy with the craftsmanship. Gonna prob get a 6.5-06 barrel and swap out, the 7mm is a little much. We went shooting last night,,, with a paintball gun! i couldn't make it through the snow to home, so i stayed at my buds house. From what i remember,(my intoxication level was ungodly) we shot the hell outta some deer with that thing, someones horse and numerous other objects that shouldn't have been used as targets. (christmas lights, buildings, signs, vehicles....etc.) Saw tons of huge bucks, and had a good time playing in the snow. i've rambled enough.....good shooting. Brenden
  25. sweet looking gun. Your all set up, bi-pod and everything. Need to get my sweed started. What type of base/rings combo did you use? Brenden
