  1. always figured you could cut it down and cut the spring but that would permanently modify it. or just place a block in the inside and shorten the spring. I'd like to get one and make the mag flush with the gun. Maybe its just me but i can't stand a mag hanging out, it always hits on the window of my car brenden
  2. Can't really think of a way to answer your question, but your rifle looks good. Real nice slim looking rifle. To me, those enfields are pretty cool looking and that round has some good knock down for just about anything. Brenden
  3. Is that Jason on the bike? lol Brenden
  4. did my part. don't think it was enough, this isn't looking good although i havn't watched the news for about an hour now. I was so depressed when i turned it on, i had the sudden urge for a miller lite. Brenden
  5. reminds me of the load my buddy made. Cut a 3.5 inch 12gauge shell apart and put ither 3-4 50 or 45 cal round balls in it and shot it. A water jug was toast out to about 20 yards or so. Most likely wasn't the smartest thing to do. Give a kid some factory rounds and we can always improve it. lol. Brenden

Don't ever buy a stock off e-bay from a dude by the name of mezeke.hb (Harlod Barger i think) he says he uses a hoening rodman duplicator but his stocks look like they've been cut out with a hatachet. Extreame highs and lows in the stock, biggest waste of money i've ever spent in my life. The 338-06 will prob be placed in a new one next summer. ITs been a few months since i got my stock and got it finished the way i want it but i'm still pissed. lol Brenden
  7. Am i the only odd ball that would go with the 7.65x53? All of the above rounds are very well made, the 8mm being a little much recoil, the 6.5 being very accurate and low recoil as the 7mm, but the 7.65 holds many fond memories to me. It was the first mauser i ever held and it made me into the faniatic that i am today. Brenden
  8. Man yesturday was a good day. Saw 15 deer total, 3 bucks. Nothing huge, a nice 6 pt that didn't come into range as well as a small 6 and i passed up a 5-6" spike. Tons of deer going under my stand and even bedding down. None saw me or caught my wind, i'm 40' up in the tree, but maybe only 20 feet above ridgeline, its tough to hunt because of the slope of the land. Rut is going to start soon, both of the 6 points were very active at fighting. It was awsome to see to say the least. Jason, what are you doing up my way? We have too many deer and i could always use a helping hand of distpaching them Brenden
  9. Clayton, You deserve a HUGE pat on the back. I was in your shoes 3 years ago. Hated school, hated life in general. Dated a girl for 2.5 years and knew i had to do something to support her and a family one day ( i was engaged, don't ever do that!) we split, and there i stood, wtf do i do? I did something for myself, started college, threatned to drop out about every week but 3 years later i'm even closer to that Envirnomental Science degree that i ever thought possible. You've done great, and dream big if your going to, the sky is the limit. Your doing right by putting yourself with other educated bound students, there is nothing wrong with roughnecks, hell i've been there, but if your around people with no ambition to get out and go to school, you begin to think just like them (i've been there as well). (i'm not putting down anybody that doesn't have a degree please understand) Guns are great, and i too dream of building custom guns, and one can do it. Maybe not on a large scale such as remengton or sako, but for myself and my hunting buds. Congrads againg, this is one of the best post i've read thus far. Brenden
  10. hello all. Bow season opened up the 18th and man did i have a good time. Hung a stand about 200 yards from my honey hole (don't want to push them yet) and man did i see alot of deer going towards it, about 30 to be exact. Had a few old does come in looking up in the trees for me, then about 9am, i saw a small doe coming in and behind her was a nice buck. He was about 3 yr old, 8pt with about a 14-16 inch spread, nothing huge but boy did i get rubber legs! He walked under the treestand and then i stoped him at 22 yards at full draw. A small beech tree covered the vitals!!!!! He ended up seeing me in the tree about 20 minutes later as i stood up to get a chew of snuff and to streach, (he was 80 yards out and thinking about coming back!!! ) so i moved the stand today to another area across the creek. Saw a few does there while i was hanging the stand and also a small 6pt that i had seen a few weeks ago. Tuesday i have class late so i'll be in the stand at first light. I couldn't image not having bow season, i love being in the tree watching the animals, ive seen some pretty cool stuff. Just wanted to bs a little, and soon i'll have some pics up of a bow kill, i can taste the back straps now...mmmmm Brenden
  11. NICE!!!....make sure you make copies of how to and mail me one. lol Brenden
  12. Darn you guyes for giving me ideas. Now i gotta get the wallet out and get some supplies. Those are all nice looking rifles. I've been wanting to do a sniper version of a mosin just havn't got around to it. Major, thats starting to look pretty cool. Brenden
  13. I'd give my right arm to have one of those, except in the past two weeks, i've bought enough crap to make our national debt look small Brenden
  14. Please note that I'm not making fun of your rifle in any way shape or form, but holy cow. That just looks like it may be a bit unconfrotable and my hurt a little when you squeeze off. But hey its not finished...MOVE FASTER!!!! i'm curious....and i've got 2 of the darned things that i don't know what to do with. Brenden
  15. Flaco, that really sounds neat. I know i could never compete with the big dogs with my gun, but every time i take it to the range at school, people are astounded by the accuracy and love to shoot it. In other words, they'd crap themselves if one was to shoot 600 yards like you and have the groups that you do. I think i'll clear some woods and make a nice 300 yard range. I knocked off many ground hogs this year at 250-300 yards with the longest being a touch over 400 yards. This is all done by driving up and down the road in my car and placing the barrel out the window (even the 400 yarder!). I know my gun well, even though a 308 is a little much for rock chucks, i love it! I've always been intrested in the 6.5 line of bullets. They have some unreal B.C's and inheriet accuracy potential. I've often pondered the 22-6mm, good b.c's high velocity's and many say astounding accuracy. I've got a mauser that needs a new barrel any way.... Although i know one could never shoot comp with a reworked mauser, maybe i'll pick up a savage or rem action? Take care and watch the speeders. Brenden
  16. This is always something i've wanted to do but i don't have money or time enough to do it. I've alwasys consisered my 308 a good shooter with 1/4-1/2 inch groups being the normal everytime one shoots. I keep looking for a few matches around my area and ask around but no luck. Just like to go to one even if i didn't win the knowlege i'd take home would be astounding. I've been thinking hard about building a shooting house and clearing about a 3-4 hundred yard rideaway to shoot in, but havn't done it yet. Flaco, how do you like the 6.5x47 round? is it based on the same case as the 6x47mm? Good luck shooting and keep up the tiny groups. Brenden
  17. Dave, Even though your an active person and like to be doing something, kick back and relax. your gonna miss it when you have to go back to work. Theres a lot of things you can do one handed (or armed). Clean your gun, reload (may be tricky) slap your wife on the behind, the possibilities are endless. Dad is doing good. He is very sore, they had tubes in every hole in his body and even cut some holes. They ended up doing the stints, which will not keep him off work, he plans to go back monday. (we'll see). All in all, hes one tough S.O.B. The thing that bothers him the most is where he laied in the hosipitial bed and where they made the incesions on both sides of his groin area. Other than that, he'll be back to workin my butt of on the farm and back to his work in no time. Thanks to everyone that thought of us. I appericate your kindness, and hang in there Dave. Brenden
  18. Fn has a good reputation. Just be careful, there are diffrent makes from fn. some are Fabrica de National arms (sp?) Mexico, the old mausers (kinda soft and i've seen people try to pawn them off as FN made quality arms) Fn made Yugo's (good) . Belgium made ones like the old J.C higgins are sweet as well and shoot like you wouldn't believe with that chrome lined barrel (i have one:) Brenden
  19. Good to hear everything went well Dave. just remember to take care of your self now on and hopefully you won't have to have any more parts cut or or replaced. Brenden
  20. Dave, as tough as you are this will only be a minor set back, but i'll say a prayer for ya and wish you a speedy recovery. Enjoy your time off, fondle your guns a little, watch some t.v and take a well deserved break. Not to intrude but i'd appericate it if everyone thought of my dad as well, he goes under the knife the 18th for an anursium (spelling?) on his aorta. Don't worry Dave, we'll make sure you get better Brenden
  21. Happy Birthday Rod. Would you like for me to jump outta the cake? brenden
  22. well now that i've polished it all to hell and back. It works, but i'm not seeing why i had so much trouble before hand. Before i polished it, it was so hard to lift from the reciever, i mean locked up tighter than a nun. I had to place it in my barrel vise and gentaly tap it with a hammer. So i polished it some more, smoothed up my cocking piece, and worked it in the reciever, all guts attached. Worked fine for about 10 passes, then it locked up big time. Back to the vise. I ended up putting some 3 in 1 oil on the cocking piece sear, and presto works just fine. My cocking piece is hanging up on something. My reciver is a 798 remington (i know i know), so my question is, should i go to a comercial CP, or what. Is my CP setting deeper causing the problems? I tried my Obendorf bolt in the remington reciever and it even seems to stick more than i like. I don't know. Think i'll just go to bed Brenden
  23. I fiddled some more with it, tried just putting the guts in it w/out the spring, which reduced bolt up lift a considerable amount. I'm back to the military spring now, ditched the 24# er. I noticed something when i tried it a while ago. The spring loaded stop that goes into the shroud, seems like it was dragging badly when the bolt was closed, so i removed it and installed the guts and mainspring back in and my hunch was correct. The stop is hindering uplift, but even with out its still pretty tough. i'll polish and go back and check for burs. Nothing has been done to this bolt, i've got a few extra bolts so i'll see how they do. Thanks. Brenden edit: i tried this shroud on my Model 50 Fn, and same results, something seems to be binding inside.
  24. Hey guyes. Been working on my project a little bit and ran into a problem. I bought a FN style shroud for my bolt and also replaced the spring with a 24 pound spring. I elected to go back to the military spring because of the ease to work with. But, heres the problem. The shroud fits fine and everything is smooth as butter, but darn if i can hardly get the bolt open after the cocking piece moves foward, like if it was to fire. I've been thinking about going to a comerical cocking piece for ease of take down, (insert a 1/16 punch into the retaining hole to hold cocking piece back). But what is causing the bolt to open so hard after de-cocking? Like i say, i'm still a rookie be gentle Brenden
