  1. Are you looking at that pretty stock on E-bay? I've often wondered the same thing. Brenden
  2. Since i'm the only college student in a 10 mile radius....its unlikely. but good thinkin don! Rod was gonna check about gettin me some receviers to put together, so i'll be ok. Mom and dad are gonna give me the 98 chevy, and them get a new one. its all good. I'm pretty beat up and bruised up....i'll put up some pics of the car monday or something. Take care, drive safe, wear your seatbelts, watch out for ice! Brenden
  3. seriously, this site is the best thing i've ever found..thank goodness i just happen to stumble upon it one night. made some friends, learned alot, its a good thing. Brenden
  4. the guns may have to wait. totaled my car on the way to school yesturday. It wasn't pretty brenden
  5. Mike, i'm a tid bit confused here. Do you have an A-square, or the wildcat 338-06? I seeing (or maybe i'm not understanding what i'm seeing), a slight variance between the two, the degrees off the shoulder. hence i'm wondering about using standard 06 brass, because of the diffrence a-square standardized. I'm confusing my self here.lol. help me understand what i don't brenden
  6. gettin my income tax back in about a month...now if i could just have sarco get back to me. brenden
  7. Kenak2, I found that site that American Rifleman did on the 338 fed. Its a good preformer and certainly surprised me. I still like that 338-06, blastically there pretty cool. Mike, Nice guns, both are good looking rifles. I wasn't aware of the shaw barrels in 338 fed. I've been looking at the Shilen barrles. A bit pricy as you know but i've heard good on them. Any body had any dreadful expirences with them? My A&B has preformed quite well for me, but i'd like to try something diffrent. As to the loading Mike, do you just reform 06 brass? Brenden
  8. I believe I should re-quote my last statment. J.B, no offense was ment towards you, and i didn't mean to make it sound like all jap rifles would blow you up. I just selected the wrong wording. John Pierpont Morgan bought inproperly made rifles, not last ditch. Headspace, bolt problems and so on. Hence the missing thumb, head or other extrimidies. A japaneese intrest me, maybe at a gun show around here i'll be able to pick one up with out spending a fortune. What kind of price range are these guns going for J.B? The 30-06 reaming out, wow, don't think i'd want to touch one, esp. if there not done right. What kind of pressures do the 7.7's operate at? Brenden
  9. Thanks Kenak2. The 338 federal is a fine little pice of lead, but i think i'm going to opt for a 338-06, or a whelen. Like me and tanglewood were talking, the 338 fed doesn't have any barrles out yet so i'd about have to go w/a blank or iter a savage barrle and possibly re-thred. I don't want all that trouble, and don't really want to put Rod through it, (well i do because hes always rubbin his purchases in my face!)lol. Adams and Bennet has a 338-06 avaliable, and thank goodness for lee, they provide me with a set of cheap but effective dies. Just a question though, hornady uses the regular 06 case necked up to 338, while sierria uses the a square version, with a 17^o, 16', verses the hornady's 17^o 30'. what does all this mean? Don't know much about this cartrige as you can tell, but i like the ballistics Does one just usually re-form 06 brass to this cal, or do most just use regular and pricy a-square brass? Thanks. Brenden
  10. hey guyes. I've got a question. I was wanting to do a 35 whelen project but i'm kinda backin off of her now and i've been looking at the .338 cal. I like the 35, but the .338 bullets are pretty cool and larger selection as you all know. Any body know anything about the 338 federal? I looked up some loads and there right in line w/the 35, so i'm considering it. Also, what about a 338-06? I'm just lookin for a big-hole gun w/out alot of kick....don't need it but it may come in useful some day Thanks Brenden
  11. Like I told J.B, last ditch, heck most of these "last ditch" rifles were better made than what some of these companies are putting out today. I believe it was John Pierpont Morgan (don't quote me on that) that made his fortune selling last ditch rifles, and imperfect guns to troops, bought them for $2 and sold for $23. The worst thing they did was blow the thumb off the shooter every now and then. I don't know if i could live thumbless or not.lol. Although J.B has really got me intrested in the Jap rifles. Brenden
  12. Brenden

    Wow.

i find it hard to see this in a news paper. Most try to dress it up a lillte bit more instead of being so blunt and lacking finess. all well, good read, though it tends (to me anyway), to protray the angry white man as the back woods red neck that lies through his tooth. all though i do wish Hill would end up under-neath a freshly built hill. Brenden
  13. Dave, My over priced hand holder tells me its not safe to be under stress and handle a firearm. Becarful and don't hurt urself, and hopefully the paper won't return fire. Brenden
  14. dagone. If i gotta wait 7 months, i'll get my mosin out, they don't wanna meet him...lol. waterdogz, i don't have ffl or C&R, i just call and my ffl dealer gives me the account # and i order....works for me. Brenden
  15. Nice Dave, go blast away my friend. Will somebody be my Valentine? I'm lonely and all the girls say i'm skinny, ugly, and nobody loves me. i feel so unloved....lol Brenden
  16. walnut, Dave is fine. We e-mail back and forth, i usually get an email from him every day. Gettin ready to do some horse trading with him matter of fact. He's been pretty busy building a storage shed by his house and getting everything moved into it. I'll tell him to craw out from under the lumber and get on here. Brenden
  17. whats wrong with that karl...lol. Fences are not hunting. buddy of mine wanted me to go hunt a fenced in area w/him. a whoppin 2 arcers full of big bucks. A 120 class buck was 1500 and a 150 class was like around 5 grand....i told him i'd rather kill a spike every year for the rest of my life...now i prob. will. Fences give hunters a bad name. Brenden
  18. Gearyr, How was that timmey to install? I've heard some say its a pia because of the timmey's havin a higher sear. really like your rifle...plan to do one like that some day Brenden
  19. astounding work. I really like that stock and rear sight. Very nice work Brenden
  20. put a few on the ground. good luck Brenden
  21. z, thanks alot for your info. Like hearing your expertice I see what you mean about the intermiedate's. A standard would be nice to set the bullets out a little. Plus it would give me more stocks to play with. I may go w/a bob improved, be sometihing diffrent. Thanks to all that gave advice. I need to call and get some actions comin my way. Brenden
  22. Mike, I looked at the sierria book, it shows a 100 fps gain. Is Building an AI really worth it? I kinda think that my 25-06 does everything the AI does and more, even though the 2506 has more wasted space and a longer COL. Do the AI's have a tendiceny to be more accurate? Or is the AI just something to talk about? Elobrate on the substantial gains in a standard lenght action for me please. Brenden
  23. Az, hang in there and fight. don't ever let it get you down. When your down and give up, your time will become short. I've watched alot of family and friends give up, the will to fight left them, and so did they leave us. Take care and thank God every day your here. Your a fighter. Walnut, I wouldn't have my neck drilled on for a few days w/ the J.C higgins...lol. Get to feeling better. Wish all well. Think alot of you dudes. Brenden
  24. I've heard some say the 257 ai will out preform and some say it won't. really, its all about saying i shoot an "Ackley Improved" yeeee haw wopdi do. A regular bob would suit me. I'm just a fan of the intermidiate's cuz of thats what i've already got and i've had good luck with em. I put a intermidiate in a regular 98 stock, (at the time i didn't know better), it doesn't look bad, just alot of work involved in fitting, and the fitting may not be proper, but it shoots dam good. As far as stock choices, i know their limited, but the ones they offer (sporterexpress.com) i like. so no biggie. I'll get a regular standard length as soon as the pay check comes, or somebody buys my winchester. < hint hint. Brenden Clem: get him to post some stocks, i may be in the market soon. Anybody got any snythetic stock pinned down for a intermidate? havn't seen any that i can remember
  25. Thanks Rod. K-kale may be a good canidate for an 8mm-06 or something eles i find. The 257 improved isn't really improved vs the regular 257, according to Hornady handbook. If i didn't allready have a 25-06, i'd do that. I'd like to go to something big, but don't really need it, my 30-6 and 7 mag will handle anything i plan to hunt. It may be time to add a 7x57 to the arsnel. I'll figure out what cal to use when i recieve my actions, for right now i'm looking, money is still tough. Brenden
