  1. I've broadened my horizons’ and started in on checkering gun stocks. All I've done thus far is practice on military stocks; you don't really think I'd touch a sporter do you? I'm far from perfect, or good for that matter.

Anyway, I'm looking for patterns to transfer to my stocks. Nothing fancy or complicated, just simple patterns. Do you gentlemen find your lay out patters on the net or make your own? If you know of any places on the net, please post a link. Also, any helpful tricks of the trade would be appreciated. Thanks!

  2. How tough is the swing safety to install with out a milling machine? I know its most likely do-able, but most likely tough as well isn't it? Anybody have any pics showing how they are installed? Thanks.

  4. Heath, I am offended by your avatar. I feel that you are taking advantage of this pretty young woman who is oblivious to the fact that her picture is being showed a million times a day while she is mearly adjusting her top. You should be ashamed, I can't believe you would show a picture of my mother like that. Oh the humanity.

  5. What ever one shoots a deer with, well that is their choice and I see nothing wrong with a smokepole with a scope, or using heat seaking bullets, or a nuke. All of these modern conviences, make hunting more humane. That scope helps someone (like me) that can't see open sights as well as i used too. Scope=less wounded deer. Thats pratical.

Modern muzzloaders, you still load them one at a time, have one shot, lots of smoke, chance of a misfire..yada yada. I have a inline,.54 cal T/C, open sights. I can see them well sice they are fiber optic, maximum range is 100 yards for me. Past that i'm done. If i had a scope, 100 yards would be max. I live for those 30 yard and closer shots w/a smokepole. None of these muzzloaders are what they used to be,(ie. 10 shots at 20 yards in a 30" group) hell even the flintlocks now days are damn accurate. That i am thankful for, accuracy = humane kills.Humane kills gives me more bragging rights than anything. We as hunters are always being labled as rednecks/in-humane F***ers, unethical a-holes, the list goes on. Its good to see someone use everything to their advantage to ensure quick, ethical kills.

  6. Hello Gentlemen. Thought I would post some pics of a build that I am currently working on. It started life as a yugo 24/47 (intact and not too shabby either). So far I have completed the following..all work done by yours truely ;)

    1. Welded a new bolt handle on- Its a Callahan- yeah I finally got around to notching the reciever-and finished shaping the bolt..

    2. D&T'ed for Leupold 2 piece mounts- FN reverseable

    3. Put a adams and bennet 21" .308 pipe on her- Not yet chambered

    4. Added a Dayton Traister trigger and saftey.

    5. Re-countoured the trigger guard.

    6. Fitted it to a Boyd's Pepper Laminate Stock-got to finish shaping it..

All thats left is set headspace, Dura-coat in stainless steel, and add a button release on the floor plate, and kill a few deer with her. She is a joy to lift, very nice light gun, and good looking if I don't say so myself. Enjoy.

  7. You boys dodged a big one there. There is no reason to abuse a Mauser bolt like that when altering a bolt handle. You absolutely need to protect the lugs and the cocking cam from the heat. I don't know if it was ignorance or laziness, but it could have ended up a bit more tragically than it did.

I would revisit the load used too.

    Spiris

Go back and re-read Spiris. The above story was a bunch of BS that Tanglewood and I came up with, just f-ing around. I also stated in my second post that this gun belonged to one of Tanglewoods friends. This isn't my bolt, I didn't weld it, I didn't load it. Just for sake of confusion, I will edit the first post.

  8. This isn't my bolt/problem.lol. Rod has the full story on his friends encounter, he just had me load the pics.

Look at where the lugs were. Looks like it was pretty brittle doesn't it? Maybe a little too much heat treatment, and casued it to get overaly hard? When he told me this it blew my mind, don't think of this ever happening....

  9. Sorry to hear about Tawny, Karl. Pets are family, and over the years my cat has become my bud, and i didn't even think too much of cats, untill she bit me when I picked her up of the side of the road.(she was just a fur ball then) It was love at first bite.

Atleast Tawny went at home and no suffering involved. Sorry for your loss.

  10. That is neat as can be. I have never heard of this, such ingenuity. Now for a dumb question. When you seat these bullets, the paper, does it not get distorted or tore? Or when you expand the neck with the die, does that just make them sit in there snug with out distortion? (hope you get what i'm asking lol)

Nice boar by the way and 9.3 for that matter!
