    Glass Bedding

One bedding material that I have fell in love with is Devcon Steel putty. So much easier to work with, no running everywhere, hard as heck but very managable. Kind of expensive though, $35 a pound. Never heard of PC-7, let us know how it turns out. Paste wax as a relese agent? Never gave that any thought. Stupid question but is this stuff a car wax or what? Brenden
  2. Sorry that i am late as well. Hope everything went well and she makes a speedy recovery. Hope your doing well too Dave. Brenden
  3. Put a recoil pad on that thing! Don't ya all know they kick a little? Neat idea. Think I'll make something like that and mount it on my 4-wheeler for ground hog hunting. Brenden
  4. Good to hear he is doing well. Tell him to take it easy and to get to feeling better soon. Brenden
  5. Since Jackon was mostly plastic, they are going to melt him down and make him in to Lego's so all the little boys can play with him now. What does K-mart and Jackson have in common? Young kids clothing half off. Just had to add. I know its wrong. darn you Az. Brenden
  6. Very nice looking gun. As always, you did a wonderful job on the blue. Disregard Don, hes just too picky Brenden
  7. Well after standing on roof's so far this summer, I finally got a good job. The gas company wasn't going to hire anybody this summer because of the economic crunch but i managed to find an inspection company that works through the gas company I used to be employed for. So i start Monday!!!! The money is execellent, more than $300 a DAY! So we all know what that means, more guns! I also managed to weld on a bolt today. For my first one, it doesn't look to bad and it is functional. Just need to clean it up and then go back and fill in any pits or other bad spots. Been a good week. Brenden

    New Rabbit Gun

Those bunnies are kinda cute. Thats a good find for a pretty good price. Now the serious part. The load for rabbits is nothing less than a 180 gr. chunk of lead and as much IMR 4350 as one can stuff in the case. They are hard to put down and I myself never hunt them with anything less than a 7mag. Its not funny to have a whole family of them running at you with teeth chomping. Especially if they are rabbid rabbits. Bad news bunnies. Its a jungle out there Rojelio, God be with you. Brenden
  9. Thats the coolest thing since sliced bread! Man, i like that, thats sweet. What type of enfield is that (SMLE)? With a conversion like that, I'm sure your about the only one around that has one. How difficult was it? Makes me wish i would have picked the one that BUBBA did get ahold of up for a mear sum of $50! Good job. Brenden
  10. Glad your ok Rob. Sucks to hear about your vehicle, but they make em' everyday, people are a one time thing. Brenden
  11. Take action wrench and put over action. place barrel in barrel vise and tighten. Do the same to action wrench (not too tight now!) Barrel comes off. Clean reciever, make sure its serviceable, put in jig and drill and tap. Buy new barrel in 25-06,6.5-06, 338-06....etc....what ever you like. see where i'm going lol....its a nice gun, very nice and clean, somebody may have spiffed it up a little. May be a good one to sport, if its a russian capture. May possibly be a mitchells mauser, but I don't believe it is, hard to tell though. All matching is hard to find these days which adds to the value. The decision is yours Brian. It would be a tough decision, just don't make it one you will regret. Save as is and ten years down the road, its there if you want to sport it. Just giving you some hell, don't pay attention to me. Brenden
  12. Dave Hate to hear that the sugery didn't take. Wish you the best and hopefully things will go your way. I need to give you a call one of these days. Just never get a chance. Its all work and no play around here . Take care buddy. Brenden
  13. Well done. I've often thought of ways to make a jig to lap lugs, beats paying the price for a jig. Very nicely done. Seems to me that your way would be more accurate verses the plunger method with the barrel taken off. Your method takes everything into account. Now for the question. By laping the lugs, you *possibly* removed a bit of the harding layer. Do you plan to re-heat treat, or shoot as is? I'm just wondering and learning. Brenden
  14. all i can say is miller lite. As soon as I got my I.D re-newed, off to walmart for an 18 pack. Think i'll drink a few tonight for sucessfuly passing all my classes this sesmester. Never did get into home brewing. Did some home grown once upon a time, but i didn't inhale. Brenden
  15. Happy Birthday! Brenden
  16. Thanks guyes. I had this build in mind just for the possibility of going elk hunting some day. That and i just wanted a "large" bore gun. I'm not much into the big mags, i've got a 7 mag and its enough. This gun will do anything i would put the .338 mag up to with less kick and less powder. I plan to try it out on WV deer as soon as season comes in or the freezer gets empty, which ever comes first Shooting wise, i'm a bit disapointed but its my own fault. It averages 1" to 1.5" at 100 yards. Thats ho hum. It can do better. But I realized my problem, and I knew this all along but hey i got in a hurry. The reciever is silightly stressed due to poor stock fit. I hate that stock with a passion, its a piece of S**t to be up front about it, basically had to re-inlet the whole thing, and i'm still not good at that, but learning. Also glass beded the crap out of it. So with some more work, I'd say 1/2" groups arn't out of the question. My load that i've worked up to is IMR 4350- 60.5 grains, win cases, cci 200 lr primers, and a hornady 200 grain interbond seated at 3.339. Its a thumper for sure. Lesson learned: don't buy stocks of E-bay that are made by a shade tree stock maker. You get what you pay for. Brenden
  17. "At least two stroke engines are not illegal in Phoenix yet so I best get a new one while the pickings are still good. I used a 4 cycle trimmer a couple of months ago and it was gutless. I returned it to Lowes, bought a cheapie 2 cycle Robyi for 20+ less." Az, I bought a new stil 110 weedeater here about 3 years ago. It was one of those new fangled 4 cycles that everyone raved about. Started it up and thought, man this thing sucks! I was wrong, its the best darn weedeater i've ever run. Its a lot easier on the hands than the big 250 i usually run, better fuel econmony, and quiet, and it will just about cut anything the 250 will. In the summer time, i run a weedeater alot, alot of 12 hour non-stop days. That little 4 stroke is the ticket. I'm kinda partial to the 4 strokes now. Brenden
  18. Congrads to both you and your wife. Brenden
  19. BR primers are "bench rest" primers. susposed to give a more uniform ignition and can be used as a subistute for most standard primers (cci BR4 can be used in place of a CCI small rifle primer) . Military primers, i have no knowledge of these, didn't know cci made them.almost anyother military round, the primers have a crimp, which if you want to use military cases you have to take the crimp out of the primer pocket for it to accept a standard primer. I know some military rounds have crimped primers and some don't. But i've never heard of CCI offering military primers. Are they special made for mil rounds to be crimped in? Brenden
  20. Good looking rifles LL. That 30-06 is a very nice build, and the 25, wow. Everything on that rifle is a work of art, from the bolt, stock, to the blue. Beautiful, everything just flows together and looks great. Brenden
  21. I looked at the pics of the bolt, holy cow! Those bumps are just small particles. Hardly noticable in person. Thats what i get for dura-coating in a wind storm, but hey, thats the only day that wasn't 20 and snow on the ground! Next in line is my dads sweed in 6.5x55, a yugo 24/47 .308, a mex 1910 in 257 Roberts or an Ackley improved version, and then the 93 in 7x57. I'm hooked. I am anxious to do more, I feel I have alot of room for improvement in craftsmanship and action choice. The rem action isn't bad, it was the most economical at the time before I had some tools. Soon I will be able to D/T my own. Brenden
  22. Here is my first build. The 338-06 Bolt by Tanglewood (Rod) American Rifle Works shroud Bold Trigger and saftey Drop Box From Sporter Express A&B Barrel Dura Coat Gun Blue P.O.S stock from E-bay (took alot of work and bedding) Head-spaced by me. Big thanks to Rod for the bolt work, and Tinker5 for letting me borrow the gauges. Theres also a pic to show just how happy I am with my first build. Brenden
  23. Thats un-real. Glad the Prof is getting a good reaming. The college I go to, hunting, fishing, shooting guns; its a way of life. Heck, the other day, the forestry club had a trap/skeet shoot. About 12 of us all with our shotguns went down to the school range and had a good time. Even one of the college public saftey officers was there and put some clay pigions up on the range and shot his 45 on some hanging clay targets. To which we all joined in my my buddies .40. We go down there all the time and try out hand-loads, shoot 22's, and everynow and then, get the public saftey officer to shoot one of our 7mm's or 300's. Like one of them told me, " We don't care about you guyes from around here. We just get nervous when these fellows from out of state come down here knowing nothing about a gun and start shooting at anything that moves." He then told me about a guy that was shooting 9mm's out of his .40. But all it takes is one person's stupidity to ruin everything. The Prof story, that just goes to show how our society thinks. People just don't think like they used to.
  24. Looking through my Sierra loading book, they only go up to the 168 matchking. Seems to me that something with an equal or slightly slower burn rate than Re-15 or IMR 4064 is prefered for the 130 grainers and below. Beyond that, up to the 168, they recommend IMR 4350 for almost all their loadings, hunting and accuracy. I can't see why Sierra wouldn't list the 175 in their book, military loadings were 2300 FPS with a 173 roundnose. Surely the 175 would expand and preform at those velocities, given shots wern't taken at long range and on something as tough as steel? Brenden
