  1. A few years back, I had a dog that swallowed parts of a deer that I had shot. I just figured he had some hair matted up inside of him. Come to find out, he had swallowed a small sharp piece of bone that had sliced open his stomach and small intestine. He didn't make it through surgery. Hated to see that old dog go, he was my buddy for the first 17 years of my life. Partaly deaf, and couldn't see well, but followed me everywhere i went and did everything I ask of him and more. 2. You didn't visit with much did you? Sorry Don, had to do it. Brenden
  3. I'll have some pictures up later. I hate to post with out it being dura coated. Need to re-wire my air compresser and i'll have it done. Wish this weather would warm up, i figure dura coat could get "gloopy" when its this dam cold. Yea, my cherry has been poped, lol. Me ain't scared no more....till the next one. Brenden
  4. As we all know, that poor woman that just had eight (freakin 8) more kids is going to have a hard time paying all those monsterous bills. Have no fear, help is on the way. While driving to class this morning, on the news I heard of a great plan to help this woman. Some porn industary has felt sorry for the woman, and has noticed she tried to make herself look more like Angelina Jolie (i can't spell worth piss). So they offered her a job. She is to do a few porn scenes, possibly a movie or two and they will pay off all her debts. Gone, no more bills. The one movie is already in the works. It is entitled " Eight Eggs With No Sausage". I plan to buy a copy or three when it comes out on DVD. Brenden
  5. My dream is to have a gun/archery shop, but its a waste of time. One shop just down the road closed up about a month ago. The other is still hanging on but sales are dwindling. People are just getting out of that mind set of hunt for fun, hunt for food. Its a sad change. Dad and I have talked about opening up a business after he retires (if he gets too). Power washing houses is a huge thing in the cities. People always want their homes to look the best. Landscaping is another money getter. That was my dream to go to school for that, but the college i wanted to go to didn't have it, so Environmental Science fit the bill. Thats another thing thats booming, environmental fields, oil and gas and the like. I can't give good advice on a paying job, hell i only work durning the summers and when i've got time off from school. One could get into these fields mentioned above, work for a company for a while and learn the tricks of the trade, and possibly get a sheet of paper in that field. Then get your contractors liscense, and work the rest of your life. Sometimes though, its better to quietly under your breath about how you hate your job and your boss knows nothing, but they give you a pay check so you show up again on monday for the rest of your life and then you hit the age of retirement, open up a gun shop and do what you've always wanted to. Thats how i've got it figured, and i figure on doing just that Brenden
  6. The topic pretty much explaines it all. I recieved my bolt from Rod (which is beautiful), and as soon as I got home from class, I opened up the stock for the bolt. Later that night I took my reciever over to the neighbors house and calmed my nerves down and set headspace. Bolt closes with light resistance on the go, and doesn't close on the no go! Tinker, Thanks for letting me borrow the gauges! It took me about an hour to stamp the barrel and to ream. Being my first time, I was scared to death! But i did it, and at 9:30 last night, two shots rang out from the 338-06! I'm a happy dude. I've learned alot on this forum, I mean alot! Met some nice people, and made a few friends. I'd like to say a thing or two about a person in particular. Tanglewood, (Rod) has sat on phone with me as i ask him everything imagable from trigger problems to headspace. He has provided me with a no B.S answer everytime. I give him the credit for making this possible, basically He is the only reason this is possible, he's told me how to do everything imaginable and is a very good friend. Like i told him today on the phone, i've learned almost everything from him, and i appericate his willingness to help. With out his help, I'd still be buying rem's or a savage! As to the rest of those that helped me with various problems, thanks a lot. This is a good place to learn. Now to get back to my stock, the tru oil is being applied, and hopefully next week, duracoat will cover the metal. Brenden
  7. As you have seen, family can or will be the first to screw you over. Hope everything works out for the both of you. I thought she was living with you in your place Rob? Brenden
  8. That is a very nice rifle indeed. You did very well Vlad. Theres nothing wrong with a 30-06, but man, you have to admit, wouldn't it be nice if it was a 7x57 or something along those lines? That bolt handle is beautiful, and like Ron, a butterknife has been on my mind for some time. My oveido just may aquire one, just gotta get the cash for my bolt! Very nice, in fact outstanding find. Brenden
  9. I've got some bullets for my 338-06 as well. Some hornady 200 grs w/the crimp groove, and a box of nosler 200 gr flat base b-tips w/out the crimp. I crimped the hornady's and neck tension has the b-tips. My neck tension seems to be sufficent, if not pretty tight. Also, i'm loading compressed loads on the b-tips w/no crimp groove, not too sure it can really go any where. I've never had a problem with bullets seating deeper on, say my 30-06 but i'm sure it could happen. Are you guyes suggesting the lee factory crimp on a bullet with no cannulear (sp?)? I always thought one wasn't susposed to try to crimp a non cannulear bullet because you could score the bullet? Or does it lightly supply more neck tension w/out the scoring? Brenden

    Today

I am sorry for your loss Rob. Atleast you got to be there with her and see the pain end. The good Lord will take care of her. Prayers for you and your family. Brenden
  12. Thanks Don. I am the proud owner of a 1910. Brenden
  13. Noslers new #6 reloading data says that out of a 24'' Lilja barrel with the max load of IMR 4350 (slowest powder they list) and a 200 grain bullet, top velocity is 2698fps at 107% case fill. Take that add 30 fps per inch (they say 30-50 fps gain in each inch, maybe more maybe less?) and whamo. I don't think you could get top velocity with slow burning powders and large bullets, not enough space. with numbers like IMR 4895 or 4064, you can reach a top velocity of 2638 with the same bullet at a slightly less 97% case fill. Possibly higher pressure though. To no surprise they list the 8mm-06 at 55.5 grains IMR 4350 MAX at a velocity of 2668? I can never understand this, more case capacity, less or maybe 50 fps faster. Brenden I take no responsiblity in one starting at these listed loads and having their rifle spit a bolt back at them, thats why they are in BLACK BOLD THEY ARE MAX!
  14. Thanks Bob. Mine is a flat bottom. PM sent. What models of spanish were round? From what i seem to understand the 1916 spanish was flat? I'm not keen on these spanish or mexicans, I'm not even sure what model mexican i have. What is the diffrence between a 1910 and a 1936? Both actions are in good shape with no pitting, but the bores are a bit dark. The mex is the worst, it needs cut and re-crowned, and the spanish is decient shape bore wise. Thanks guyes. Brenden
  15. Hey guyes, got a question. I have an Ovedio (SP?) barreled reciever and need a bolt. Unless my memory is lacking, there was two types of bolts for the Spanish guns, flat bottom and regular rounded. Do these actions take the flat or round? or am i completely off target as ususal? Thanks. Brenden
  16. I've got a german barrel laying around thats in good shape. I keep pondering the idea of seting it up on a good action. but then again, i've got a fine specimen of an M48 that i dearly love, but i just can't bring myself to drill and tap it. Decesions. Same with my 1891 argie, i just can't cut on it. Plus my dad would kill me, he bought it when he was 16, and hes now 62. Its had 3 boxes of shells through it, and its mint. he gave it to me a few years ago when i became intrested in mausers, so i can't chop on it. Should have bought one a few years ago when prices were still relatively cheap. Now the 1891s are going high IMO. Brenden
  17. Wheew.... I was scared. Thank you and the same to you. Brenden

    Mig Welding?

I will most likely never live this down but anywho... I'm going to start doing my own bolts and odd jobs around here at the farm. I have an old Lincoln buzz box...220. It needs a new set of leads, and i'm good to go. This is going to be my tool for bolt work. Currently I don't have the money for a tig, nor the know how or experience to operate one. I used to be pretty handy with a stick welder (about 5 years ago ) I believe if you take your time, get the right stingers for the job, and know what the hell your doing, you'll be alright. I've always told myself, if can't afford to pay somebody to do the work for me, i'd better get my stuff and learn to do it myself if i'm gonna contuine to build rifles. Its a learning process. I've seen bolts welded on with less and they some how hold. A mig will do the job too, my last one was done with that, they dude just wouldn't listen to how i wanted it and did it his way, thats why Rod has it. other than that it would be there till the cows come home. Brenden
  19. I just wonder how much this trigger will set one back? Most likely more than the gun is worth, as in the case with all after market mosin parts. I need to find a decient barrel or complete gun so i can ither put a new barrel on or just sport a new one. 2 set in my gun safe. one in execellent condition, and the other with a rough bore...decesions..... Brenden
  20. Happy Birthday Riceone. Brenden
  21. That pic of him on the streacher, he doesn't look too good. Darn that would be a bad day. Brenden
  22. As for pinching the front ring the only advise I'll add to what has already been said is to make sure your action wrench fits the receiver perfectly and stay away from the universal ones that have a vee to fit any flat bottomed action. -Don There is my problem and i've known this but tried any way. Mine is a universial. I'll get a better one soon or maybe talk somebody into making one since i have no way of doing it. I did get some progress tonight, took off my first charger hump. looks darn good, but not as good as some i've seen on here. Practice makes perfect and i'm venturing out and doing my best. lol Brenden
  23. Happy B-day Kenny! Have a good one. Brenden
  24. wow, learned a good bit. Thanks Z for that food for thought. One could fashion up about anthing to help keep distortion from occuring, but i've learned proper tooling and paticence is the only way so that i don't f-up any more.I know lifes too short, but hey, i fudged it now i want to fix it. If nothing else it will be a good learing tool for me. Tinker, got you 100%. I'd never thought of that, its logical. Between the barrel stub and the shims if one needed it, would kind of act like a press, except in an opposite manner, expansion instead of compaction. Good idea and thanks. Have faith i'm learning..... Brenden
