  1. Check with IDT in Ohio, last I checked you can get a nice douglas barrel installs for about the price as a (puke) shaw. They must buy alot of barrels to get that price the installed price is close to retail on a douglas blank directly from douglas.

    http://www.itdcustomgun.com/

    Don

Don, why does the thought of a shaw barrel nauseate you? I was just about to order one for a 1917. I don't see the 1917 barrels on itd's website.

    Thanks

  2. I bought the caswell kit.

I soaked the parts in evaporust to remove the blue.

I got too busy and let the parts soak for a week. it is non-acidic, and can be applied as a rust preventative.

I blasted the parts with 80 grit glass beads, scrubbed in detergent, rinsed in distilled water, washed in genuine TSP, rinsed in distilled water, pickled in HCL, rinsed in distilled water, and plated in kit for 1 hour. followed all instructions, wore nitrile dish gloves, blah blah blah.

all parts but the trigger, alignment sleeve, and safety came out beautiful.

I redid the 3 parts, with an extra careful glass beading and an extra-long acid pickle and an extra-thorough rinse. they came out OK at best.

glass beading was not matte enough for my likes. I decided I did not like it.

so I blasted a part to see how durable the finish was, maybe I could knock the shine down a bit. the nickel flake off easily.

    what a waste of $125.

the nicked displayed very poor adhesion except for one small area on the bolt body.

I have no idea what I did wrong. two screws that never saw evaporust fared no better - the nickel came right off.

It's all blasted back down. I will now sandblast and cerakote it.

oh well. I always wanted to try it.

  3. The Constitution was made for the American people and anyone who can read a decent history book, can with a bit of effort, understand its meaning and intent.

true enough, but to what end? if it is not to apply the constitution to today's laws and circumstances, then it is nothing more than a historical lark. might as well read "Common Sense" by stinky thomas paine. interesting, but not operative by itself, not anymore.

about the only thing in the constitution to be usefully understood by the layman, using nothing more than the constitution itself, is the 3rd amendment. just about everything else has been applied enough over time to require some sophisticated education to usefully argue. which joe blow does not have unless he is a lawyer or the like. and while there are indeed too many lawyers these days, they are still a distinct minority of the population.

furthermore, even back in 1789, the constitution was not meant for every man. most people were illiterate; hence representative form of government and the electoral college.

the fact that the constitution itself can be understood these days by somebody who applies themself to that end does not mean most people "know how to use it." they can learn to do so, but most have not.

I can read and understand medical texts, but woe unto him whom I would operate on. similarly, I have a pretty good grasp on nucular matters and understand what I read, but if I were to try and apply nucular physics we would all look like blinky the fish in short order.

  4. I can argue it with Obama as can any American who reads it.

The Constitution was NOT meant to be complex

anybody can argue the constitution, but that does not mean they understand it. or are contributing anything but misunderstanding when they do so. sure, the constitution was not meant to be complex, and it really isn't, but that doesn't mean it is simple or easy. recall it was written by educated men of the enlightenment and lawyers. not davy crockett; he served in the legislature. and as you should know, the constitution is only a small part of constitutional law here in our common-law nation. the keysone, to be sure, but one needs to cite more than the constitution when convincing a judge these days.

I am sure you do understand the constitution, but "any American" joe blow almost certainly does not have a working knowledge of it. just like I almost certainly cannot usefully argue the finer points of whatever it is joe blow does for a living.

  5. bear in mind that obama has not yet been elected, so neither has biden. the electoral college does not cast its votes until december sometime.

mccain could be president, but that would be a nightmare. there would be rioting this time, complaining of a stolen election, and it would look bad indeed.

I suppose that if there was time, the dems could nominate hillary right away and hope the college votes her in.

  6. ... As far as I'm concerned, there's a thin swath of states that deserve the lives of the U.S. military, and the rest don't deserve anything.

not true. look at a county map instead. there are many, many right-thinking people who don't end up with a state-wide voice. the county maps are much redder than the state maps.

  7. M95 long rifle.

    mannlicher design.

made by steyr and the hungarians.

original caliber 8x50R, most rechambered to 8x56R. if rechambered, there will be a big S on the barrel shank.

check the bore, they can be bad.

all surplus ammo is corrosive. 8x50R is not common. 8x56R is not uncommon, but not cheap, usually at least $0.75/rd.

they require clips to shoot, the surplus usually comes on them.

    hornady makes new ammo.

bullets are 0.329, so 8mm does not work. the 8x50R ammo used 0.323 bullets, but they were cup-based so they expanded to the bore.

grafs has the brass and bullets, and lee makes a correct mold.

they are neat guns, I have one and like it, but mine is the short rifle. they shoot a 205-gr bullet at 2400 fps or so, not bad. many people think they kick like a mule, but not me.

  8. Where my confusion stems is from her still wanting continued contact. To say that I ignored emails, which occured after the Dear John, is to her, showing I didn't care. I don't understand the point of continued talk. It almost seems a way of stalking. I guess it is just her way of justifying what she did.

it may be that she feels bad and wants to soothe her conscience, it may be that she wants to pin it on you, it may be that she wants to look better in front of her friends, whatever.

just forgive and forget. the people worth having in your life will either not care about what she is doing, or figure it out. all you need to know is that she has her own problems and fortunately, they are still all hers. you escaped *just* in time.

6 months from now you will look back and it will all be much clearer.

  9. flaco, That's called a sideways insult.

no it's not. it's a compliment. newspapers are for suckers who like biased drivel. that, and a few folks use them to stay on top of local events.

the op ed page, of course, is not about local events, but indoctrination. most big paper editors are hopelessly liberal. why would I give a rat's ass what they say, care, or feel? they aren't listening to me, why should I listen to them? the letters to editors are rife with misinformation and misdirection. for instance, the prosecutor mentioned above did not disclose his bias.

uncritical readers might be tempted to take the prosecutor's word that obama is not a terrorist. well gosh if the guy who prosecuted ayers says it's so, it must be true! it IS in the NYT! however, people who are not constrained to newspapers can do a little research and discover that the prosecutor is a biased obama supporter who avoided the real issue by repeating obama's misdirection tactics. so the letter was not written by a prosecutor, but an obama supporter. gosh maybe the letter is not true! ouch my head hurts!
