I have cheated on guns that my jig would not fit and used Quik Steel and a laser bore sighter to stick the scope and mounts then removed the scope and drilled and tapped, Quik Steel sets up really fast, in minutes, so it is helpfull to have another set of eyeballs when positioning the scope and mounts, plus it gives you someone to yell at if it comes out crooked, I have done 2 M N's, a 2a Enfield, a Pachamyr pivot mount on a Garand, and a homemade mount on an L1a1 this way and they all sighted in just fine. Just remember it is easier to pop off the Quik Steeled on mounts and redo, than to weld up and drill new holes.

here are a few I did, Turks on the top and Yugo's on the bottom.

the rear bridge on the receiver was some thick pipe I cut, spread apart and welded to the receiver then drilled and tapped. The front base is a rear weaver for a 98 mauser and the rear base is a front base for a 98 mauser shortened and removed some metal from the bottom.

thanks guys. on the m44 I did cut the bolt handle off and move it back into a slot I cut. cut the stock down and used it as a chasis and built around it with plywood and 3 ceiling fan blades I had but 1/4 inch plywould would work better, then painted the stock with primer, plasti kote fleck stone and then OD krylon. I did a mauser with Kylon stone and OD Krylon but it don't stick as good.
