  1. The Yugo 24/47 I am building for my Daughter was ready to be D&T. I had all 4 holes drilled. The first 3 holes tapped just fine. I screwed the tap into the 4th hole. Then as I was backing the tap out it broke. I can't really complain that it broke. This is the 5 receiver I tapped with that tap. The tap broke flush with the receiver. Brownells says that these taps can be "shattered" if broken off in the screw hole. I figured I would ask for the best way to get it out first. I thought maybe the receiver could be re installed in the D&T fixture. The tap could be drilled out using the correct bushing. I have a 2nd tap to clean up the threads. Any one have any other ideas on how to get it out. Ralph
  2. WOW, that is like a few conversations I've had with my Wife. What seems like a simple solution to me, isn't to her. Ralph
  3. Hey Guy's, I am getting ready to mount a tip and cap on my next project. I have a great piece of Rosewood to use. I can't find a resource for the "white spacer". I have looked on Brownells and Midway, no luck. Am I just missing them. Anyone have a resource of were to get white space material. Thanks Ralph
  4. That's the way I do it also.
  5. A 8mm is 2.24" in length. The 25-06 is a 30-06 necked down to 25 cal. They are the same length as the 35 Whelen, 2.494". The 280 Rem and 270 Win has a case that is a "smidg" more, 2.54". The shoulder of the 280 is moved forward to keep them from being chambered in a 270 by mistake. There is a lot of good choices for a Yugo action. I think any of the 308 family or 8mm Mauser family would be perfect. Ralph
  6. If you want something in 7mm, why not a 7-08. It will cycle through your Yugo without issue. You can load anything up to 160 grain bullets at only a few hundred feet per second less than 280 rem. A 140 grain should be deadly. Good luck and keep up posted. Ralph
  7. A great way to explain that the 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting.
  8. I have been working on this 280 Remington for about 18 months. It is built on a Turk M38 action. Before the details on the rifle a few Thanks are in order. The Bolt handle and Shroud/ wing safety are from Don Markey. Clemson welded the bolt handle on. He also fitted and chambered a Shilen medium weight barrel, cut and crowned to 22". He bead blasted the barreled action for me. I trued the action to .001 across the face. This was done with a lot on measuring with dial calipers and hand files. I know it could have been done on a lathe in a few minuets but I wanted to do it for my self. I also remover the charging hump on the receiver. I did the D&T on the bases. The action is glass bedded front and rear. The chamber area of the barrel is glass bedded and free floated the rest of the way. I glassed the bottom metal and installed a pillar on the back action screw. This is the second stock for this rifle. On the first one I forgot the first rule of Carpentry, "measure twice and cut once". Some how I cut the length of pull short by 3 inches. I don't know what I was thinking or doing. I will have to use this stock for a future build for my Daughter. The current stock is a close out from Richards. It was a right handed action for a left handed shooter. A little time with wood rasps and belt sander took the cheek rest off the right side. The forarm and grip cap is Rosewood. I got a 2" x 2" x 10" from a local custom cabinet store. I shaped it to be smaller than my A-bolt but slightly larger than a Model 70 Feather weight. I know that there are some imperfections, mainly in the finish of the stock. I loaded up some 160 grain bullets I had left from a 7mm Rem mag. I got 1 1/2" at 100 yards with this break in load. I want to load 140 grainers as hunting loads. I am already working on a 308 for my Daughter. Tanglewood welded the bolt handle on already. I will be doing the rest of the work myself. I want to have it ready for her to use for Deer season in Nov 2013. I have resolved to work on it for a few hours on Monday and Wednesday nights. I will also try to hit it a few hours on the week ends. You input is always welcome. Ralph
  9. I sell a bit on e-bay. I had 500 rounds of range picked up 40 S&W brass. I bought a set of Lee dies from Graf's for $38.00. Brass can't be sold on e-bay, they were my "gift" to the buyer. I sold the entire lot for $72.00 plus $11.95 shipping. I am thinking about doing the same with some 9 mm, 270 Win. and 223 brass I have. I shoot 9 and 223. but might get some good cash for them. I have never had any use for a 270 got most of it in a lot of reloading stuff a few years back.
  10. OMG!!!! "Is it a Robot terrorist?" "I just voted for him because He's black". If there was only a Pan-Demmic that would kill off the stupid and uninformed we wouldn't need the Sequester.
  11. I have been reloading for more than 25 years. I have plenty loaded ammo and components to keep me shooting for a while. Rite now the cost and supply of components are getting almost as hard to find as loaded ammo. My local Graf's store is limiting primers to 1 tray of 100 per customer. It's close enough ( on my way home from work ) to stop in a few times a week and stock up. I have 2k+ reserve on all primers, magnum and regular. Bullet selection is the big issue now. I buy what I can when they have it in stock. Good Luck everyone. Ralph
  12. My order from Brownells arrived yesterday. It contained a set of roll pin punches, Novak Trijacon sights and a Kickeez recoil pad. Yep a 1/16th. worked. The front sight slid rite out when the pin was driven out. I have to do some major fitting to get the new one in installed. The rear was held in place with a set screw. I had to drift it out when the screw was loosened.. The new sight just slid in place. Now all that remains is the get to the range and dialed it in. Ralph
  13. I have been doing some "upgrades" to my Sig Sauer C3 1911. So far I cleaned up the gritty trigger and installed a ambi safety. The next thing I need to do is install a set of Tritum sights. The rear looks to be straight forward. It has a set screw in a dove tail slot. The front has a roll pin. It runs through the sight and all the way through the slide. I ordered a set of roll pin punches along with the replacement sights from Brownells. If the smallest punch is still to big for the pin then what. How hard is it to drill out a roll pin? If I have to drill it should the new one be lock-tighted in place? Any one have any have a better idea than drilling? Thanks Ralph
  14. I stopped in at my local Graff's reloading ( a cousin of the online retailer) store yesterday. They had a of shot shell primers. There were some S&B large pistol primers on shelf. I picked up 500. When checking out the clerk asked if there was any thing else I needed? I told him some small pistol primers if they had any. He reached under the counter and put up 1 tray of 100 S&B small p.p.. I asked if I could but 2 trays? He said no everyone is limited to 100. I reminded him that I have been a loyal customer for more than 20 years and would like at least 2 trays. "Sorry but this is all I can sell you today." The owner Mike Graf was actual at the store and I called him over. He recognized me and asked what I needed. I asked him if I could get an additional tray of small p.p.. He gave the clerk a "your a dumb ass look" and said "he's a long term customer sell him 3 trays". I shook his hand an said thanks. I don't know the quality of S&B primers. I guess I will find out soon enough. I do know I drive past Bass Pro and spend a little more to support customer service of a local business man. Ralph
  15. I'm not looking to buy a new firearm anytime soon. Still playing with my SP101 in 327 fed., Sig Sauer GSR 1911 in 45 acp and Glock G20 in 10mm. All bought within the last 6 months or so. I am kind of set on reloading supplies. Only out of standard small pistol primers. I do have plenty of most needed components.
  16. Didn't some Turks ( Model 83 I think ) originally have a shorter length mag box. They got re-chambered to 8x57. New trigger guards and mag were installed at that time. If I remember correctly they were still standard length action, just different bottom metal. One from that model might work. If not save the Turk for a later build and find a Yugo action to build the 243 on.
  17. Just taking his Boyfriend out for a walk on the Boardwalk.
  18. Just hearing that speech again gave me Goose Bumps. I meet him when MO. was trying to get concealed carry passed. What a great American he was. I will do my part not to let him down. Ralph
  19. According to Bear Grills "they taste great roasted over an open fire". You could have turned it into a late night snack
  20. Kind of off topic but, I just installed an ambi safety on my Sig C3 1911. Being a lefty it needed one so I could carry concealed. I watched a u-tube video on how to fit it. Not as difficult as I thought it would be.
  21. I finally picked up a Glock. My choice was a G20C. This is a full sized (15 round) 10mm comped model. The first range session was fun. I will have to find more load data for the 10mm but was very impressed with the firepower. Ralph
  22. IDK but I think it is a dog.
  23. My Daughter sent me a link for Missouri secession. I think it is time to move this decision back into the hands of the people again.
  24. Well opening weekend of firearms Deer season here in Missouri was a bust. Just like last year the temps. were in the 70's* with high winds. Tomorrow will be raining with temps; in the 40's*. My Daughter is bummed out. She still hasn't pulled the trigger on Bambi. I still haven't made a kill with my 35 Whelen, ( I know to much gun ) but this would make the build complete. Anyway we are heading out on Tuesday. Weather should be almost perfect. After 3 sucking days of weather the Deer should be moving and I can call the 35 complete. Ralph
