  1. that really sucks. if it is a real nice shooter you are looking for, i would get my money back and do some buisness with someone on this sight. you might end up paying a little more, but i am sure youll get a much better product. but thats just my opinoin. keep us updated on your turk/whelen build. brian

Thank Brian That is what I just did.

  2. Sarco sucks! I placed an order with Sarco for a m48 yugo v.g. to excelent condition, hand select and matcking bolt. With shipping the total came to $190. I placed this order on June 15th. My check cleared my account July 15th. As of this morning I called to check on the status of my order. " We have been sold out of the m48 for at least a month and a half." My order is placed in back order. I could wait, change my order to a m48a or get a refund. They are advertising items that they do not have, still listed on their web site. I my book this is just as misleading as what Mitchells does.

I know that there is little differance between the two m48's. This was going to be my "keeper/ shooter" Mauser so I wanted the better of the 2. The surplus market in the St. Louis area has poor quality and high prices. The whole point of a C&R license is to get better quality and price anyway. I have yet to deside what I will do.

Hey anyone out there has a m48 or k98 that they might want to part with. I would rather get a refund at this time and do business with a member of the form.

I felt I should be a good consumer and let others know of my disapointment and now distrust of this retailer.

    P. S. I ordered my 35 Whelen barrel from E R Shaw for my Turk build. They were upfront that would be at least 16 weeks turn around. So it is not a matter of time just poor service.

    Thank You for your time.

  3. The Mauser that I am building is a Turk also. I contacted E R Shaw for info on their barrels. They can do one in small ring threads just send them the caliber, lenght, rate of twist and money. The cost is $155 plus $20 shipping. Turn around time is only 16 weeks. I am sending off for a short chambered 35 Whelen in a few weeks.

  4. Just a quick update. I took the "sleve" off the front of the reciever. I was going to start lapping the bolt buuuuuttttt. The small ring tool threads will not screw in. Is this part of the issues with Turks? I think I will cut the threads and a short section off the old barrel and make my own. I am working on the finish sanding now. How smoth should I get the finish? I want to get the tool marks out but still keep it a mat finish.

  5. post-3785-1246190448_thumb.jpgJust another newbe with an old Mauser. I picked up this 1945 K. Kales Turk awhile back. Paid to much and barrel shot out at that. The reciever looked good no pitts or rust. I kind of wanted to build a custom anyway so now I had a reason to get started. I want to do as much of the work as I can. I ordered the basic tools from Brownells and Midway. The strip down wasn't a big deal except for the barrel. The Weller Barrel vise wouldn't grip, I don't have any rosin. I will get some for later builds. The old barrle was junk so an extra pipe wrench aginst the work bench did the trick.

I started out by removeing the charging hump. Didn't take as long as I thought it would, only about 1 1/2 hours. There is still a few small divets that I may take out, they may be covered by scope mounts. I will have to see how the rest of the build goes. My plans are to make a 35 Whelen if I can find a small ring barrel. I didn't realy understand that Turks are large rings with small theads until now. I will take the sleve off the front of the reciever next. I have ordered the bolt lapping tool and will polish the reciever ways after that. I am in no hurry to get it done. I would rather buid for quality not quanity. I will post more pics. as time goes on.

I also ordered a m48 from Sarco about 2 weeks agoe. I still want a shooter to play with.
