  1. Well I got it down to 3.25#. Nice and crisp, no overtravel. I'm tinkering with the loads to shrink the groups. I've got the barrel through the"break in" process with 185gr Rem. core locks. I have about 135 Nosler 180gr ballistic tips I want to use for hunting. I might try the Sierra 175gr pro-hunters when they get back in stock.
  2. No detailed welding isn't a skill I have. I know my limits. The 3 in Walnut were weleded by Clemson. The butter knife bolt handle is made by Don Marky. I shaped it after Clemson weleded it on. The 7x57 was welded by Tanglewood.
  3. Two Turks and a Yugo and my other Turk.
  4. I think Turks are perfect for a sporter build. I got started with a K Kales with a shot out barrel. I had Clemson rebarrel it to 35 Whalen. Then I found another one at a gun show for cheap. I I broke it up and ebayed everything but the bolt & receiver. I made enough off the parts to to have a 280 rem. fitted. My latest is the 7x57 I did a post on a little while back. They make a great base for a sporter build.
  5. Thanks Doc. the link helped. I'll start working on it tomorrow. Right now I'm grouping at 1" with the 7# pull. I think with it somewhere in the 3# range the group will shrink.
  6. I looked at the trigger thead for any info on how to. There is a topic there but it had info on Bold contact, however they are now defunct. I have an optima model on my 8x57. The pull is running at 7#. I what to adjust it to around 3#. Has any of you guys ever made an adjustment on a Bold trigger? There are 2 screws. The top one has yellow paint or thead sealent on it. I suspect this is the poundage adjustment. I think the lower screw is for overtravel. I don't want the mess with either blindly and hope I get it right. Thanks. Ralph
  7. I have the 7x57 reamer, go and field gauges. I'm finished with them. I need to get them returned. Doc. if you are taking over the co-op let me know were to send them and how much the sharping fee is. I'll send Rod the postage for sending them to me.
  8. I have to watch the OCL on my 280 rem and 35 Whalen. Their built on K Kakes Turks. They can hang up in the magazine if the case trim length or bullet isn't seated to desired depth.
  9. Very cool. I think they really lost this kind of quality in the 90s.
  10. Thanks Horsefly. Yes I removed the charging hump. It's a Turk action. I removed the handguard ring at the front of the receiver. I did the Wismer safety on the shroud also. All the work was done with a Dremal and files. I did a lot of measuring with caliper and a micromiter. The only thing I farmed out was having the bolt handle welded. It was done by Clemson several years ago. This has been in the works for about 5 years.
  11. I've got to load up some ammo and get to the range.
  12. Well it's finished. I've got to finish a short stock for my grandson to hunt with until he's ready for a full size rifle.
  13. I'm finishing up a 7x57 now. A 284 Win is 280 Rem light. Reloading components aren't that very available either.
  14. Ok so I've been doing some looking and studying of options. I can't really do another 30-06, I already have plenty. While I think a 9.3x62, 6.5 Rem. Mag or 264 Win Mag would be cool. Reloading components will be a pain and expensive to get. The only modern caliber I don't have is the 270 Win. I have a 25-06, 6.5 Creedmore & 280 Rem. so I never needed a 270. However this is my last receiver and I don't know how long it will take to get completed. I might as well make it something I don't really have a rush to get. Who knows I might actually like this round when I get it done. I'm going to finish the 7x57 on the bench and then look for a 270 barrel.
  15. Well Karl, I'll quote Charlton Heston at the NRA convention in the 1980s. He held a muzzleloader that was presented to him above his head and proclaimed " from my cold dead hands". That's the only way they'll get mine or infring on my freedoms. Just my $.02 Ralph
  16. I can't believe the prices that are bring asked for primers and powder on GB. A Yugo M48A nonmatching in good condition just sold for $805. That's nuts. I've given thoughts into selling some of my milsurplus and score some quick cash. Last week I got lucky on GB. I bought 100 rounds of new 7x57 brass and 200 Hornady 139 grain Interlocks for $96 before things went nuts.

    About time

It's funny to watch the swamp monsters sh*t their pants and run for cover. They think the band of deplorables will just stand by and take a screwing. This could have been a real blood bath if it was a antifa style assault.
  18. This is their way of back peddling. They know about it,they thought it was a funny and just part of the same old, same old. This is just the swamp monsters back in charge.
  19. I only had a Browning A-bolt when I planned to build it. I've since got an 1903a3, 1917 Eddystone, M-1 Garand, and a Remington 740. I fell into a great deal on another ANIB A-bolt a few years ago. Yesterday my uncle gave me his ANIB pre64 model 70 and a Remington 760 also ANIB. So I think I have the 30-06 covered pretty well. I'm not a horder of 06's but it's worked out that way.
  20. For several years now I've had the parts to build a 30-06. I have a really nice BZN (Styer)1941 receiver. It's drilled and tapped and it's had the stripper clip hump removed. I had the bolt handle welded up by Tanglewood. I have all the other parts needed except for a stock including a brand new 30-06 Green Mountain barrel. The problem I now have is I own 8 other 30-06s before I would even start this build. I don't have a shortage of other bolt actions ranging from 243 all the way up to 35 Whalen. So should I just go ahead and sell off 30-06 barrel and look for something else. The 7x57 I have on the bench now is almost finished just doing the checkering on the stock. The only area I could add a caliber in would be above the 35 Whalen size. And I don't know if I want to get deep into a 9.3x 62 or something along those lines. Any ideas guys?
  21. I think when we are 6 months in to President Harris adminstration the real craziness will begin. It will take her that long to get get all the executive order in place.

    funny money

I think it's a crime to be giving aid to other countries in a "Covid" relief bill. Based on the condition of our economy I say "F" them. While we're at it they should be paying back what we have given them as aid in the past. This country need to stop "buying" our friends. Thier like a stray cat. If you give it food today, it will be back tomorrow for another free meal. We have enough stray cats in this country wanting free every thing. But I say "F" them also. This country needs to stop renting it's life style and pay as we go. I have always worked for what we have. I don't spend money I don't have. The credit cards are for emergencys. This country needs to get back to that frame of mind. Just my $.02.
  23. I hope it doesn't either. I have plenty of everything except pistol projectiles. I have lead for range use but very little jacketed.
  24. I always felt that the oath of service summed it up perfectly. "To support and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign or domestic". I believe that there isn't any question, we have domestic enemies at this time. Ralph
