  1. Ammo shortage may effect Deer season. The shelves are bare and it looks like there is very little in the pipeline Panic is setting in. The guys at work that know I reload have asked me for some help. No problem, I have plenty of components on hand. I cranked out 40 rounds of 30-30 & 243 for them. I told one guy no, he's a real a-hole. He asked if I could load some 308's. I told him "sorry I don't load for 308". That was a lie. I load for it and have plenty components. This guy is such a jerk I wouldn't do anything for him. I hope he finds some but at a huge markup and then doesn't see anything to take a shot at.
  2. I mostly shoot at a Missouri Dept of Conversation range. You can keep your own brass and other shooter can give you theirs. The people who don't want their brass sweep them up and put them in provided 5gal. buckets. This is then the"property" of the MDC I keep a cloth bag in my range bag. I dig out all I can Before they tell me to stop. There are a few old timers there that know me. They usually don't bother. I come home with over a 100 pieces more than I whent with. I don't even care what caliber, I just grab handfuls. I'll hang on to the orphans just in case I buy a gun that will take it later.
  3. I know it happens, but I find it strange that ranges wouldn't allow reloads. Is it because they want to sell customers factory ammo at an inflated price?
  4. The closest I've come is I used a 32 Winchester Special brass to load a 30-30 Winchester round. I own 1 @32 and 4 of the 30-30s. Without thinng the neck. It chambered fine but kicked like mule when fired. The neck had no room to expand. On the flip side I use 30-30 for 32. They are the same case just a different bullet diameter. I write"32"on the case head with a sharpie. I'm very cautious when grabbing ammo.
  5. I have a buddy at work that was just delayed also. The same reason, call valume. He got a call a few hours after leaving the shop that he was approved. A few dealers I know at the Gun shows say the delays are worst on weekends. One in 5 are delayed and they have one person who does nothing but but stay on the phone with the FBI background check. Missouri is a gun owners and hunters paradise. If you can pass the background check you can own and carry. Great hunting and fishing. We really have the perfect state. All we need to do is give St. Louis to Illinois and Kansas City to Kansas and our murder rate would be almost zero.
  6. In retrospect, I should have told him the barrel was shot out and offer him 50% of it's value. Telling him I would have to rebarrel it. I could have taken it to the next gun show and made a profit. But that's not who I am.
  7. I had a conversation with an "expert" while at the range today. He claimed that he has shot his Rem. 700 in 30-06 so much that the head space was in the no go stage. I didn't call B.S. right off, so I asked a few questions. Q. How many rounds have you fired through it? A. Around 3,000. Q. Factory or reloads? A. Only factory. "I wouldn't risk damage with reloads." Q. What makes you think the head space has changed? A. "It's not as accurate as it used to be" I looked at the fired brass. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. I looked it over and the trigger guard wiggle. I asked if he ever removed it from the stock. He said he hadn't. I told him that I thought the action screws weren't tight. I got out tools and sure enough I turned each about turned 2 full turns. He fired it again and miracle it shoot it's former 1 3/4" group again. He was amazed at the.55" my Turk in 280 Rem shot. Of course I have those dangerous reloads.
  8. Gun show report. Prices were up by 10-15%, supply of ammo fair. Several dealers didn't even come. As there were a few empty tables. A few of the dealers I know said the July show was crazy. The one dealer sold 400+ at that show. The crowd was small for noon on Saturday. I did flip a Marlin in 44 Magnum I had. I bought that 444 this past spring. The 44 mag. didn't have a place any more. I got $600 for it without a scope or sling.
  9. My son and I were Bass Pro & Academy on Sunday. We joked that I have more handguns in my safe than they had in their display cases. They were wiped out on ammo also. It's a sellers market now. If you have something you want to sell nows the time to move it. I'm going to my areas largest gun show Saturday. I've got a few things that don't get shot much. I'm going to try and make a windfall on them. I give a report on my success after.

    Masks

I'm not thrilled about it either. Masks have been mandatory at work for more than 3 months now. We don't allow any outside vendors or service people in the plant. All truck drivers are required to be masks when entering the shipping lobby. We just had our first recorded infection last week. The masks may or may not work. I think this will run it's course just in time for the next flu season.
  11. Sorry Ken, no luck at Graff's.
  12. I'm going to Graff's this weekend. I'll to see if they have a set.
  13. I picked up a new Adams & Barrnet off eBay about 6 or 8 years ago. I knew I would do this build someday. Doc. you can order one from ER Shaw to any spec you desire. Their cost isn't too outrageous.
  14. I'm building a 7x57 on a Turk. I have 2 stocks on hand. One I cut to short a few years ago. The other is LOP for me. The short one will be for my Grandson to use when he is older. I can develop a reduced power load with the full length stock. I'll then switch to the to the shorty and set up a scope for his eye relief. I can drop it into the the full length one later as needed.
  15. I need to check out the 7x57 reamer and gauges from the co-op I sent Tanglewood a PM about 10 days ago. I read in another thead he was having computer issues. I figured I would just start a new topic in case he isn't getting PMs. Rod please check your messages. Thanks Ralph
  16. I have a lot of powder, primers and brass. I'm don't have as much projectiles as I would like. I actually just got done expanding my the reloading room.
  17. I keep my Glock 20 and 4 mags in the truck lately.
  18. Lots of looting under the guise of protesting. They tried to burn the Ferguson PD the other night. A redhead white antifa guy was caught on camera by the news crews smashing in the windows. He was from a town 50 miles away. He was identified by posting on social media. What a genius. 4 cops were shot last night, all will recover. The owner of a historic pawn shop was murdered trying to keep the looters out. He was black, I guess his black life didn't matter to the thugs. I'll keep my Glocks handy. Keep safe guys
  19. Thanks for taking all the St.L idiots off our hands for the summer.
  20. That's what Sagorny Weaver thought and then that thing popped out of that guy's chest.
  21. I'm still working but we've had some layoffs. A machine operator on layoff called me and said he needed to raise some cash to pay bills. We talked guns and hunting. He had a Marlin 1895 in 444 Marlin. We talked about how expensive ammo was for it and he never really shot it much He offered it to me for $350. He set the price and it was reasonable. It's in almost new condition. He knew I reloaded so I could afford to shoot it. I had a nice vintage 4x Redfield scope and base & rings already. Reloading components are ordered and on the way. Now I just need to find the time to develop some loads for it. Ralph
  22. I'm with you there. To much school yard games and lies. If I want "friends" I'll make them out of an old sock and stick on googly eyes.
  23. I was at Farm and Home on Sunday. Everyone (but me) in line had ammo, bottle water and all kinds of "bug out" supplies. We have enough in the pantry and freezer for a month or two. My son was over Saturday. I sent him home with my S&W model 28, and 200 rounds 357 & 45 acp for his Springfield armory XD. A few guys at work know I reload. I've been asked if I could sell some if things get bad.
